[GIF] TOS Lotus Flower

Played with this one today, basically trying to reconcile the most popular 'Kobyashi Maru' that would have been used with James Kirk with what has been mentioned since. Even if you assume that they updated the ship by the time of TWOK, it's definately not going to be a 'refit-modern' fuel carrier with that class three tag stuck on it.

This takes the FASA design and tweaks it with the TAS frieghter designs somewhat. I'm pretty happy with this one, but I can't make sense of the 'wings'. I kept them, but they seem out of place.

The lines were completely redone, of course, with only the basic overall shape kept. The 'cargo areas' are from the Indepedence and Sherman, with the 'bridge hull' from the Independence.

As to the wings, perhaps they are in some manner related to landing? *shrug*

I considered that, but the ship doesn't look aero-friendly. I could assume that they're used for docking and fueling, though, which would make some sense. A 'fuel docking system' in each wing would allow loading and unloading through the hull pretty easily.

Kinda curious as to what the heck Neutronic Fuel is anyway? Heavy anti-hydrogen? Would make sense, I suppose. Send one of these ships out in a nebula, fill it up, and it's the basic 'stockpile' for a ships' drive system.. (which is then somewhat refreshed with the scoops..)

Trying to figure this ship out before I stat it...

*chuckle* A number of the FASA freighters were anything but Aero-friendly but they could still land. It comes down to how much you allow advanced tech to compensate for the fact that such designs should drop like a brick.

Well, considering the shuttlecraft... ;)

In this case, though, I was more referring to the modular components and how likely they would be to 'break up' during at atmospheric trip. Of course, for this ships' purposes, it really doesn't need to land, so I probably won't give it that ability.

Not quite sure with the Huron and Indepedence....

Well what a ship ends up having designed into it depends on the mission requirements that prompted the ship to be designed in the first place.

Well, in the case of these three ships, we have their functions defined. The question is wether these cargo ships rely more on transporter technology for their cargo or they expect heavy shuttle use, landings, etc...

Perhaps the 'wings' actually are [art of the scoop array for funneling the hydrogen into the tanks?

The wing tips could be use as docking claps for cargo bays .
