MISSION
The ghubDaQ (Firstborn Son) Class is a complete rebuild and update of the venerable ‘D-4’ Heavy Destroyer that has served the empire for the better part of two centuries. It’s current mission profile includes ‘picket’ duty & small fleet command, as well as reconnaissance, scouting and offensive deep range strike missions. Much like the bI’rel , chaDIch, and valQUIS classes, the ship is capable of slipping deep into enemy territory and delivering punishing salvos into enemy installations before defenses can be raised.
FEATURES
The ghubDaQ’s interior design and system have received a complete redesign and redesignation for the ships new purpose, that of a light command craft used to coorodinate strikes by small fast attack vessels as well as picket vessel and commerce raider.
The chevwI' tlhoy' (Wall of the Empire) design group went to work on the design at roughly the same time it worked on the valQUIS and the chaDIch and certain elements began to creep into the design from the rest of the ‘Echo’ series.
First and foremost, the chevwI' tlhoy' the out the older KE-14E Graf Units and warp power core for a newly designed KE-20E designed specifically for the E-4. KI-23 I.M.Pulse Drives were installed, giving the class a nearly 50% boost at sublight speeds, as well as upgraded plasma fusion thrusters to allow the ship to maneuver and a significantly improved ratio, as well as compensating for the newer, higher sublight velocities.
Secondly, a completely new shield and ablative armor grid was created for the vessel, giving the ship protection comparable to many modern heavy cruisers, a item of significant popularity with crews and crew commanders, who had long bemoaned inadequate shields and armor for their vessels.
One the base hull was established, considerable debate as to the ships weapons package was debated among the chevwI' tlhoy'. Some favored upgrading the vessel with the new KPD-series Rapid Fire Pulse Disruptor used on smaller vessels in the Echo program. Others preferred the idea of the newly developed KSWD-Series Spiral Wave Disruptor. Either package combined with the newer KP-6 series of Photon Torpedo launcher would prove a devastating combination. One of the junior designers then suggested making a run of vessels carrying one set of weapons, with a second carrying the other, just to keep the enemy guessing. Realizing the utility of the idea, two separate sets of plans were made and the A and B class of the vessel were designed.
To further enhance survivability of the vessel, particular attention to emissions control was paid during it’s design and the class is one of the hardest in space to spot, even with it’s cloaking device off. Special fittings for the disruptors and torpedo bays, as well as all energy emitting sections was given special attention, along with multiple back up systems to prevent the ship from losing power. To make the ships more attractive, the new femto-second power-shunt was added to the design, making the ship an unholy terror with enemy crews as the ships appeared to fire and raise shields before decloaking.
BACKGROUND
While deployed before the E-7 “Bringer of Devastation” class, the ship was not really considered noteworthy until the ‘Pleiades Turkey Shoot’ in mid 2374, when the several E-4’s and other H’joQ vessels opening salvos cut a Cardassian/Dominion fleet to ribbons using a Klingon version of the Spiral Wave Disruptor and others opened fire with what appeared to be pulse disruptors. As the enemy fleet was not expecting such weapons, the were obliterated in short order, leaving a very large question mark in Dominion eyes as to what exactly had happened, but achieving a much needed moral boost for the Allies.
The vessel has received roars of approval from the Klingon High Command and many smaller houses are rushing to fill orders for the new version of an old standby vessel. The H’joQ’s further experimentation to make a cloakable ‘pocket’ torpedo cruiser with the C&D variants has met with mixed reviews from crews, as the ship is fairly expensive due to it’s monotanium hull and is somewhat cramped, even by Klingon standards. The complaints are usually offset by the utterly devastating salvos the ship’s can bring to bear and the newer vessels became an integral part of assaults against Dominion facilities and super capital ships.
