George Takei, Star Trek's Hikaru Sulu, has publicly admitted his homosexuality.
Personally, I think that anyone who takes such a public stand on such a public matter, in the hopes that it will help to make the world a better place, is a person who deserves a great deal of respect.

When I met the man on a the set of a show called "Space Cases" that was shot in Montreal, I knew right away. I seem to have excellent Gaydar... but the funny ting is... unlike some other Hollywood guys I know are gay and have been outed by everyone possible... I never had the desire, and apparently anyone else who met Mr. Takei (it isn't that hard to tell he is homosexual) never did either, to tell people he was gay.
I think is just such a class act and all around nice guy.
Welcome out Mr. Takei, I will always treasure my meeting you and the generosity of time and respect you have shown so many fans over the years.

It shouldn't matter what his sexual preference is. He is still the same person, with additional information added to his publically known knowledge.
Congradulations to him.
But should this really be a big thing? If we're all so accepting and PC, shouldn't we not have to have these great big news stories of someone being a non-heterosexual? Shouldn't we all go, oh, that's nice, then continue on with our life, and continue to treat him like we have been. As a just another individual.
It's not like he's announcing that he's a militant homosexual that seeks to convert all others to follow his life style. To quote Foamy: "Oh, Come on!"
