Enterpise...I'm looking forward to it

I just DLd the promo clip and I have to say I am excited about this. I also like the new ship and hope this series will do what Voyager failed to do, make some good TV http://www.trekrpg.net/Board/ubb/smile.gif

As for continuity, Star Trek has never had a really strong on all along, I mean look at the mistakes between the episodes in TOS? Or how about the dicrepencies in the Klingons?

I figure they are making an effort here and lets hope it revitalizes the whole thing for us.

TOS is my favorite of the shows (probably followed closely by DS9), and you are correct - TOS on its own is riddled with errors. When does it take place? How big is the Federation? What government does Enterprise represent - they settled on the Federation, but they had their UESPA phase. And the Prime Directive was absent, if I recall correctly, till season two.

Season one is usually the "feeling out" phase, so they'll risk making mistakes just to see what appeals to the audience But by the time Season two rolls on, some of the things that are acceptable from Season one remains and the rest are discarded or hopefully ignored.

So I can forgive the part about the UESPA phrase utter once. I probably would not forgive if they re-use it during Season three when "Federation" and "Starfleet" are used more than once.

But that was another time. Today's audience are much more attentive and sophisticated, especially longtime followers of the Trek series. Attentive because they're used to the common details and facts that it would take a very plausible explanation as to why you would violate a common fact in Trek lore. Sophisticated because we do not want to see the same old thing over and over again, so the need for fresh stories are in great demand. Plus, the level of wardrobe, costume and makeup as well as special effects has to be updated with the time. You can't use 1960's period of special effects to impress 2000's audience who are used to CG effects.

I agree with you with regard to the difference in standards between now and then. It wasn't so much a suggestion that "Enterprise" should ignore continuity, but more a note that the birth of Star Trek is riddled with continuity errors, despite it often being raised on a pedestal as perfection. http://www.trekrpg.net/Board/ubb/smile.gif (However, one sinister note - the two biggest continuity headaches for "Enterprise" were established in season 1 of TOS - the dating of the Eugenics Wars and the particulars of the Earth-Romulan Wars).

I am suprised to read such positive words about Enterprise - after al there seem to be some Star Trek fans you want to gve the new series a chance.
Well I dowloaded the promo, too and I think its amazing. The uniforms look great and there are many familiar things, e.g. the departmental colours. and all the critisizing people should remember that TOS was from the 60ies and now we are 40 years later!!!! Its another time and Enterprise would certainly be no success if they used the same special effects and design like in that show - times have changed.
I was interested in the series when I first heard that it will be set in the past, cause it would be something new. Exploration is at its beginning - very exciting.
I am really looking forward the day, when this first starship, named Enterprise will boldly go where no man has gone before.

The more and more I see and hear about this show, the more I look forward to it! It's been a long time for me since I was hyped to see a new TV series. If they carry the feel of the promo on into the show, this is going to be REAL good. They definitely have a shot at it being a hit, and having a fan base who likes it.

Allow me to join you my fellow outcasts in saying that I too, lok forward to the show, and hope it will be good. I really look forward to seaon two, when all the stuff starts falling into place.

I agree completly and I have been saying the same thing for months! I do not think canon will be thrown out the window but I think it will GENERALLY be followed. The Klingons will look the way they they were suposed to look in the first place and would have if not for cost. I think they may violate canon again if they cover the Romulan-Earth War. I think they will SEE each other. But this will only make it better. I think Enterprise will be great. And everyone should at least give it a chance.

Oh my god people are looking forward to this series?...man I think I'm gonna halfta kill somone now!!!....you guys are serious? this show defies everything that is Startrek! this goes to show whom real trekies are...and people whom are non-continuity statrek trekies!... whats next? Mr.Rodgers Captain of the USS LOVEBOAT?...(grumble grumble)..this is disgusting!

Karga, you're like kidding right? (Honest, question - could be viewed as a sarcastic post or an honest opinion that all looking forward to the series have probably been brainwashed.)

In all honesty I respect the views of those who aren't looking forward to the show or are pessimistic.

I'm looking forward to it with the full realization that it could very well stink. But I don't want it to. Berman and Braga? Yeah, they say a lot of stupid stuff in interviews which alienates a lot of fans. But Berman is largely responsible for the improvements made to TNG and Braga wrote some of my favorite (and, admittedly, least favorite), episodes of TNG.
