Paramount has plans to beef up its TV operations

Seeking to quell persistent Wall Street rumors that CBS would use some of its cash in a mega-deal for Lionsgate or another studio, Reynolds reassured an aud of financial pros at the Credit Suisse First Boston media confab that no such deal is in the works and that the company would continue to return cash to shareholders.
Alright, what was the point in the Viacom/CBS split to begin with then anyway? It would have made sense for Paramount TV units to sat with Viacom and for CBS to have bought DreamWorks. Instead the split up the components of Paramount between them and leave us guessing as who has the copyrights to Star Trek. We also get the chunky name of CBS Paramount Television for the appearent copyright holder to Star Trek or atleast to the TV shows.
