Is there any errata for teh LUGTrek books?
I was unable to find any on the old TrekRPG website.
I've been going over the CharGen example of Lt. Suvok in the TNG Core Book (pp. 74-77) and noticed that while the Security Overlay has Security (Security Systems) at 2 (3) (with an additional specialization level added later during the cadet cruise), which would make it (I think?) 2 (4), the final example has him with this skill at 1 (3). Could someone confirm me being right here?
Thanks
DC
On Edit: Having reaquainted myself with the LUG rules, I am really starting to prefer them over the CODA rules :)
Character Generation Example Lug / Icon
You are correct, there were errors in the original books, especially the TNG book, both in in-line text, and charts, and templates.
Going by the examples, I suggest the following for Danny / "Suvok" -
Take the P. 63 template:
Adding in p. 68 (beware, the text examples on p. 68 are incorrect):
SECURITY OVERLAY (TNG) Cost: 54 DP
Energy Weapon (Phaser) 2 (3)
Security (Security Systems) 2(3)
Shipboard Systems (Tactical) 2 (3)
Systems Engineering (Security) 1 (2)
Unarmed Combat (Starfleet Martial Arts) 2 (3)
Athletics (choose Specialization) 1 (2)
Computer (choose Specialization) 1 (2)
Dodge 1
History (Federation) 1 (2)
Language
Federation Standard 1
Law (Starfleet Regulations) 1 (2)
Personal Equipment (choose Specialization) 1 (2)
Planetside Survival (choose Specialization) 1 (2)
Vehicle Operations (Shuttlecraft) 1 (2)
We thus get (before skill combinations):
Attributes
Fitness 2 [6]
Strength +1
Coordination 2 [5]
Intellect 2 [6]
Logic +1
Presence 2 [5]
Empathy -1
Psi 1 [6]
Range -1

Athletics (Running) 1 (2)

Note that History is now doubled /combined and Unarmed combat is doubled/combined. The chart that says: What If I get the Same Skill twice is full of bugs, in most every version, I believe, but I have not looked closely at DS9. Clip it out, and burn it.
When you get a skill, it's worth 3 DP. A Specialization is worth 1. Period.
Be careful in that you do not take a skill assigned with a new spec on top of an old one. Only the first skill level gets the specialization for free. Later levels, you must balance out the 3 DP added, in whatever way makes the most sense for the character. This is far and away the largest source of headache for LUG Generation. Once you jump that hurdle, it's basically just simple math.
BOLDLY, WE GO!
The Award of History (Federation) 1 (2) is really only an award of 3 DP, since Suvok already has a level of History (Vulcan) 1 (2). Only the first spec (Vulcan) is free, not the second (Federation). So it really should say something like "Spend 3 DP on history, concentrating on Federation History." C'est la vie.
Thus, resolve it as:
History (Vulcan) 2 (3)
[Assuming Vulcan history as a base, with some fed knowledge added in] OR
History (Vulcan) 1 (2)
(Federation) (4)
[Assuming It was a Federation Intensive course] OR
History (Federation) 2 (3) [Assuming lots of Federation knowledge, now fresh in his mind, but keeping the old level of 2, but some gaps were filled in, in his studies] Personally, I'd use the last one.
Similarly, Unarmed Combat is adding 6 DP to Starfleet Martial Arts:
Unarmed Combat (Starfleet Martial Arts) 2 (3)
Unarmed Combat (Nerve Pinch) 2 (3)
Becomes:
Unarmed Combat (Starfleet Martial Arts) 4 (5) OR
Unarmed Combat (Starfleet Martial Arts) 3 (4)
(Nerve Pinch) (6)
Except that this last example would violate the rule of no skills higher than 5 (Thus I would not allow that example for a new PC) OR
Unarmed Combat (Nerve Pinch) 4 (5) (My personal Recommendation, to keep the vulcan flavor)
Thus, after the Vulcan Template + Security overlay :
Attributes
Fitness 2 [6]
Strength +1
Coordination 2 [5]
Intellect 2 [6]
Logic +1
Presence 2 [5]
Empathy -1
Psi 1 [6]
Range -1

Athletics (Running) 1 (2)
Computer (Data Alteration/Hacking) 1 (2)
Culture (Vulcan) 2 (3)

Law (Starfleet Regulations) 1 (2)
Mind Meld 2
Personal Equipment (Tricorder) 1 (2)
Planetside Survival (Forest) 1 (2)
Security (Security Systems) 2(3)
Science, Space Science (Subspace Field Dynamics) 2 (3)
Shipboard Systems (Tactical) 2 (3)
Systems Engineering (Security) 1 (2)
Unarmed Combat (Nerve Pinch) 4 (5)
Vehicle Operations (Shuttlecraft) 1 (2)
World Knowledge (Vulcan) 1 (2)

Early life example, P. 75
Famous Parents: One Additional Intellect Skill at 1 (2), Patron (Your Parents) (+2), Obligation (-1) OR Rival (-1) (Connected to your Parent's Work), +2 Renown
The book text is wrong. The intellect skill is worth 3 DP. Adding only 1 spec of (Research) is robbing the character of 2 DP points. I also am pretty certain that Renown points in Character gen are worth 2 renown per dev. pt. I think this was clarified in TNG Player's Guide. Other referees may disagree. But it sure makes it easier to earn renown in chargen, to try and approach those higher ranks.
Again, your milage may vary. I feel it's worth 2 Renown = 1 DP.
Anyway....
Selecting Computer as the intellect skill:
Computer (Data Alteration/Hacking) 1 (2)
Computer (Research) 1 (2)
Should Equal:
Computer (Data Alteration/Hacking) 2 (3)
OR
Computer (Research) 2 (3)
OR
Computer (Research) 1 (2)
(Data Alteration/Hacking) (4)
Since the research was done as a child and the other stuff is fresh training. Or the converse, depending on what flavor you want.
Since he's a security specialist, I'd go with the last example in this case, but it might make him too much of a narrow focus. It all, again, depends on what flavor you want. I leave it up to the generating player as long as no starting skill goes over 4 or (5) for specializations of skills.
Thus Race + Early life + Skills Overlay All combined:
Attributes
Fitness 2 [6]
Strength +1
Coordination 2 [5]
Intellect 2 [6]
Logic +1
Presence 2 [5]
Empathy -1
Psi 1 [6]

Academy Life / Electives (Advanced Tactics):
The chart on p. 72 is wrong/not clear. (This is before 0-level skills were invented for LUG with the TNG Player's Guide..a different book.)
The text on p. 75 is wrong, in that it references Planetary Support as the main skill, and the chart references Tactics as the same skill. Either way, it exceeds 8 DP, unless you read it very carefully, and know how to work it, without messing up the points. It is not two skills at 1 (2) Added, it is one skill at 1 (2) (2).
I suggest replacing the chart entry as follows:
Advanced Tactical School: Administration (Logistics) 1 (2), Starship Tactics (choose a threat race) 1 (2) AND (Planetary Support Tactics) (2) , Bold (+1)
(Which is what the text implies, but is not exactly clear on.)
Thus, in addition, including the +1 Spec for his cadet cruise (Security), we have:
Sivok:
Attributes
Fitness 2 [6]

Next Stage:
Surprise, the text on p. 76 is wrong. It offers one point to law skill, or 1 pt. to spec.
It will in fact be either one point to law skill or 3 points to spec (if you go that way with it) Otherwise the PC is losing points:
Law (Starfleet Regulations) 1 (2) +Law (Starfleet Regulations) 1 (2) =
Law (Starfleet Regulations) 2 (3) OR
Law (Starfleet Regulations) 1 (5)
Depending on how much of a specialist he is.
I would choose the Former, unless he's a real hard case for quoting regs chapter and verse like Spock was. YMMV.
Moving on, Adding in his First Tour:
Starfleet Command: Administration (Starfleet) 1(2), Law (Starfleet Regulations) 1(2), Strategic Operations (Fleet Operations) 1 (2), Contact +1, OPTIONAL: Rival AND Promotion (balance the points)
And Second Tour:
Free Spent Points (+1 Fitness, Rank LT)
We have the complete Character:
(though I am off by a point, somewhere, as it seems the renown is not being paid for, by the time I get to the end.)
But this is close enough...

Should be:
128 DP The basic TOS/TNG Character, with 1 Tour + Additional Tour = 132 DP
And that, my friend, is **Roughly** how it is done. I see somehow I am off by a point in my claculations, because of the +1 DP for the renown (or somewhere else) As the above totals 133 DP. I am going out to dinner with my wife. I'll check back later on, and recheck it. But I think that's a pretty comprehensive example of how to work it.
I am working on a book on how to do it "The Starfleet Character Compendium" out in about a week, and software to do it, Out in about a month.
I hope I answered your question.

Other Suggested Erratta (since I am not a designer, but a player, like the rest of us):
Starfleet Academy Handbook Notes:
The Foci of Strategist and Survivor were incorrectly listed as Aspects in the table on P. 96, but listed correctly in the follow-on text.
Star Trek: The Next Generation Core Book Notes:
The 125 DP point dilemma
TNG Starfleet Characters with one tour are listed as being generated with 125 points (also in other books).
Yet the DP breakdown is (or it is my understanding “Should Be”) as follows:
Species Template 50 DP
Early Life History: 5 DP
Professional Overlay: 54 DP
Academy Life 8 DP
Basic Cadet Cruise 1 DP Duration: 1 Year
First Tour 10 DP All Tours Last 2-7 Years (D6+1)
TOTAL 128 DP
The basic TOS/TNG Character, with 1 Tour = 128 DP.
I have been told that the basic character with the optional 4 pt. cadet cruise (From TNG Player's Guide) is 128 DP, but that is not correct, and the math proves this out.
Thus, I suggest the basic point total be amended to reflect 128 points, not 125, as listed in the LUG books.
Using the Expanded Cadet Cruise Option from the TNG Player's Guide will make this 131 DP.
Plus, Using the optional Academy Boxed Set rules would add another optional 5 DP.
And Additional Tours add 5 DP per additional tour after the first.
