But seriously has ever someone established when the IDF was invented?

I guess it depends on the nature of the 'field.' Admittedly, I've tended to envision warp drive as a form of Alcubierre drive; I don't remember how the tech manuals explain it.

Now that you say something your likely right. The IDF would not be invented just yet. I think that the Phoenix in First Contact eased into warp building speed up slowly before going warp speed.
