world regions
I live in California and I have recent ancestors from Norway, Switzerland, Denmark, and Sweden and most of my American ancestors lived in the South. When I was a kid and my father was in the United States Air Force, I spent time in Spain, Texas, and New Mexico. I'm interested in learning more about the European countries my ancestors came from from people here who live there. I do not believe in racial superiority, in fact we Norwegians are known for making fun of our own kind. If anyone else wants to ask the same kind of thing, feel free to do so on this thread.

Well, my ancestors are, according to my mother, who is very VERY into genealogical research and family trees:
Scots
German
Irish
English
Welsh
Polish
and
Iroquois.
I know the most about the Scots side. I'm apparently descended from a man who came over in 1715, after being on the wrong side of a rebellion up north. According to family legend, We are descended from Farquhar MacRae, who was grandson of MacDuff. (Yes, MacDuff as in the guy who iced MacBeth.)
As for the others, I can only quote from a small scrap of paper called "The Four Races of the British Isles" :
We Scots -- we keep the Sabbath, and anything else we can lay our hands on.
The Irish -- who don't know what they want but they're willing to fight for it anyway.
The Welsh -- they pray on their knees on Sunday and on their neighbors the rest of the week.
And the English -- who say they are a self-made nation, thereby absolving God of the horrible responsibility.

My heritage is mostly English and German. Both migrated to the US in the mid-19th century.

Well, I have some Scottish ancestry, some Jewish ancestry, but mainly Australian ancestry.

25% German
The Irish side of my family left Ireland during the Potato Famine. Details of what they did there are kinda hazy but I have a suspicion that it dealt with highway robbery and the theft of horses.
When we got to America we branched out into smuggling and union enforcement. Somehow after WWII we became an odd assortment of engineers and military officers. Go figure...
The German side of my family, however, set up a legitimate business in game manufacturing. In fact, if you have any wooden games (especially chess boards) look for the name "Dreuke" stamped on it.

My Mother's ancestors are from Glasgow and my Father's from London. But all that really means is that I'm able to drink all my friends under the table and still manage to be snooty while doing it. http://www.trekrpg.net/Board/ubb/biggrin.gif

Seriously, though, My dad is not only full-blooded Irish (from two or three generations back, depending on the side of the family), but also fits the description I read once somewhere of what the first settlers of Ireland were supposed to look like. My family (suprisingly, considering where we live) has never really been into geneology, though one of my dad's aunt's got as far back as the 1700's and then never talked about her research ever again. (He always assumed she had found horse-thieves or something...) roughly 75% British, dating back in the states to 1688, when being a Quaker and being a freind of Cromwells in Britian was not the way to win other friends in Britian. (Too many Irish, English, Scots-Irish, Walsh and Scotish ancesters to get more specific)
And 25% Dutch/German this side dates back to the mid-19th century along the border of the two countries so we really don't know for sure

Living in Sweden myself. Don't know for how many generations back, but 1/8 of me is finish. Not that it makes me an expert on the Scandinavian countries... But I do have almost 30 years first hand experience in living here. http://www.trekrpg.net/Board/ubb/biggrin.gif
