Having fun with the Hamilton-class
I was sitting in the waiting room of the auto dealer the other day and looking at the difernt versions of the 2010 Mustang's and it dawned on me that the similar changes to the Hamilton-class that I had drew up that prevous evening could be altered to many difernt versions. So here is the template version and the rest to follow.
The only version I did not cover was that of the cargo vessel. The Hamilton stood up as so many ships in all the different designs.

Decription and Notes
Fleet data: This is a design in starships is versatile and retrofitable in the design. An interchangeable designed to be fitted better to each situation in the need of Starfleets needs of service.
The Hamilton class starships came out of the Galaxy class design project to derive a versatile design that can be modified into multiple versions of the standard starship. Each vessel can be modified to fit the needs of the Federation as it was needed. The first starship off the construction lines the standard cruiser version of the starship USS Hamilton. Equally well armed and defendable as an Ambassador class starship yet is far more versatile than the Ambassador class.
A Few science vessels of the Hamilton class were constructed. With a specific starship designation as a long term science studies vessel by Starfleet. Of these few vessels the Science Vessels one were lost in the service of the Federation Science Counsol when an imploding nebula crushed the vessel in to nothing.
Within the decade, the need of another version of a similar type vessel lighter armed version was produced as a patrol vessel along the neutral zones and hostile star systems. During the early shadowy days of the pre Dominion War time, these vessels were called into service and their weapons were updated. Much of the assigned duties were basic escort duty and patrol dutys before the Dominion War and then as a frontline combat vessel in many of the confrontations with the dominion.
The need of a fast deliver starship that could run Ambassadors across the Federation to meetings with opposing governments with a minimal confrontational design and the threat level but able to defend and fleet the area quickly. Only a few starships are constructed to these designs and were retrofitted with heavier weapons during the Dominion war retaining the faster warp engines for hit and run attacks. These vessels tended to be highly effective in their rolls to attack.
Even before the Dominion War began all the signs were pointing to war, the construction of the Heavy Cruiser starships were began in secret with Ablative armor and heavier shields to the starship. Many of these Hamilton class starships survived the Dominion war until the arrival of the Breen. The Hamilton class appeared to be just as vulnerable to the Breen Energy damping weapon that turned the tides of the war briefly. Yet the Klingon engine modification seamed to be far greater efficiently effective on the Hamilton class than other ships.
