K’tari-class Bird-of-Prey
The B’rel-class Bird-of-Prey is the single most definitive starship design of the Klingon Defense Forces. Originally entering service in 2282, the B’rel design went through many upgrades over the years, becoming one of the most flexible destroyer-type vessels in the known galaxy, and remained in continuous production until 2378. Unfortunately, by the time of the Dominion War, the B’rel’s age started to show through its massive losses to the Jem’Hadar, Cardassian, and Breen forces. Klingon High Command realized that it was time for a replacement class that took advantage of the latest technologies and could effectively stand against the likes of Starfleet’s Defiant-class destroyer or the Jem’Hadar attack fighter.

The result was the K’tari Bird-of-Prey: a warship with a clear relation to its venerable predecessor, but also exhibiting a quantum leap in capability. Among its enhancements are an advanced warp drive based on specifications shared by Starfleet, improved pulse disruptor cannons, and quantum torpedoes, also technology obtained from the Federation.

When designing the K'tari-class Klingon Engineers used the basic structure, space-frame and system requirements for the B'rel, but using the largest examples of the type (175m OAL) Construction began in 2378 and the first K'tari was launched in 2381.

The K'tari Light Warship fulfills all of its design requirements and has proven to be a potent combat vessel. The placement of the vessels disruptors allows a full 720 degree field of fire, while also allowing 4 disruptors to fire forward.

Cool looking BOP kind of looks like a cross between a Raptor and a B'rel.

I tried to find a pic of a 'modern' looking BOP, that's the best I could come up with. I too liked it.

With this build I stuck with the Klingon Space Dock rules and the restrictions it puts on Klingon vessels (max warp speed of 9.8, limited medical and recreation facilities, limited science systems, no EMH, larger SU bridge, no bio-neural computers) I did have to mod the build as Renaissance stated that the K'tari had a 2000+ cochrane M/AM warp core (which would develop 800 pwr) and by my calculation that warp core would be 170 su, and I would have had to drop the ablative armour to have it fit, something I didn't think was appropriate for this build. I didn't add a detachable bridge or forward module.

i think the looks of the BOP are just right and is a bit of throw back to earlier periods that give it a Retro look.

as it stands the write-up is finished, I tweaked the build today, omitting a disruptor, adding a larger warp core, added more transporter ability and added in a few more torpedoes.
