Description:
One of the smaller capital ships used by the Gorn Commonwealth, the D'rothar class destroyer is used for escort and patrol duties. This particular vessel is a bit more advanced than most of the ships in the Gorn fleet, with slightly more robust electronics.

The primary mission of these vessels it military in nature, but it is not uncommon to see them used for diplomatic and courier functions. Although the D'rothar is not a "fast" vessel in the strictest sense, it has endurance to burn and plenty of power on tap. The D'rothar is equipped with a fully redundant main impulse engine and tractor beam capacity to spare.

As is typical of most Gorn ships, the hull of the D'rothar is designed for ramming. Federation observers have noted that the Gorn, while not suicidal, do not give up easily in a fight. Damaged vessels have been known to sell themselves as dearly as possible to purchase the survival of their comrades.

This "kamikaze" tendency is buoyed by the fact that the torpedo magazines of the D'rothar class are located at the ship's bow. In essence, the entire ship is able to function as a "detachable warhead" when necessary. Federation observers have noted that the Gorn are loathe to do this, but are more than willing when it becomes necessary.

These vessels saw limited action near the end of the Dominion war, when Breen ships attempted to cross Gorn space in their effort to reach the Federation.

This class of ship is designed around the saucer / hull / nacelle scheme, and bears many similarities to Federation designs. The saucer comprises the main forward hull and contains crew quarters, command structure, and all science equipment. The engineering hull is an oblong structure protruding directly from the aft of the saucer. The engineering hull contains the holds, shuttle bays, engineering and power systems. The ship's two nacelles protrude above and below the engineering hull.
