Maquis Raider questions
I'm putting together stats on the Maquis Raider used by Chakotay's group in "Caretaker". I believe it was also seen in "Preemptive Strike" on TNG. Just wanted to get a feel for it, so thought I'd check out your opinions.
Size: I'm saying Size 3, about equal to a Jem'Hadar Attack Ship (possibly a touch larger).
Crew: Voyager has taken on what seems to be a fairly sizable Maquis complement (enough that, early on, they thought they could take the ship and still handle her). Any thoughts?
Impulse Engines: Class 3A, given it was having trouble outrunning a Galor-Class ship, which also has Class 3A's.
Warp Drive: Can't remember the Type, but capable of Warp 4.0/6.0/9.0. The nacelles are in pretty close to the main body, but I'd say only partially embedded.
Weapons: Canonically we know it has an aft torpedo launcher, and I'd guess a forward one too. Type VIII phasers to keep up with the other Maquis ships we've already had LUG stats for. I was toying with the idea of making the "wingtip" phasers Type 8 Pulse Cannons. Suggestions?
Warp Power: I posited around 250 Power/Round (a Class 3 core, I think, but not sure without my SD copy to hand).
Shields: Tricky. I'm guessing around 400-450 with Type A shield grid and Threshold 150-ish. It's a tad high for such a small ship but I reckon the Maquis would have jazzed the shields as much as possible.
Sensors: around Type 5 or 6, with Strength 7-8 and Gain +1.
Transporters: 1 of each (12-person Emergency). Latest Starfleet types for range but only up to Class F transition coils.
Not sure about Medical Ratings or Security/Science.
Any ideas?

According to Rick Sternbach, the Peregrine is the little "fighter" style ship, what Steve refers to as the "Starfleet Attack Fighter." The so-called "Maquis Raider" used by Chakotay's Maquis group is somewhat larger.

I think your looking at a 40 mark crew, perhaps a few more.
Voyager's total crew is ballpark 130-150.

Well I think if you look at page 226 DS9 Core book, you'll find the stats for a Peregrine class Modified courier, the traditional Maquis ship. from there it's just a matter of converting from basic to advanced. One thing that bugs me is the size Class 2. It's gotta be bigger then that...

Yes, there has traditionally been some confusion over the original name of the class modified by the Maquis. It's quite clear (from DS9 "The Maquis, Parts I & II") that the Peregrine knockoffs are the little fighter ones (since Sisko refers to them as being modified support couriers) that look exactly like the Starfleet Attack Fighters. The type of ship used by Chakotay's group has never been referred to as anything except a Raider, so there's very little info to go on about its original function in Starfleet (and hence its standard capabilities). From the size and design, I might say she's a heavy scoutship from around the 2330-40 era, which would give her good warp capabilities for a ship of her size and age. The confusion over the two types of Maquis ships wasn't helped by there being no piccies of them in the Star Trek Encyclopedia...

I have giving this some thought on this matter for some time and I have got a couple of ideas.
First off, I have to agree that the Peregrine class Courier/Warp and the Star Fleet Attack Fighter are different variants of the same design. Perhaps, the class was designed as a modular field modifiable design.
Secondly, I would class as Chokatay's Maquis Raider as a Light Escort, perhaps even the Capella class Light Escort class mentioned both in both the Price of Freedom and Spacedock supplements. Again the actual Shipframe could be customisable and could be used not only as an Escort, but also as Heavy Scout class.

It seems that the secondary hull is similar, and they took a smaller primary hull from some other ship.. My guess is a Yeager was nearly destroyed, and the Marquis rebuilt it with scrap parts.. Hope this help...

The thing is we don't seem to see the Yeager until 6th season DS9, which is 2374.
The Maquis raider is seen 1st season VOY, 2371.
Now from what we know, the yeager is a 'throw-together' ship for the Dominion war.
Now SF is hardly going to use ex-Maquis ships unless they were really that short.
So in the end I'd say the raider is atleast a federation design if not StarFleet.
Class? WHo knows?

My take on the Maquis Raider is that from the Daystrom Institute http://www.ditl.org/ web page.
It gives a fictional non-canon history of the vessel (called the peregrine in this case), as a border patrol and customs ship run by Starfleet.
The vessel was in operation from the Early to mid 24th century, but was downgraded and mothballed as other ships (such as the Miranda) were downgraded into those rolls...
The Maquis simply stole and uprated many of them.
As for size. Chakotays ship definatly had between 40-50 crew considering how many Maquis have been killed and how many were in the meeting in 'Repression'. But its easy to assume that they 'packed them in' not expecting a long voyage...
However the vessel seen as the hull of the Yeager can in no way be the same vessel. Watch caretaker, there is no chance that an Intrepid saucer and nacelles would fit that hull, therefore it must be a design element to copy the older hull, and considering its on screen prescence...
Using the earlier fictioal history, it then could become an assumption that the Yeager was designed as a larger, more capable border patrol/customs cutter used to replace the older vessels that may have been failing in the task since the 'Raider' was retired...

If you want to go even further in the problems with fitting the Intrepid saucer to the body of the Yeager, the SRM: Starfleet flavour text says that the body is based off a Starfleet Attack Fighter! I know Steve is probably going with the various official sources on this one (which, as mentioned, tend to confuse the Attack Fighter with the Raider because the Maquis on DS9 occasionally used ships looking very much like the SAF), so I won't lay the blame at his feet http://www.trekrpg.net/Board/ubb/smile.gif

The Maquis have used a number of different vessels. Of which the large raider used by Chakotay (and also by Eddington) is the largest. But to confuse matters the model used during filming was a modification of a model used for a smaller ship in 'Preemptive Strike'. This smaller ship is similar in size to the Starfleet Attack Fighter (which has also been used by the Maquis).

Same hull but many variants/sizes/mission profiles.
