Happy belated Thanksgiving, then! You know, if I'm not mistaken, the Canadian Thanksgiving actually takes place during the harvest season. How sensible.

There are a lot of ways we Yanks would do well by imitating you.

The US one as it stands now is not so much for the harvest but rather was proclaimed by Abraham Lincoln during the Civil War. It was on the last Thursday of November. If memory serves Franklin Roosevelt changed it to the fourth Thursday of November (to allow for a longer holiday shopping season - it seems to have worked... :))
