Talos IV

I've been watching old episodes of TOS and well I was thinking about the Talosians from "The Cage" and "The Menagerie".

Since their appearance in TOS they've not made an appearance and I've been thinking of using them in an adventure. Remember they can make a starship change course without even noticing it so they can get a ship to Talos IV qiute easily.

One idea would be for the crew to investigate the dissaperance of another ship and based on sensor readings its last known course was towards Talos IV. The crew are ordered to apprenhend the Captain and take him into custody for violation of General Order 7.

Another idea would be some other race has learned about the Talosians and have gone to Talos IV to kidnap a Talosian in order to learn about the nautre of their powers. I could see the Breen or Romulans doing it.

I am not sure that SF would break General Order 7 even to retrieve a renegade captain. After all it is still the only death penalty on the books in the Star Trek universe. Sending in another starship would be too dangerous, they could easily fall the control of the Talosians.

I wanted to use them as a race about to acheive true energy form. At which point they may have power like the organians or Q.

Though from there I don't know where to go, so I abandoned the idea for the most part.

Hrm. How about that they're about to evolve, but have charges that they need to ensure are taken care of... like Pike and that woman, maybe over the years, they've taken on other people who needed a chance to live their lives without the painful reality of their individual situations.

Negotiating with them to "take care" of a lot of people who will suddenly find themselves without the illusions of paradise upon which they've come to depend would be pretty harsh.

Of course, at the end, when the Talosians achieve energy form, you could have them expend nearly all of their beginning power to *create* that reality for those people - to give them their bodies back in a healed and pure form, for example, and have that nearly kill the Talosians - but leave just enough energy that over years, their power will again return. Basically, they're like mini-Q's, they've just not quite yet learned how to recover from the use of massive powers like that... :)

The Doc

Well perhaps Pike and Vena are meant to be the parents of a new race of Talosians, and upon their accension the Talosians give them working bodies, and revive the planet to a lush world.

Mabye it has already happened.

wouldn't that be a surprise for the ships when they arrive? :)

The Talosians have reached a new stage of evolution and are about to ascend to a new state of being. However, they still want to rebuild their world to absolve themselves for destroying it in the first place.

Using Pike and Vinna as a template, they manage to create a new world...a new idylic world...but before the Talosians leave they bring Starfleet to Talos IV to come to their world and take their new world under the protection of the Federation.

The descendants of Pike and Vinna while human...genetically...have advanced mental powers while not on the level of the Talosians they do have them which would be a valuable asset to the Federation.

So now the Federation has to decide what to do with Talos IV. Admit them as members or consider them a danger to the Federation. I an see two captains each advocating a different course of action...

:) I like this a lot - and the answer from the typical Federation historical reactions to situations like this is: Watch them, study them, and then decide whether or not they can join up. :) Maybe the Talosians made a space station for the Federation, a la DS9 - "Come stay here, watch our children, and decide, in your own time, to let them stay a part of your family." They could even be lower-powered prophet-type influences throughout a series set there...

And as for the Talosian kiddies, maybe they don't *want* to stick around with a race of people that were embarassed and full of pity for people who suffered physical deformity... Lots of trust-winning going on to make it work...

Is Pike stil alive? Sort of a long livied 1st Citizen?

How many New Talosians are there?

Are they as psionic as the Betazoids?

I like this idea :)

Maybe they have a propechy that they will someday bring true peace to the galaxy. :)

I would think he died some years ago but is respected as the man who brought "humanity" to the Talosians.

I figure a couple of thousand...enough genetic drift to prevent inbreeding...where they came from? Well who knows...the Talosians are pretty powerful and well you could explain where some of the missing ships went.

I'd think they'd be as powerful or more powerful than the Betazoids but tending towards illusion based powers.

The new Organians?

I've watched "The Menagerie" a dozen times, but I'm wondering why there's a General Order devoted to avoiding Talos IV. Is it because it's located so close to the heart of the Federation so that it'd be easy to contact by mistake?

They are stuck on a dead rock, with only a few left alive. They are slavers, heartless masters who would force the galaxy toserve them. They are unstoppable. They must never leave that rock. It would be bad if they did.

Starfleet would NEVER violate this. They talosians are more powerful than betazoids or Vulcans.

Starfleet fears them.

But the Klingons don't

Adventure seed.

Captain K''orgos wants the talosian technology. He has stolen a telepathic shield. He can change the balance of power with talosian based windows upgrades.

He must be stopped

I got the impression at the end of Menegerie that the Talosians have learned some form of compassion and humanity from Pike. So some of the stuff we've been speculating about may actually be possible. One thing we've seen in Trek is that societies change...Klingons from class A villains to the Federation's best buddies...so I'd like to think the Talosians could change.

I think Starfleet wouldn't have G7 for just one planet, it probable says: 'Do not contact planets under class A restriction, under penalty of death. See appendix for list of class A worlds.'

I think it'd be interesting to have Pike alive, I bet the Talosians could do it. He never resigned, and he was kept on file after his accident, would he still be considered in Starfleet?

I thought General Order 7 was quite specific. It mentions Talos VI by name. I think its quoted in the Star Trek Player's Guide.

In several sources it states (To Paraphrase)

General order #7: No contact shall be made with Talos IV under penalty of death.

Kirk or Menedez states it's the only Death Penalty left on the books.
