If I am to go through with writing up 'Mr. Tricorder', I will need to know which disadvantages from the ALF document stack: energy being, no manipulators and/or unusual size?
Also, is the Tech link advantage cost the same for melee, energy and projectile weapons?
I don't have that document anymore, but from what i remember it's not stated anywhere whether the disads stack or not.
It all depends on what exactly is 'Mr Tricorder'.

Well, I was thinking, one of the crew's tricorders becomes infected with an Ancient Alien Computervirus(TM), and this re-program develops a rudimentary sentience.

An AI Tricorder would be something of a blast, actually. That touch of comedy needed during a rough time, for example.
"Lieutenant, try and scan for the Jem'Hadar," sez the commander.
"Hello! They shroud. I can't read them when they shroud! Why did they make you a commander?" snaps Mr. Tricorder.
"Shut up," Lieutenant hisses at his tricorder.
"Well, he's stupid if he thinks we're going to scan for Jem'Hadar with any success, although, hey, recalibrate me this way..."
Lieutenant does.
"Aahhh, that feels good."
"Can you scan for Jem'Hadar now?" Lieutenant, impatient.
"Of course not, weren't you listening? This just makes me vibrate in a way that feels good."
