Fall of the Dominion!

Okay this is a "kick the can" thread. That means I present a basic idea and then we flesh it out by kicking the can around.

Okay the idea goes like this.

With the Alpah Quadrant Alliance defeat of the Dominion, their 10,000 year history is shaken by their first surrender.

This echoes like a shot through the Gamma Quadrant and suddenly the Dominion is facing uprising after uprising.

Ferengi Arms Runners are making a small fortune outfitting every little group that wants to rise up against the Dominon.

But even with the confusion that Odo's prescence has created in the great link, the Dominion can still easily put down the brush fires one at a time.

So with desperation in their hearts and alliance is forming of "rebels" or "freedom fighters".

Now I don't know where to go from here.

I have to find a way to get my player's ship involved and send them into the Gamma Quadrant.

Any ideas?

How would you approach this?

This is a lousy idea and depends on how mileage you try to get out of the Borg.

Let's say some of your rebels of whatnot manage to learn about the Borg.

They infiltrate something like DS5 with outside help and steal a lot of data about the Borg.

Back in the Gamma Quad, they secretly start to build a homing beacon that will attract the Borg to investigate. the objective is to get the Dominion to the Borg's attention and hope the Dominion will prevail but with heavy losses.

The players are drafted by SF Intel to recover the information and slowly they uncover the insane plot.

The Garm were a race of people who chafed under Dominion control. When they learned of the Dominion's defeat in the Alpha Quadrant they rose up against their oppresors. But the Dominion made an example of them. Jem'hadar slaughtered all who opposed and after the uprising was quashed the 'Quickening' virus was deployed.

An emissary from the Garm bought passage to the Alpha quadrant with a Ferangi arms dealer. He intends to ask the Federation for help combating the disease.

The PC's ship could be the first to encounter the emissary and have to deal with him as a potential carrier of a deadly disease as well as any Jem'hadar who might want to stop him.

They could also be assigned to return the emissary to his homeworld and take a Federation medical team. Of course the Dominion will have used a new strand of virus that works in different ways, possibly infecting away teams. And the Dominion will be anxious to stop the Federation discovering a cure and providing it to other rebelling races.

The can is kicked :D

Odo convinces the Shapeshifters that it's time they took a diplomatic step forward. They use their technological know-how to create a large space station near the wormhole, invite leaders of the various races of the Gamma Quadrant to come aboard, and attempt to hammer out a new "Dominion." One with planetary sovereignty and the like.

Basically, a series with an emphasis on forming a new, better, nicer Dominion. Jem'Hadar providing labour to rebuild horribly charred worlds, the reconstruction efforts on the Teplan people, the gathering of the various planetary leaders (many of them brand new from local overthrows of the Dominion-Collaborator leaders of previous rule).

Odo can guest-star, but I'd suggest the "Female Shape-Shifter" (I always referred to her as 'Jens' as a tip of the hat to the actress) as the Dominion representative.

And, of course, it's a disaster from step one. THe Dominion don't know how to negotiate anything, the various leaders want payment and/or revenge, and the Jem'Hadar would rather die than trade their swords for tape-measures.

Sooooo... Odo sends a request through DS9 - bring me some diplomats. And enter the crew's ship... A Federation party to facillitate this "new Dominion" from their objective uninvolved point of view: a diplomatic feat of legerdemain of significantly epic proportions: I mean, you're trying to negotiate many many many formerly subjugated worlds. Ouch.

Space Station intruige, various assassination attempts, cultural clashes, many missions of mercy to planets, etc etc etc. Rich for reaping. :)

Hmm...

Okay, lets say that under the peace treaty the Federation/Grand Alliance is allowed to establish a base in the Gamma Quadrant, for exploration missions support and such.

Okay, the base is currently under construction, its a joint Federation-Klingon project (the Romulans had originally intended to join the project but pulled out without giving a good excuse).

Anyway, contact with the construction crew is lost and so Starfleet orders the ship to investigate and they arrive to find that base had been destroyed. Among the dead is a relative of a powerful Klingon clan chief who assigns his nephew, a rough warrior of the old school, to "assist" and he arrives with his fully armed and ready Klingon cruiser eager to beat some answers out of somebody. His first stop is the Dominion's homeworld believing that the Dominion is responsible. The PCs of course go along to prevent a "diplomatic incident".

They arrive to find the Dominion in an uproar. Jem'Hadar ships fill the skies all of them with their hackles up ready to blast anything that wanders into their area.

Odo shows up and informs the PCs about the troubles he's been facing. Bushfire revolts have broken out throughout the Dominion. Even a number of Vorta commanders have borken their conditioning and led their own Jem'Hadar into active revolt. The worst of the matter is that the various "liberation" groups have formed an alliance and began joint operations and the Jem'Hadar are hard pressed to keep the lid on the situation. Apparently some liberation groups have also began targeting Alpha Quadrant assets and ships on the principle that they are just another "Dominion" here to plunder the Gamma Quadrant.

[Side note: there is a Romulan Tal'Shiar operation going on in the Gamma Quadrant. They have began sending "advisors" and ships to assist the liberation groups and in fact the whole unity of the various liberation groups was started by and controlled by the Tal'Shiar. They want a destabalized Gamma Quadrant ripe for their own expansion...:))

Well take it from there Zymmer, this is all off the top of my head so its all you get for the moment :D

Er, that sounded wrong.

As far as a 2 parter goes, the "Set up" of the Gamma Station series, as amended/revamped/totally improved by Ghosty, would be a good one. And, hey, it could be a place to revisit later, or with "holiday" eps: go on, you know you want to throw a romantic tryst with one of your uninvolved PCs with an NPC on that station. You know you do... ;)

What I had in mind was a sort of set-up for a possible spin-off. By the end of the story the evil Tal'Shiar will be exposed and the Romulan efforts to destabalize the Dominion routed. Of course Odo has a lot of work to do, to create a kinder gentler Dominion peacefully co-existing with its former subject races...sort of like the British Commonwealth after the British gave up its colonies under the protection of a benevolent Jem'Hadar.

The station would become a player as it sits on the Gamma Quadrant end of the Bajoran Wormhole...well its the most strategic location and it'll add to the defence of the Alpha Quadrant. NPCs can transfer off the PC ship to the station (ala O'Brien) to give it continuity and a possible new game series...:)

The thing is the station is an allied station jointly administered by Starfleet and the KDF (with a rotating command, a Starfleet CO with a Klingon XO who will take command with a Starfleet CO and so on). The rest of the crew is a mixed crew from all allied powers...Starfleet, KDF and Bajoran militia with a small Cardassian detachment. The Romulans have refused to participate but of course there are several Tal'Shiar operatives on board undercover.

I have to think on it. Not the direction I wanted to go, but it is an interesting idea nonetheless :)

I don't think I would use it as is, but I might steal bits and pieces of it :)

Okay how about this instead.

Reverse the timing on the station.

The civil urrest is occuring in the Dominion, refugees begin pouring through the wormhole.

Finally a request for mediators comes from the Dominion to help them negotiate a peace.

At the end of the day theya gree to have a station built to serve as neutral ground.

I was considering a similar scenario.

We all know that the Romulans are always interested in acquiring new territory, so why not have Romulan operatives covertly supplying all kinds of weapons and such to rebellious Dominion subjugates in exchange for pledging their loyalty to the Romulan Star Empire? Just imagine what complications that scenario would cause!

With Romulan weapon shipments and "advisors" secretly aiding one or more Dominion-controlled races/worlds, the Dominion would certainly be justified in retaliating, perhaps even sparking a new war in the Alpha and/or Beta Quadrants.

Better yet, let one of of the rebellious planets or regions actually "succeed" in breaking away from the Dominion, then fall under the control of the Romulans. Once the Romulan Star Empire moves in with an armada of vessels (assuming they're allowed through the wormhole) and begins making their patented changes to the people and regions that they now control, have the Dominion respond by either sending in the Jem'Hadar to retake the region, destroy the entire region with some uber-weapon (possibly starting another war), or perhaps [my favorite] unleashing some heinous virus that affects the indigenous peoples AND the Romulans.

In the third scenario, the virus is unwittingly carried back to the twin seats of Romulan power. Within days, weeks, or months, upwards of 90% of the populations of Romulus and Remus are infected and either dead or dying. The Senate approaches the UFP for humanitarian aid and gets it (of course). Unfortunately, Vulcans are also susceptible to the virus and it begins its course through the Federation.

This nightmare scenario grows steadily worse when the Dominion refuses to provide assistance ("Hey, it's the Romulans' fault... ask THEM for help!"). Projections indicate that, unless a cure is found, over 75% of all Vulcanoids (including Romulans) will be infected by the end of the year. Studies of the virus also indicate that it is genetically linked (meaning it passes from parent to newborn) and that it is, when all is said and done, 100% fatal.

Player characters are placed in a situation where they need to either develop a cure - or somehow "acquire" one - by any means necessary. This becomes even more of an issue if one or more of the PCs or their friends/colleagues are partially or completely Vulcan or Romulan.

[I'd say that Vulcan- or Romulan-dominant mixed species characters are susceptible to the disease (unless, perhaps, they are part Klingon (or whatever), too, and their Klingon (or whatever) heritage holds the key to a cure). How ironic would it be for the Founders to create a disease to kill Romulans that relies on Klingons for a cure?! The Romulans might rather die than ask, and the Klingons might rather die than help!]
