What does Canada Day celebrate, specifically? Besides Canada (duh!) ;)
It's like your July 4th.Quote:

Happy Canada day, guys (even if I'm a bit late on that).
Except nobody fought and killed anybody, so it doesn't mean quite as much.Quote:

Happy "Today the British decided we were too much trouble to rule from afar, so they let us have our own government, although we're still nominally in thrall to the Queen, and she's on our money" Day! :D
Hey! stop throwing snowballs at me! OW! OWW!
So its when Britain gave up direct rule and let Canada govern themselves?
What year was this?
Australia being in the same position only got self rule in 1901.
Happy Canada Day! :)
Our day is actually July 1st, we are a bit ahead of the game, but thanks to everyone :)
Canada Rocks!
I seem to remember that Canada gained its independence some time in the 1960s. '64 maybe?Quote:

Happy belated Canada Day, btw. :)
Close Sea Tyger... but off by a century. ;)
1867 was the date of Canadian Confederation :)
If anyone wants to know about Canada (some Canadians could use this info as well ;) ) Go to this site...

I found it to be a good overview of Canadian history. Not indepth, but good coverage. :)
Ah! Very interesting reading. :) I wonder how different the US would have been had the revolution not been successful.Quote:

So, if I read correctly, Canada was a self-governed "dominion" of the United Kingdom from 1867-1931, when they gained their sovereignty in the "British Commonwealth of Nations"?
That sounds aboot right ;)
We ratified our constitution in 1982(?) IIRC.
Happy Canada day, y'all!
Aslan is right, 1982 is when we ratified our own constitution Canadien style. Happy Canada Day to all the Canucks.:D
