I am having a hard time figuring out the difference between the difficulties to scan for “a ‘regular’ ship,” “running silent,” and “cloaking.” :confused:
Could someone point me in the proper direction?
Examples (with difficulties) would be helpful, if you have the time?

Okay a ship running silent will cease all sensor and communications emmission. They would use nothing that an enemy could detect to classify them as a starfleet vessel vice a merchant vessel.
Or they could alter the frequencies to civilian parameters.
Cloaked vessels would not be picked up by anything other then sensors looking for there warp emmissions or impulse.
Detecting a ship: TN 10 + any modifiers from hazards and conditions. (NG, p. 110)
Detecting a ship that is "running silent": +15 to TN. (NG p. 103)
Detecting a ship that is Cloaked: + Cloaking Device Rating to TN. (NG p. 138)

OK, I am assuming you mean 15 TN TOTAL not “+” for that would make it 25? Which is correct: 15 or 25? (I only ask because 25 seems a little high and, in fact, would be almost as effective as a Class 1 cloaking device)Quote:

Actually, the text specifically says "+15 to the TN". I in turn intpreted the cloaking device rating to be a modifier as well, since its text indicated that the rating was the TN. And if so, running silent would be much more effective.Quote:

That's right. Now, one thing to keep in mind is that this is your game. If you think 25 is too high a TN to detect a Running Silent ship, or 28 too high to detect a Class 2 Cloak, then by all means, chenge the numbers. That's the Narrator's prerogative. :)Quote:
