[Medbook] Update

In case anyone is interested, I thought I'd post a brief update on my medbook project. I'm almost done compiling material from the Star Trek Encyclopedia (drugs, medicines, diseases, procedures, equipment, etc.), and have been working on a couple of the other chapters.

I'll be on hiatus for the next two weeks, then I'll be back to the medbook. I expect to have a partial first draft done by the end of the year. At that point, I'll post requests for readers and I'll troll for help on the TOS and VOY sections. :)

I've also sort of settled on a layout for the book, but I'm not sure if I want to set it up for two-sided or one-sided printing. I'm thinking I'd want my copy in a 3-ring binder, with info on one side of the paper. As I get closer to finishing it, I'll post a query as to which is preferred.

I'm reasonably knowledgeable about things TOS, so if you need help there, keep me in mind. And what I don't know offhand, I can certainly "look up"...

I'm a little behind in the scans I was doing for you, due to a couple of clients throwing money in my and actually requiring that I give them product for it... ;)

Like 1975's Technical Manual, this was an attempt at creating the sort of reference book that would actually be used in the Star Trek universe. I've read that the Ballantine version was a reprint of a fan publication, but can't confirm that.
The book was originally packaged as a large paperback with a silver card over the front cover, identifying it as a Star Trek book; the whole thing was wrapped in plastic. The cover of the book itself has only the words Star Fleet Medical Reference Manual and a picture of a stylized caduceus. No blurb, no author information, no mention of Star Trek.
Perhaps most interesting to fans today is the fact that one of the people involved in creating this book is Doug Drexler, who went on to work for Star Trek years later.

I don't have access to that book yet. Interesting table of contents; thanks for posting it.

I can say for certain that I'm not going into that much detail. :)

Fair enough! Just looking over that table of contents now I'm remembering that some of it was just basic first aid instructions, believe it or not, but it's mostly insights into the physiologies of the main alien species, a cool periodic table of the elements, a section on known diseases among humans and the various aliens.

I am for one really waiting on this project. :) My gamers and I all appriciate the hard work :)
