Coming up to episode 3...
Just a bit of pure self-indulgent rambling...:)
My mate Paul is down in a couple of weeks, for about 10 days, and I'll be on holidays from work...so we all know what that means! :)
Around 10 days of solid gaming!
I just thought I'd mention in passing that the Trek series I'm running with him (more-or-less; he only gets down a few times a year) is my first CODA campaign, and thus far it's doing bloody well, if I may toot my own horn!
Paul's character is an interesting one...his name is Nevek, and he's a Cardassian. He's a Cardassian, mind you, who is a similar concept to Worf: he was rescued as a baby by a Starfleet Officer during the Cardassian/Federation war, and raised on Earth (Juneaux, Alaska, to be precise). He is also unique in that he is the first (and so far, only) Cardassian in Starfleet.
The "Pilot" for the series was an Academy adventure, with Nevek in his final year (it was late 2370). It dealt with one of the earliest attempts by the Founders to screw with the UFP - they had inserted a Changeling into the Academy, and Nevek was the only survivor of 4 cadets who were trying to solve a murder mystery when one of their number was killed, following finding out about the Founder's presence.
Episode "2" was fun. I shamelessly borrowed Owen's "Relic" setting and had Nevek delivering a runabout to the Dyson Base. While there, a disease broke out which did not affect Cardassians, and one-by-one, the crew of Freeman Base became ill, eventually losing consciousness. Turns out, of course, that the disease was a biological warfare agent being tested by the Tal Shiar - perfect place: isolated, out of contact with the Federation for long periods, etc. They slipped in with a cloaked Romulan shuttle during one of the deliveries and had been observing and infecting the Starfleet personnel.
The fun part was Nevek bluffing his way past one of the Tal Shiar officers, pretending he was an Obsidian Order operative, and feigning outrage that the Tal Shiar would dare interfere with an OO operation! :D Finally, after a dogfight between the Romulan shuttle and a runabout, Nevek caught the Romulan officer.
Episode #3: For this, I'm planning on shamelessly plagiarising Dan Stack's "The Vanished". I read thru the synopsis and absolutely loved it. Only problem is that Nevek is no engineer or science officer (he's Command branch and a hot-shot pilot), and he's gonna have to fix transporters and such. So I'm sending along an NPC from The Next Generation: Hannah Bates, who fled the Genome Colony on Moab IV aboard the Enterprise. I thought it'd be a nice tie-in to the series, and give Nevek a bit of a hand in the "brains" department.
Oh well...I'll stop rambling now. I'm sure nobody particularly wants to read an excessively long post like this, but I wanted to get it out of my head before bed time! :)
Thanks for your time! Cya...
