I've noticed lately (in the last couple of months) that people on the boards have become increasingly agrresive (IMO) and take offence these days at almost anything said by fellow members. I remember a time when you could have good discussions about varied topics without people becoming upset. These are my observations and i'm just wanting to see others opinions.

I agree. IMO, it tends to be the same folks over and over. Some people like to be argumentative for the sake of being argumentative, and some people are just prats in general. :)
I actually have to agree... I do think that there are a few out here who are getting a little more touchy... or maybe they were that way to begin with, and I just didn't notice.:rolleyes:
But it does seem that it doesn't take as much to cause tempers to flare these days.
You know, the US (and most democracies) are built around the idea that people of good conscience can have legitimate dissagreements. We seem to be far too ready to forget that anymore.

It might just be my opinion but I also feel that we had a much greater respect for moderators a time back too.
I've seen a bit of the same thing, and I'm more appreciative that the political threads are still verboten now... we might have seen actual bloodshed by now, otherwise. :(

For Pete's sake, that is what a forum is for.
If people can't disagree and get pissed at one another, then its not a real forum. If everyone agrees on every topic and accepts everything said by everyone else, its simply not a forum. Forums are for discussion and debate, not simply a place to blindly agree with everyone else.
Feeling get bruised when people disagree; this isn't a Kindergarten. I surely get irritated when someone tells me my opinion is incorrect, but I don't think that specific topics should become taboo or even exorcised because of it.
I do, however, think that there are a couple of @$$ holes on this system that are intentionally contrary and take a minority position, complain about and berate the opinions of everyone that don't line up with their own, and ruin a spirited debate for those Tellarites among us that enjoy that sort of interaction.
I don't think that its the topics that cause the problems, I think that its a small number of the users.

It is not the contrary opinions that I am talking about (nor do I believe that is the subject of this topic).
I (and I believe this topic) is in reference to persons resorting to personal attacks and name calling, such as what your previous post includes that we find offensive.
Actually I would have to say the opposite that people have gotten more snippy and argumenative since the ban rather than before. At least before the ban the political threads kept all the "unpleasentness" there and not everywhere else. Can't argue about Iraq then get into a fight over Starfleet Marines, can't post your opinion on Ashcroft then beat the hell out of sombody over using a blue die instead of red one!:rolleyes:Quote:

Somebody says something and you get called a Coward by the person taking offenice and a member of the leadership of these very boards, Try to point out that somebody's words are divisive and poorly chosen and they jump all over you implying you "overreacted" get banned for starting a thread and have the thread completely disappear so as Not to upset people using the search engine someday. Watch as the so called A@#holes are sniped at with curt little comments that are almost designed to get a reaction from the person and then blame them for Over reacting.
There was a time when you didn't mind taking jabs from somebody becuase they were probably backing your opinion up in another thread, A time when no subject was "verboten" and things got hot but never so much that masses of people left and those that did often eventually returned because hey they found out how cold and nasty other boards are out there. A time when you offered an oppposing opinion and weren't jumped on like some dead gazelle being eated up by a pack of hyienias.

No it wasn't the opposed opinions i was referring too. Like others have said here it's the automatic jump to personal insults and attacks. And I agree there are a few as****** here too. People seem more sensitive too comments not directed at them. *shrugs* was just seeing if others had noticed it as well.
And seeing as I'm 6 ' 7 " IRL i'm coming to get all of you dissenters :D

Seriously though, I dont think that there is a lessening of respect for moderators, before I was one I respected posters based on input and content, whether or not they were moderators was irrelevant...
As was their need. Some heated discussions occured 'back in the day' from Starfleet Marines through to opinions on the Death Penalty, and while tempers flared, and occasionally personal insults were traded, nobody cried much, nor did they seem to shun or ignore each other... Well apart from Red Quacker...
But the recent polarised opinions on matters political seemed to get out of hand, and when days would go past with zero movement on the RPG forums, and all the activity was here in chat insulting each other over policical choices... Its easy to see why the ban was imposed.
It just so happened that CODA was released at around that time, and suddenly this RPG forum started discussing RPGs and Trek... Imagine that! Chicken & the Egg? or simply coincidence? (I think the two are related)

And Eric R. We both know that with or without the ban. The Starfleet Marines arguement would go on and on... Just because it wasn't personal here, its the most contensious issue in this community, resulting in my labelling as a 'snivelly left-wing pinko' when I turned away a player as a Starfleet Marine because I didn't use them in my PBEM...Quote:

It is, if you get bent outta shape over someone's opinion about a TV show or a roleplaying game. I could see getting steamed over a few things ont he political threads, but there's a bunch of people here are wigging out over every little thing now.Quote:
