What happened to our TOS favs?

With the annoucement of the Lost Era books I was wondering what everyone else thought happened to the TOS characters.

I decided that McCoy, Kor, Sarek and April died at the same time as Deforrest Kelley, John Colios, Mark Leonard and Gene Ronddenberry.

I made Nyota Uhura head of Starfleet Intelligience when Star Trek VI came out.

I ignore Unificaiton, Generations and Kirk's rebirth.

I'm thinking about writing a story abou the Great Tribble Hunt ')

I remember that TNG was going to have more than McCoy, Sarek and Spock on the show. What happened to that?

Then there are the missing 20th 21st, 22nd and early 23 centuries. The books I thought got it right are "First Adventure", "Vulcan's Glory" "The Rift" and Strangers from the Sky". These don't have the "hoooly gosh geelly wowowow we time traveled let's not learn about the era".

I like the ideas in "Federation" and "Starfleet Year One" but the writing is awful.

Sarek died in "Unification", before Mark Lenard died.

The only scenes I Iike in "Unification" are between Picard and Admiral Nechivav; and Picard and Sarek. The rest was too much like a rehash of "Journey to Babel". The swain song of Sarek and Spock's relaitonship was better done in "The Voyage Home".

Amanda is dead by the time of Unification.

I miss Amanda and Sarek not having scenes together in Star Trek IV. This makes it worse.

What is this "Lost Era" book? Never heard of it.

Out of curiosity how do you make the jump from Communictions to Intelligence for Uhura?

When Star Trek IV came out I was playing with my mego dolls and decided on a episode with Uhura coming aboard the Enterprise-B.

Since Uhura was in Operations in 2164, I decided that by 2193 she must have advanced. Intelligience means having to communicate and breaking/making codes, translating etc.

her teaching at the Academy was a cover.

she partnered with Pavel a fellow Intell officer. they worked together to uncover a plot to assaisinate the Romulan Praetor. They work with April (winner of the Battle of Cheron), Sarek and Spock. They failed to stop it because of April's death. Later on they foiled the plot of the Vulcan Isolationist Movement (see Spock's World and The Return) to poison the Federation by contining the work of the butcher of Centarous IV. Sarek does not come back. Spock is missing.

soon after with the help of Hikaru and Bones they found out about a secret organization. They also found out why they failed to stop the assassination of the Praetor(Colonel West anyone?) Turns out Uhura was working for them the entire time (since she was a cadet). They uncovered a plot and destroyed it. McCoy dies. She left the organization and wants to leave Starfleet Hikaru and Pavel talk her out of it. Deciding to make something of the rest of her life, she defies the organization by becoming the youngest head of Starfleet Intelligience.

After I read the Lost Era Book I'll work on a story that brings Nyota and Pavel back together to solve a mystery from 40 years ago (2160 Starfleet Year One), What happened to the last Daedulus Class starship, hints of what Spock is doing (Nemesis Redux) and foreshadowing of the warriors of the unforgetable.

The 'Lost Era' books are a short series of novels that cover the gap between the opening segment of Generations and the Opening of TNG. Theres nearly a century to play with.

They have confirmed an Excelsior novel, and I wouldn't be too surprised to see the Enterprise B, Enterprise C, maybe a Dax or two, and a Riker senior... Among others. Although they have said that they will not all be focusing on known characters. I believe that there will be 6 novels in this series.

Doesn't sound like Bilbo is going to get much milage out of them as they will probably cause a warp-core breach with his personal canon.

In my campaign, set at the end of the Dominion War, they're pretty much all dead, save for Spock (still on Romulus), Saavik (a Fleet Admiral in Starfleet, and married to Spock) and Scotty (still travelling the Federation). McCoy passed away quietly, just after Spock contacted him one last time before leaving for Romulus. Sulu retired after an illustrious career on the Excelsior and also died quietly, surrounded by grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Chekov never held a command-level position again after the Genesis incident. Uhura went on to head Starfleet's Communications Command. Chapel succeeded McCoy as Chief of Starfleet Medicine. Kirk is dead - the echo of him in the Nexus is just that: an echo.

Of the various guest-starring characters, the Romulan Commander is now a senator, covertly supporting Spock's reunification project - even Pardek never knew about her. Pike and Vina are still alive on Talos IV. Cochrane and his Companion eventually died together. Mr. Flint also eventually succumbed to old age...

This is cryptography and linguistics, respectively. . . which is only a small part of the Intelligence game. Intelligence also includes reconnaissance, espionage, theft, disinformation programs, and, depending on your government, torture of enemy agents, and assassination.

Intelligence is primarily field work. . . .

Once upon a time...

That statement is becoming less true everyday, in these days of satellitte monitoring, communications intercepts and data analysis, field work is simply one rather small arm of the Intelligence field.

Now add a few hundred years with the relevant technology updates and you will be more likely to find 5 or more support staff for every field agent. After all, after the field work is complete someone has to analyse the information gathered and fit that into the greater picture. its only in Spy Stories that the agent has all the information and makes the decisions in the field...

Now, considering that Trek is a fictional universe, there is little problem with field work remaining a primaryu focus (after all games based on the Data Analysis crew simply dont hold the imagination), but your statement painted a broad and innacurate stroke.

And alot of you had problems with Janeway being an Admiral. At least she did something more then answer the phone and take the Captains messages. :D
