Armors ?

Hi again

Going on with my reading of the DS9 core book, i have seen they briefly talk about armors but do not list typical armors like they do weapons.

Is there anyplace I might find a list of armor (preferably for free) to equip my starting players with ?

ARMOUR:
KLINGON:
All Klingon Warriors wear their armour proudly, and most Klingons are
warriors. Klingon Armour is rough and ready, designed from heavy leathers
and metallic plates. Klingon armour offers +2 Armour value verses hand to
hand and melee attacks and +1 Armour verses energy weapons.
If using optional location hit areas, Klingon armour covers the Torso,
Forearms and Lower leg/Feet.

CARDASSIAN:
The Military forces of the Cardassian Union wear a hardened plate style of
armour, while only slightly restrictive of movement this Armour offers a
universal +2 Armour protection against both close combat and Energy weapons.
Cardassian Armour covers the Torso only.

FEDERATION:
Armour is fairly sparse within Starfleet, as a less militant organisation
than other space fleets in the quadrants, they only issue armour to their
'Rapid Response' ground forces...
The armour consists of a thick padded suit designed to absorb and dissipate
damage than anything else, these heavy jacket cover the wearers arms and
torso, down to the groin. The armour will provide +1 armour against Energy
attacks only. The Federation however is also keen to use Force-field
technology for personal protection, and several devices exist to help keep
Federation and Starfleet personnel alive in combat situations.
(The Rapid Response padded armour can be seen in the episodes; 'Nor the
battle to the strong', and 'The seige of AR-558')

ROMULAN:
The members of the Romulan Star Navy all wear a similar style of armour to
that of the Federation Rapid response forces. However longer experience has
taught them much in reducing the weight and the bulk of such a garment and
the inclusion of a metallic weave allows the armour to offer equal protection
verses close combat damage as well as Energy attacks, namely +1 point of
armour.

OTHER TECHNOLOGY:

MEDICAL HEADS UP DISPLAY
Size: 10cm x 15cm x 0.5cm
Mass: 0.1kg
Duration: 100 hours + induction charging
This headpiece is usually worn by the doctor while treating an unfamiliar
patient or species. The small monocle functions as a voice activated PADD
enabling the doctor to access appropriate medical files and library files
while making diagnosis or prescribing treatment, it is also linked to the
sickbay scanners allowing direct up the minute patient data available, making
these results visible via HUD. Use of this device allows instantaneous
treatment of a patient to occur while still allowing a medical practitioner
to access and view any relevant databases or scanner results, adding a +2
bonus when treating any species that has been recorded within the Federation
medical database.

STARFLEET DIVING SUIT
When operating in an aquatic environment Starfleet officers have the
availability of full face masks allowing total interaction with their
environment, however it has been found that extended operation in an
underwater enviroment can be made easier when the officer concerned is
wearing an outfit designed specifically for underwater use instead of
Starfleet Uniform. The standard outfit is a form fitting Drysuit, which
will keep the wearer completely dry beneath. This suit is insulated and
fitted with equipment loops, allowing said officer to fulfill his function
without any difficulties with little consideration of depth within the human
norm. As visibility is also a consideration, the design of the drysuit has
gone back to the older style of Starfleet uniforms from the 2360's, With
black leg and shoulders and the wearers designated branch of service visible
on the torso and arm area...
Loops are pre-fitted for diving and Starfleet equipment, such as Tricorder,
Phaser, and Divers knife.

(Note: This is a piece of equipment that I plan to introduce in an aquatic
adventure I plan on running near the beginning of the Dominion war, and is
designed in conjunction with the face mask as featured in the TNG Player
Guide.)

Would a Phaser work underwater? I mean the device itself can be waterproofed, but would the beam be able to cut through the water? Never thought about it....

Thanks Sevekk, that would be mostly my work. The Klingon armour is mentioned and described in the TNG rulebook, and the Cardassian, Federation and Romulan Armours are based off that example.

So the Klingon Armour is LUG canon.

As for the phaser being used underwater it depends on the power of plot for individual narrators. In other words, its up to you, simply add a dive knife if it doesn't...

Would a phaser work underwater? Probably...but for limited range. Water tends to refract light pretty quickly...but as Dan just said, it's up to you.

...not to mention the fact that using a beam of concentrated energy underwater would rather quickly raise the local ambient temperature...life could get rather uncomfortable for the firer of said weapon, especially if done repeatedly...

You forgot to read the description that the suit was insulated, which was one of the consideations (for 1 or 2 shots at least...)

um... errr... That was in the original design as an addition to really deep dive capability.

I have found two types of Starfleet armor. Security Armor created by Micheal Wolf. +8 Physical attacks and +8 Energy attacks. It only covers the torso. The other I've found is Starfleet Marine type sierra four combat armor created by Bradly Clark. +6 physical attacks and +6 to energy attacks. It can also do a lot more then I would want to list here. As to the question about phasers underwater, if I remember my physics lessons from school *shudder*....if the phaser were to behave similarly to other light based energy weapons, i.e. lasers, and it could be made into a green colour, then it would penetrate through water quite easily.......I think http://www.trekrpg.net/Board/ubb/smile.gif

IMHO I would have to say the discussion of armour in ST universe mote. The only armour that my group sees in ST game is the set used by Klingons, since there fighting tactics is different to the other governments (ie the prominent use of knives and other bladed weapons). When you have sidearms that can blast a hole the size of a Buick in a rock face, personal body armour is not going to do a person any good. Your character gets hit by a weapon set on heavy disrupt he is six pints of fine red mist, I don't care what armour he is wearing.

Phasers DO NOT behave like lasers.

They produce a focused stream of Nadion particles.

Some subscribe to the theory that the beam does not even travel fully at c; and it clearly contains some kind of kinetic component.

If a phaser strikes a mirror, it would likely destroy it, not reflect the beam.

But if the same beam strikes a close by rock, armor can protect you from fragments. Same for grenade-fragments, flying parts of a ship etc.

It's like a modern day flak jacket or helmet. No chance it will stop a decent bullet like 7.62N (unless you add plates and make it stuffy/heavy) but it does nice with shrapnell and ricochets. And that is what it's used for.

Also we see them only once (Cestus III) StafFleet has Photon mortars. And the Jemmis are using mines. So armor makes sense in certain situations.

Your point is taken Micheal.

I suggest that armour sholud only effect damage from concussion, shrapnel, bladed weapons, etc. Not energy weapons. That's all I'm trying to say.
