How many are you going to purchase the upcoming Elite Force II game?
I've voted no, since I found the demo really disappointing. I have played Elite Force 1 and liked it, and the demo of that game really made me interested in more. Whereas the EF2 demo always repeated itself, in every level there were hoards of stupid giant bugs coming either from out of nowhere, or , something never seen before, out of an exploding wall. That plus the lack of different hit areas, yes, a head shot does the same amount of damage as hitting a limb, really took the fun out of the game.
And, instead of trying to hide the stupid AI of the game, it was even mentioned in the demo. One NPC said something like: "They came in great numbers, wave after wave, with absolutely no regard for their own life." The extremely intelligent answer of Lt. Munro, who, by the way, looks like someone I know and can't stand, was: "Pretty clever tactic." (Normally I am better at remembering such things exactly, but I have played a localized version.)
Like Ergi, I really loved the first game, but the demo of EFII really disappointed me. Apart from what he mentioned, I was very disturbed by phaser rifles that behaved exactly like a shotgun or a machine gun. That and the "You have found a secret area" message gave me the impression I was playing a Quake I Star Trek mod rather than the sequel of the wonderful Elite Force.
So I might buy it if I hear really good reviews of it, but so far this demo did absolutely the opposite of convincing me.
I didn't care much for Elite Force I. While I thought it was good at the beginning, I got real ticked off when I spent hour after hour trying to get past some stupid force field. I gave it up in disgust and haven't played since.
Heh heh. I didn't get very far in the campaign, all I've seen is the Borg ship (and no I don't want help). I enjoy the multiplayer. I like to stand in a certain spot in one of the arenas where no one can get me from behind, but my opponent always waits for me to go after him. I like exploring ships. I wish the PS2 version included the Voyager as an arena.
(This is a cut-and-paste of my remarks on another (non-Trek) forum.)
The two levels in the demo play like Starfleet vs. Aliens. Ripley would be proud. I like waving a tricorder around, but I hope the game tells you what you're looking at at some point. It's good for finding weak spots in walls and trace gasses apparently, but I never found any trace gasses. I really like the costumes for the Hazard Team. Nice mesh of 'commando' and 'Starfleet'. They give you night vision of some sort (with no silly time limit!) but I'd like it if they also gave you a light.
A couple things about weapon selection. The basic set of weapons in these games hasn't really changed since the original Doom, and this game is no different. Normally it's no big deal, but I hit some dissociation when it happens in an established universe like Trek's. Something about taking a shotgun and slapping a Starfleet logo on the side dosn't mesh for me somehow. (Especially since they call it an 'assault rifle' which totally gives the wrong impression.) Just for genre's sake, I kinda wish the game were designed around your crew just having a phaser, compressor rifle, and tricorder. Occasionally throw in something special like the I-Mod for fighting the Borg and so forth.
Anyway. I probably won't buy it (cuz I broke), but I'd like to play it through at some point. Play some Holomatch too. Starfleet vs. Romulans counterstrike would be just the thing I'm looking for...
Yea i plan on buying it but i play mostly for the Multiplayer.
There is just a certain thril playing against a live opponent!:D
Feels a little too "combat oriented" for my tastes.
Then again, I'm a Civ3 fan, so go figure ;)
I purchased this game a week ago and I have to say I enjoyed it as a FPS and a Star Trek game.
On a scale of 1 through 10.
Story line : 9. It's a mix of a shooter and puzzle solving. I'm going to adapt the story to my series. And there some really good banter between the crew members. At one point you find out that plants on Andoria are carnivores.
Action: 7. A.I needs some work and over using the same type of aliens gets repetitive after awhile.
Graphics: 10. Walking around inside and out outside of the Big-E is always fun. Detail, detail, detail.
Playability: 9. There is so much detail I want to go through and see if I missed anything.
Overall: 9
Love the game (as much as someone can love FPS)...
Decent story, decent interactivity, pretty much bug free (finished it without serious hickups of crashes) ... and of course then there is Telsia :)
Anyway, a sight of Romulan Shock troops ducking for cover and yelling "Federation Troops!!!" as your squadron approches is a sight to behold.
God, I wish I had my own high performance computer again so I could enjoy these great games!
I wanted to get EFII...perhaps when I get another 'puter. I will pick it up.
I usually try not to let demos sway me too much either way...keeping in mind that demos do not usually reflect the quality of the final product.
I miss battling online with honorable players.
Respectfully,
General Chang
