Major Sela?

What ever happened to the Yar-Romulan Sela? :confused: Star Trek.com says she's a Commander, but nothing more. I would like to use her my campaign, would someone please post her stats if it has been already posted (I did a search and found interesting ideas though) or lend a few pointers on what they maybe? For instance is Commander high enough to captain a Heavy Cruiser in the Romulan Empire? And some motivation for her to start a war with the Feds, other than attack Vulcan. Any kind of help would be great. That's if I can ask this on these boards. Thanks in advance!

Sela's on-screen rank was Commander, equivalent to a Starfleet rank of Captain. LUG used the rank of Major for their own reasons, probably to harmonise it with their Tal Shiar rank system. Then again, I had serious problems with LUG's entire Romulan rank system - long time Forum members may remember my many arguments with Ross Isaacs regarding the proper place in the rank system for the Centurion. :) Commanders have been seen in command of both D'Deridex and Valdore Class Warbirds.

As for why Sela would want a conflict with the Federation? Well, she could simply be pissed that they've thwarted two of her plans and has been biding her time/rebuilding her power base until now. Maybe she's found out about Sisko and Garak's plot to bring the Romulans into the Dominion War. Maybe she's just a psycho hose beast with a mad-on for the UFP. :)

In my Relic campaign (hit BACK now, Bruce, Dave and Steve - you've been warned!) Sela is in charge of the Romulan spy mission at Dyson Base.

You wouldn't be able to post or e-mail them to me, the stats on the Commander? It would prove most useful to a rookie Narrator. Thanks for the fast post!

I have used Comander Sela as a reocurring "Nemesis" for my players, well before "ST-Nemesis" was shot or hit the cinemas.
I think that the two (or three) TNG shows featuring her only scratched the possible stories she could participate in.

If you want to find reasons why she has a problem with the UFP I have to go with Owen, thinking that Sela might be very unhappy (to say the least) with the Federation, because Picard and company spoiled two of her major plans; and the Romulans aren't known for appreciating failure.

Another idea for you to toy around with:

I think Sela would make an interesting character in a campaign during the DW. Imagine she is given command of a small battlegroup that is being assigned a "no-win-task" A mission that has to be undertaken but with minimal to no chance of survival or success. But Sela somehow manages to pull it of (perhaps getting to know one Reman leader named Shinzon?!) and so wins back some long lost respect and influence in the empire.

I think Sela would also be the perfect choice to use the void in Romulan leadership created by the events seen in "ST-Nemesis".
Although I never thought that she would have been part in the play to assasinate the preator and the senat, I could picture her making the most of the situation in the aftermath. Rising again to a high position within the fleet.

What about this dilemma for her:

Now she has once again gained enough power and influence but has to find, that the Federation and the Star Empire are closer than ever to a lasting peace. She has to decide wether she is willing to enter an alliance or has to take same radical action to start a new crisis...

I've always had a knack for the Romulans but I think that Sela is a perfect figure to play with.

I had this in mind for my own series, if it should ever come back to life. What do you think?

With regards to Sela, I imagine that she was somewhat exiled - perhaps being made commander of an isolated outpost, where she might weild local power, but withouththe scope she once had.

I also agree with you Nico - I think she would probably not have been involved in the takeover of the Senate and, allong with alot of other such similar exiles, she would take the opportunity to sieze a piece of the power once the Scimitar was no more!

If my friends will join me in the new set of adventures that a rapidly taking shape in my head I'll let you know what happend with Sela in my corner of the ST-Universe :-)

Well, in my Mental re-editing of Nemesis, I took the true mastermind of events to be Sela. It was a simple matter for her to remain behind the scenes and out of the picture...

It breaks down like this;

Major/Commander/Sub-Commander Sela is disgraced after several failed missions thwarted by Picard. And so she has a need to rebuild her own personal power-base along witha personal grudge against Picard and the Enterprise.

Her standing is further reduced by the Alliance to fight the Dominion, and with a looming friendship with the Federation, her hardline standing is seen as a flaw...

Thats when she discovers Picards clone, and begins to plot events. Ensuring some covert help to the Remans, and helping Shinzon to grow and become a Reman trooper, starting his rise to power... For this she was relying on several of Picards personality traits, her covert help and the Reman Viceroy. And in the meantime she enabled some secret construction facilities (ie; Tal Shiar, but a deniable recource) to begin construction of the Scimitar...

Once everything was in place, the Scimitar, Shinzons placement as leader of the Remans, she began part B to her plan, and plotted and carried out the assassination of the High Council (having sidelined her career, it became a pleasant task)...

And so the events of the film began to unfold, until Shinzons instability threw the first couple of wrinkles into the plan. THis was when the little known plan C came into effect. As Sela had planned to ensure that her powerbase would be rebuilt no matter what...

And so she tipped off Donatra and brought her Romulan associates into a position of Neutrality. leaving Donatra to attack Shinzon and either win and gain the trust of the Federation for all, or loose and be destroyed (thus destroying proof of Sela's involvement)...

Now the film closes, and Sela steps up, and claims credit for some of her actions, while disposing of some assets that could embarrase her later (the unfortunate accident involving one particular polititian/assassin is a little convenient, but little is proved, and many Romulans think it fair justice)...

So now Sela sits as one of the senior ranking Tal Shiar officials, and as a hero of the Empire after having saved it from the mad Shinzon, and fakes a veneer of neutrality towards the Federation, while working on increasing her political power and looking for new ways to get revenge against Picard...

Now looking at that re-edit, I sure as hell can get an interesting game of a mixed Federation/Romulan player group slap bang in the middle of whats left over!

Now this is a very interesting idea, Dan! And it is perfectly Nemesis compatible... I think I shall take this as canon in my personal universe. Thanks ! :)

Ditto about using that info as canon (better than what I had by a long shot!), but can you tell me little about Sela Personilty(not history but how to role play)? I'm only familiar with her history but what is she REALLY like? Thanks for any inputs and it's good to see fans of "villians" hasta bananas!

My two slips:

Sela is reasonably well described in the LUG Romulan package.

My best advice would be to run her much the same as you would any other generic Romulan Plotter, but make her more unpredictable. As half-human she should display more intuition and thus break with the Romulan formulae.

She should be able to take advantage of unforseen events, as well as more easily realize when she is being duped.

Have the Crew unexpectedly begun investigating her plot to overthrow the Garraramite government? Sela can improvise and plant evidence that points towards the innocent viceroy and if successful, speed up her plot. Have the Crew keept a cool head and found that the incriminating files were indeed planted and decides to play along to learn mor? Sela may well feel things are going just *too* well and double check to see that her plot has not yet been found out.

And when push comes to shove, you need to decide whether Sela will commit or quit.

If the players start to get edgy when it becomes clear that Sela is involved, my guess is that you've done a good job. They'll be guessing as to wether they can bluff or not. And so will Sela.

I want to play her cold and cunning but that's just plain Romulan. Sela is a "Main" villian and I would like to have her standout from the Romulans because she had to be so cutthroat-like to get to where she is now. She was raised Romulan but I think she MUST have some human flare to her but I can't put my finger on it. Or maybe I'm going about this the wrong way. You all have been very helpful it fleshing this character out for me and I thank you.

Denise Crosby discussed with executive producer Rick Berman the possibility of using her Star Trek: The Next Generation character Sela in the film, but they could not work out a way to properly fit the character into the movie.

Personally I could see her being behind the whole Shinzon plot to begin with. Exp. when you consider when they first introduced her she was in Picard's ready room (?) alone with him. Plenty of DNA to pick up or even a small scanner on her body. Since the plot failed, yes I could see her on some small outpost somewhere in disgrace, or even on a BoP somewhere plotting a way to get back into grace. Heck, with Shinzon killing off the Senete and placing a military one I could even see her trying to pulls strings and taking over.

Question is...it's your game...where do you want her to be and what do you want her to be doing? We can give you plenty of ideas, but in the end you have to make the choice :)
