Which starship design do you prefer?

USS Yeager, testbed for the new FWG-1 warp engine in my Star Trek campaign:

I've said it once, and I'll say it again...Intrepid-class all the way.

I like the one with the ventral nacelle better.
On the upper image the nacelle looks a bit too short for my taste, which could just be a matter of different perspectives between the two images.
Have you tried a straight dorsal nacelle pylon, instead of the one you have now (i.e. "\" shape instead of ">")? That could give this design a more streamlined look.

Sorry, I think you misunderstood.

I was wondering which of my conjectural "kitbashes" you liked best, of the two pictured.

I'm going for a "transition" feel between TOS and TMP tech, hence the TOS primary hull and TMP nacelle.

Of the two you picture, the ventral nacelle is my preference.

Somehow it just looks cleaner.

I have to go for candidate number 2 also. The connection between the Warp Nacelle and the saucer just looks to weak (narrows at the point of connection) and it just doesn't quite sit right that the EPS conduit would have an uneccessary kink in it. Just MHO.

You also should probably add an underslung style Deflector array to the ship, in the style of the Franz Joseph single nacelled ships, so it actually has one!

I'd still prefer 2 nacelles, but that's just me :D

I also prefer the bottom one. The pylon on the top one seems weird to me...

Good point about the nav deflector: it should have one IMO :)

Ventral. The Dorsal design just looks like a big metal detector.

Ventral too. It makes for a nice precursor to the Miranda class BTW (I don't remember the comission date for the Miranda class right now, but with a few tweaks it could be right in the era you're aiming at).

Somebody mentioned that on another forum, and I looked it up.

Sure enough, the similarity was there.

Enough that I'll probably call it a Saladin-Class Refit (Pre-Production Prototype)

I'm on the bandwagon. The 2nd version is better looking. I always liked the Saladin-class. By the way, you could say the navigational deflector was faired into the hull the way it shows on some versions of the Reliant/Miranda class.
