Some doubts about the CODA System

Greets.
I'm Huorë Morisil and have recently joined this forum. I'm about to start a long campaign with this new game system and, though having read the Core Book a couple of times (as well as the Gwaith-i-Mirdain's Compendium, really great, congratulations and thanks for it), I still can't find answers to some questions.

I am reading the book again, so I won't post all the questions (yet), but I really want to know this:

* When using two-handed weapons (greataxes, for example), does it takes two actions to attack? I mean, when using the two-handed attack manoeuvre, it takes two actions, but I couldn't find anything about normal two-handed weapons.

I'll be surely posting more questions in the future, so I would like to thanks all of you for your time now, to save me the work to say that every time I post one.

Where did you see that the two-handed attack maneuver requires 2 actions? My book does not say that. Power Attack does, but not 2-handed. The penalty for 2-handed is the "cannot use shields", isn't it?

this bring up this question for me:

Can a 2-handed power attack be preformed?

Take a look at Decipher's collected rules files at their website. In the Errata it states that 1) "two-weapon" should be "two-handed", and 2) it takes 2 actions.

A two-handed weapon I believe gives automatically a power attack.

I wouldn't run it that way. It's automatically potentially penalizing someone who uses a two-handed weapon rather than a one-handed one. The player should have the option to use a power attack or not.

Okay.

So *Power Attack* is an "all out attack". +2 to be hit and +3 to damage.

Where as a *2-H Attack* is a attack made by 1-handed weapons in a 2-handed grip that gives +2 to the attack and +4 to damage. (disallows shield use)

So a 2-handed weapon could be used to power attack.

So could a person using a 1-handed weapon blow 4 Actions to get a +2 to the attack a+7 to damage and -2 to their defense to do a power-attack-2handed grip?

It's a correction; how could they mention it in the text? The errata happens after the book is printed. :)

I would say no. First, they'd have to have Swift Strike 2 to even attempt 4 actions in a round, unless the Narrator was allowing characters to take multiple actions.

Next, both of these actions are separate things. You could do a power attack then a 2-handed attack, but not both at the same time.

However, there's nothing stopping you from making up a new maneuver that would incorporate both ideas.

Wait, wait a sec... I hadn't look at the errata yet... well... so, does two-handed weapons take two actions to strike or not?
Thats all I want to know... Well, that and which of the errata/collected rullings is the most complete, I have one errata and two collected rullings and they all have things the others don't...

If you're using a two-handed weapon and do a normal attack, it's one action. If you do one of the combat maneuvers, it could cost two actions if the maneuver's cost is two actions.

Then, you could do the "two-handed" combat maneuver... even though you already are using the weapon two-handed?
I must say that I like the idea of the two-handed weapons taking more time to attack, for they are slower the one-handed ones. Does anybody thinks so?

Now, is it me or the book has a hell of a bad organization? The index sucks and things are not found where they are supposed to be found (action movement modifiers per race should have been specified in the race description, I think, took me a long time to find them).

You could, sure. Even though the description for Two-Handed Attack specifies that it's intended for some weapons that only require one hand to use, you could use a two-handed weapon and use that combat maneuver. It would cost 2 actions, though.

I don't think so. The fighting I've done in real life with both small weapons and larger, two-handed weapons didn't show me a great deal of difference in speed of attack. The CODA system doesn't really get into that level of granularity.

A little unorganized perhaps, but it's hard for me to say since I've had the book for over a year and am pretty familiar with it now...

Hey it is light years ahead of the Star Trek Player's Guide. :shudder:

I wouldn't know that... But I know it is light years ahead of MERP, at least in adaptating Tolkien's work, so it is worth the time searching things in it.

Does using a two-handed weapon take two actions? No.

Can you make a Two-Handed Attack with a two-handed weapon? No. But you can power attack.

Can you combine a Two-Handed Attack and a Power Attack when using a one-handed weapon? Nope. They are separate maneuvers.

I have a new question, though is not about the CODA system directly. It might be out of place, but I'd really appreciate any help.
In the game I'm running, I need the players to make a key in order to advance. The problem is, I don't know how to forge a key. I mean, I suppose there should be a mould or sth. Then they should put molten metal into it, let it cool and then polish it. How long would it take if it is like this?

And a CODA doubt, how long does it take to forge a weapon?
