Star Trek Movie Gen Redux
This is the sumamry of the events that leads up to my new campaign set in the pseudo movie gen.
My Alternate Star Trek Campaign Background
Okay let me start off by setting down the changes or major deviations.
Everything up until the last 5 minutes of Star Trek IV is canon. This only includes the 3 seasons of the Original Show and the Movies. At the end of that movie (Trek IV), instead of receiving the Enterprise-A, they receive a ship just called Enterprise, no A.
Also, Transwarp works, but not like on Voyager. It is simply an ability to go faster. Much, much faster (Like Warp 12 and 14 and stuff)
So with the new Enterprise we move forward.

In 2287 Spock's illogical brother Sybok lures the Enterprise to Nimbus 3 and seizes control of her. Using his telepathic abilities he influences the crew except for Kirk, Spock and McCoy to head for the EDGE of the galaxy where he believes they will find the planet Sha-Ka-Ree. At their arrival the landing party is received by a strange being that claims to be God. Kirk figures out rather quickly that this being isn’t God at all, but the now nearly omnipotent Gary Mitchell. Mitchell kills Sybok and begins to toy with Kirk, hunting him all around the planet. As the crew of the Enterprise look on, Elizabeth Dehner appears to them. As advanced as Mitchell, she convinces Spock to use the Enterprise’s sensor dish to create a Genesis type of effect to ends Mitchell’s madness. She distracts Mitchell at the right moment and Kirk is beamed to safety as the “Genesis Wave” is fired. Instead of killing the two, it reforms Sha-Ka-Ree into a paradise and elevates them to almost “god-like” being. Cured of his insanity, Mitchell begs Kirk’s forgiveness and promises to leave the rest of the galaxy alone. He and Elizabeth will instead become the parents of a new race on Sha-Ka-Ree. Kirk agrees and upon reaching home asks that Starfleet quarantine the planet much like Talos IV. They agree. ("Star Trek: The Final Frontier" - Redux)
When the Klingons learn of what happened (with the god beings left out of the official report, but not the Genesis Wave) they use it as proof that the Federation was developing a Doomsday Weapon and that Kirk is head of the project, just as they had maintained all along. Their ambassadors leave Earth and all diplomatic ties are severed.
The Klingons send one last request, demanding that all data on Project Genesis be turned over to them along with Captain Kirk. The UFP refuses and the Klingons declare war.
The war rages for about 18 months, with neither side gaining an upper hand. Both sides settle in for what looks to be a prolonged conflict. Sulu is promoted to Captain of the USS Excelsior. Then in mid 2289 something unexpected happens. Praxis, a moon of the Klingon home-world Klinzhai, explodes. The explosion kills 2/3rds of the planet’s population and the vast majority of the Klingon High Command and High Council. Only Chancellor Gorkon, who was not on planet at the time, survives. It would later be learned that the explosion was caused by attempts to duplicate the Genesis wave.
Thrust into power, Gorkon sues for peace with the Federation, something the UFP readily accepts.
Gorkon’s ship the Qo'noS 1 rendezvous with the Enterprise (arranged by Captain Spock) and after a tense dinner it appears that the Enterprise fires on Gorkon’s ship and then beams over assassins to kill the Chancellor.
Kirk and McCoy beam over to help but are taken prisoner and spirited across the Neutral Zone. As the UFP tries every diplomatic option available to it, Admiral Cartwright of Starfleet proposes “Operation Retrieve”. A military strike into the heart of Klingon territory to rescue Kirk and McCoy. The Romulan ambassador assures the President of the UFP that his government will not interfere in such a mission. The President declines, unaware of the actions he is setting into motion.
On the Klingon side the newly appointed Chancellor, Gorkon’s Daughter, Azetbur is being pressured to launch a surprise attack along the Federation border, taking by force what the Federation proposes to share. She too demurs, in favour of trying Kirk and McCoy. She to is unaware of the events she has set in motion.
Meanwhile Captain Spock, now in command of the Enterprise, disobeys a direct Starfleet order to return to port and continues to investigate the attack on Gorkon. Spock determines that the torpedo shot did not come from Enterprise, but instead a vessel that must have been capable of firing while cloaked.
The USS Excelsior, meanwhile, is given orders to find the Enterprise and return her to port. Captain Sulu complies and begins searching for the Enterprise.
Kirk and McCoy are tried and convicted of Murder and Conspiracy by the Klingon equivalent of a “Kangaroo court”. They are then transferred to an unknown prison to serve out their life sentences.
Going undercover on Rigel X, Commanders Chekov and Uhuru learn from Orion Syndicate sources that Kirk and McCoy have be sent to the prison planet of Rura Pente. They arrange for a message to be sent to Kirk that help is on the way.
On Rura Pente, Kirk and McCoy find a hard life awaits them. The mining planet is an artic wasteland and they don’t expect they will live very long. They are befriended by a Chameloid who helps them learn the ropes. Once Kirk receives the message about a possible rescue from a newly arrived Orion pirate who is soon found dead, he begins to plan his escape.
Meanwhile the Excelsior discovers the Enterprise and after delivering Starfleet’s order to return, Captain Sulu offers the services of his ship. Spock asks him to use the Excelsior as a decoy, luring Klingon border patrols after it as he slips the Enterprise past to get to Rura Pente. Sulu agrees and the chase is on.
Back on the Rura Pente, Kirk and McCoy are assisted by the Chameloid in their escape and soon find themselves outside the prison’s deflector shield grid. There the Chameloid reveals that she is part of the conspiracy and that she was offered her freedom to lure Kirk and McCoy to this point so they could be killed while trying to escape. The Chameloid is killed by the Klingon guards, who are just about to reveal to Kirk and McCoy the names of the conspirators when they are beamed up to the Enterprise.
The Enterprise makes top speed back to Federation space. After discovering the dead bodies of Gorkon’s assassins, both Starfleet enlisted, Spock and Kirk set up a trap for their killer. Spock is astonished to see the killer is his protégé Valeris. Using a rather unpleasant Mind Meld, Spock learns of the conspiracy within the Starfleet, the Klingon Empire and the Romulan Empire to assassinate the President of the UFP at the Khitomer Peace Conference.
Notifying the Excelsior to rendezvous with them there, the Enterprise makes top speed to Khitomer. Once in system they are attacked by General Chang and his cloaked Bird of Prey. Excelsior’s arrival only allows him an extra target. Desperate and at risk of failing, Spock and McCoy modify a torpedo to lock onto the Bird of Prey’s Impulse “exhaust” or Icon trail. Once they are able to, they target the explosion and the Enterprise and Excelsior destroy the Bird of Prey utterly.
Beaming down to the conference, Kirk manages to tackle the President out of the way of an assassins shot, while the command crews of the Enterprise and Excelsior apprehend the Klingon, Romulan and Starfleet conspirators.
Hailed as heroes, the two crews are decorated with the Starfleet Medal of Honor and Kirk and McCoy are exonerated by Chancelor Azetbur. The Khitomer Accords are signed and the first real shot at peace seems near. ("Star Trek: The Undiscovered Country" - Redux)
Captain Kirk finally retires from Starfleet and is recruited by the Chal government to head their defense fleet. While the incident is classified, what is know is that the decommissioned USS Enterprise (Donated by Star Fleet to the Chal government) is destroyed as well as the traitorous Commander Star Fleet; Admiral Androvar Drake ("Star Trek: Ashes of Eden").
Shamed by this second case of corruption within Star Fleet in the same year, the Federation president reactivates James Kirk at the rank of Admiral and orders him to become the new Commander Star Fleet. Kirk agrees, but requests a short vacation first to prepare himself.
Captain Spock retires his commission and joins the Federation Diplomatic Corps.
While on route to Earth to assume his position as Commander Star Fleet, Admiral Kirk’s shuttle fails to check in at Epsilon XII. A massive search of nearly 60 ships fails to turn up a trace. Admiral Kirk is reluctantly listed as Missing. Retiring from Starfleet, Scotty embarks the U.S.S. Jenolan to continue the search for Admiral Kirk.
Admiral Robert Wesley is chosen over Admiral Lawrence Styles as the new Commander Star Fleet. Wesley’s address to the Fleet (Broadcast on the Federation News Net) praises the ideals of Admiral Kirk and proclaims that “from this day forward there will always be a USS Enterprise and she will always be the Flagship of the Federation.”

Now I will cherry-pick what I want from TNG, DS9, Enterprise, Voyager, etc and use it as my campaign adventures, plus whatever original stuff I can think up.
Comments welcome, though I know this won't be everyone's cup of tea.
