That's a pretty nice list. Looks like y'all are starting with a fairly ocmplete on-screen reference, an approach I can definitely get behind. Do original stuff later.

Q for anyone who's seen it - are the ships pictures (not the photos, but the line drawings) still like those in the NG - fairly dark lines on a black background? Man, I hope not since those are difficult to see.

I'm still really looking forward to this book.

I like the fact that I'll have plenty of 24th Century ships to tweak. :) And I'll be able to rework most of the TOS designs, too. :D

Looks good .Too bad there's no Miranda or Constellation though(or any of the medium to light cruisers and frigates).I guess I'll have to use some of those cool rules to build my own.

I'm with ya, but the miranda and Constellation should be in the Starfleet Ops Manual, which comes out before Starships. I just don't know if they are going to be made with NG Rules, or "Starships" Rules... :)

I never got into the whole build-your-own ship stuff, so I'm glad to see most of the major classes in there. Thanks for posting the info, Don! :)

The Miranda is in the Starfleet Ops Manual. :)

The rules from the NG. Those that appear in both books (Ops and Starships) are updated to reflect the new rules in Starships.

The Constellation was done but was cut, sadly. :( It was a nice write-up.

I mean the rules for the Borg are, according to Dec Staff, along way off and 3 of their ships are included.

Already have. Well almost. :D I was just looking forward to seeing more of the RSN displayed like the ships in the NG. Speaking of which isn't the D'deridex-class in the NG? Yup, just checked, so why the repeat?

I'm trying to think of another Romulan ship that appeared onscreen, and I can't.

With the exception of the four listed below, every other ship listed was onscreen, so they're covering canon material before moving on. I do think they should have included the Kazon cruiser, but -- oh well, it's only the first book (hopefully).

Don't remember the Raptor-class being mentioned. Besides from the list above I count at least 7 ships that are duplicated in this new book and the NG. Plenty of space for new designs all around.

Is Dec under lic. to use only on screen ships? If so then this will be the only vol.

For some reason we wound up with a write-up for the Constellation but without art, and we didn't find this out until it was too late to contract the design art for it. It will appear in a future supplement.

WOuldn't ya know that the only game that I haven't run a Nova on is now, and it's a Constellation. Don't I just have the worst luck!? :( ;) :D :p

The Raptor is from Enterprise.

Decipher isn't using only on-screen ships because there's one non-canon vessel in the NG (the Herbert), and four in 'Starships'.

Personally I'm really looking forward to this book. Thanks Don, for giving us a preview of the contents.

As long as more Romulan vessels are on the way, I can wait.

Same here, looks like I picked the least liked Cardassian ship there was: most of my games happen on a Hideki ...

Oh well, I'll just try to mix a Brell with a Theta and see what comes out.

Cudos to Doug and Don for the Starships and Ops manual info.It's going to be interesting to see if the Akira is a fighter carrier(as mentioned in the Starship Spotter).I'll be glad to see the Saber.Its the ship I'll be assigning to my crew after I blow up their freighter.I wanted to use a Decipher-published ship so my players could go out and buy the book and have thir own reference material.Will the Ops Manual have UFP attack fighters?

Thanks for the info on the Aerie and tanker Doug. I actually figured those were canon ships. I just couldn't conjure which visuals to attach them to. :) Cool, I really like the idea of a small crew on an Aerie (Voy ep. "The Raven") for those of you who might be curious).

I think that the selection of ships is excellent. It is a very good cross-representation of ships from various power, of various sizes and eras.

Again, the CODA ship system SHOULD NOT be viewed at through a wargamer's lenses. Tons of different ships don't really work since there aren't many degrees of differentiation between various ships. To take the Romulan example, you have the D'deridex representing a large ship, matching the Galaxy, Sovereign, Vor'Cha, etc. Then you have the Theta (?) which is basically your small size-3 vessel. Then throw 2 or 3 "in-between" ships filling the light-cruiser and heavy-cruiser niches and you have you should have a good selection of ships that cover most situations. Of course, the Starship book has many more rules and systems so surely the level of differentiation between ships will be greater.

Also, I don't want to second-guess the good folks at DEC but I think that part of the theme in the selection of ships is to give us templates to work from for designing ships. For instance, if you picture the Steamrunner as a cross between an Akira and an Intrepid then you'll be able to stat it out from the two given templates.
