ROCKS!!!
KW - you are a saint amongst men.
yeah and that's the most important jonA this books is great
my dear KW I think we'll find several minutes to share our point of view tonight in french
because all of that is just a great misunderstanding that should never have taken place here
and I apologize for all the ones who need REAL explanations about KW rules
nevertheless I think this little exchange of points of view between a GM and a player is interesting for everyone.
and if we go on playing trekrpg with KW since 7 season and 5 years of game it 's because this guy is listening his players arguments and we discuss together about rules or campaign leading
and even if sometimes our points of view are quite different we always found a compromise
and sorry for the ones that think that my poor character will be surrounded by all the borg and jem'hadar the galaxy counts in the next episode because it's not the KW way of mastering
because you who think that is only a great rules writer i think that's because he is at first a great GM and only me can say that here.
:)
ps: KW we haven't finish about that refit you know that my friend :D
Anyone having problems printing out page 88 (Atlas Class Tug)?
I can't seem to print this one page!
Nope - prints fine for me!
Oh and Loryk - invasion Cancelled - I was joking :P
KW Imust say this, you dit a great job, your book contains much more information for starships than thedecipher Starship book and Narrator's guide combined. Your book is the best!!!!
I'm looking forward to the updates you will post.
There are a few new edges (or systems) and actions not covered in your book that my gaming group is asking about, and I have no idea how to create them. Can you help me out here?
Action:
-Masking a Warp trail
-Using Probes
Edges or Systems:
-Bio-Neural Computer(the computer rules do not cover this system very well)
-Neurogenic Interfase (See Voyager episodes: Alice, End game)
-Voyager's Torpedoes and Shield(Armor) in the Episode End Game
Yes a probes guide would be useful. though as a quick rule of thumb, I would say that you can simply launch a probe and it's bonus modifyer equalled your standard sensors modifier -1
it's also not explained how probes are launched in the pre-multifuction torpedo tube days - just that you can do it in that era, but they did have probes. I would suggest that ships not using a multifunction torpedo launcher tube can't fire probes at warp (I.e. only propell them within a solar system, not at high warp to another etc) But of course you could simply deposit the probe and move away, and still recieve the sensor data from it (up to about 14-17 lightyears which is the usual max for sensors)
With regards to a Bio Gel pack - there doesn't really seem to be much of an advantage to it as the Intrepid classs doesn't have a specific advantage from them - it's just something that starships from that era have which makes their systems 'better' - you could just purchase an 'enhanced system' - and attrribute it to Bio Gell packs being there..
With regards to the transphasic torpedoes and the ablative armour generators - the transphasic torpedoes are relativwelly easy to answer - just use the ruling for the Chroniton Torpedoes - basically they can pass through conventional shielding (including a Borg ship) - ignoring threshold. if you wanted them to be extra 'lethal' you could just simply say that they can have double effect when hitting a critical (x2) - The Shielding could simply have a modified 'blind luck' Edge - and have immunity to weapons (or maybe a double strength threshold or defense) - that way it is extremelly resiliant to damage - untill that fateful time you roll doubles and your enemy finds a way in to your shields!
Neurogenic interface - you would probably add an artificial inteligence subsystem - and the rest is down to roleplaying! If you wanted to have a 'mad' AI like in the episode Alice - then just rollplay her that way, giving her an oposed willpower test with the PC in question to see who comes out on top (maybe stack her Willpower if you want them to succumb! :D
I would have to look up KW's book to approximate masking a warp trail - but probably it would be an Oposed Stsrems operations (cloaking systems) roll with your enemy? maybe?
Thanks Tobian for your insights on those mathers.
But what I really wanted to know abaut the Neurogenic interface is: what pilot bonuses this system gives? Because you are piloting the ship and all its systems with your mind (see episode Endgame) , so it must be much easyer.
Do you have also an idea on the game stasts for the following Systems:
-Pathfinder communication system
-Astrometrics lab that Seven of nine and Kim created.
The problem with dealing with that sort of technology is of course that it's 'future tech' and should only really be used in the context of a plot device, and not for main characters in your core game.
It's fairly hard to say what would be the benifit for such an interface in terms of game mechanics. I would probably allow a bonus of say +3 (or 5?) on your initiative - you can react quicker, rather than bonuses on your actual skills - because it's still the same skills, you are just able to do them quicker - and in game combat who gets to act first can be the MOST important thing!
I would also say that if such a system was being used on the bridge of a starship then it would also impose a negative effect on the other characters - because your mind is in the computer! I also think that any 'exploding console' rolls - should automatically come back to that character, and be doubled! (point in case when Captain Crais was connected to talon he got feedback from it. - and in that example the creature also inflicted pain on it's controller if it didn't get it's own way!)
The pathfinder system is not really a specific piece of technology. The technical specifications were to vreate a geodesic fold in the corronosphere of a reg giant star, by using a concentrated verteron beam. This then acted as a wormhole like conduit, through which regular communicatioins could be sent. So in essence all you need to have is the regular communications of your ship to recieve it! If you wanted to create such an effect I would call it an edge (Geodesic fold ) and it gives you a bonus (+5) to creating such an effect by using either a dedicated array or a specially modified deflector array (that's what the Bonus is!) I would set the difficulty of such a task to be at least a 20 or 25 - depending on a plot driven effect (such as the cyclic nature of the star as seen in 'pathfinder') - and hey if people wanted too they could buy this edge multiple times - to make it easier (something like the MIDAS array might have this) - Without the edge you could try, but risk buring out your deflector array (nasty!) The skill associated with it would be space sciences (astrogation or stellar pheonomenon) to pinpoint and allign the two stars together properly, and if you were performing this manouver without the neccessary edge it would be a Systems engineering (Deflector array or communications) TN15 - to get the deflector array working in the first place (risking burnout!)
The Astrometrics lab need only be explained by an (enhanced system) Sensors - which increases the bonus and range for a sensor system.. which it is in the book.
Thanks again for your view on these questions.
But I have more questions(I know that some of these questions do not belong here but they are part of a starship systems):
-What bonus does the bio-bed (in sickbay) gives?
-Does the Tricorder or bio-bed give also his bonus on Medecine tests(diagnosis)?
-Using a Tricorder gives a +5 on your First Aid skill. But does using a medical tricorder give you a +7(I presume: normal bonus of +5 plus a +2 from optimized Tricorder)?
I hope you can help me on these questions, i'm asking this
because i'm thincking of constructing a Medical manual.
I,m going to post this on the Coda systems & Mechanics, so that I can get some help from other people. This way it will go much faster, and maybe there are already some house rules that some NG have constructed.
I think the Tricorder should give a bonus for Diagnosis - BUT only if your disease is in it's database. So an unknown disease can't be diagnosed - because mostly a Tricorder is just a sophisticated database. It can tell you it's closest neightbor, which would be a start on working out how it works. Same goes for the medical BIOBED. Which i would also say would give you a +2 on your surgery rolls, because it provides uatomated support and a sterile environment.
not sure about the +5 bonus. I would probably say not, unless you optomised it because i would automatically assume a character was using the right type of Tricorder for his use anyway.
I'd be certainly interested in seeing your medical manual when you have it done.
Thanks for your reply Tobian.
I've just started constucting the Medical Manual. I hope if all goes well it will be finished in February.
These are some of the things I want to cover in the Manual.
-Fractures + Bleeding(Expansion of the Health system)
-Cardiac Arest
-Cerebral Vasculair accidents
-Surgery
-Healing Unknow Diseases
-New Equipment
I will post regulary to see what you guys think of it.

here's an excelent site from someone with a slight Julian bashir fixation :D should help.
KW,
Glad to see that you have done it. I just downloaded it myself because of my lack of Trek interest. I hope to give it a good read through tonight. :)
KW, Just read thru the Thank Yous page and noticed the mention. Thanks.:D
This book Rocks
Unfortunatly i have to print it out slowly ( a few Pages at a time)
KW, great book.
I like it very much.
Maybe you should work for Decipher :D .
