I'm working on the saucer hull plates right now in Campaign Cartographer 2, believe it or not. Then I'll take it into photoshop, do a little blur on it, set the layer to 54% transparent on a grey background, and export it as a JPG. :)
That's basically how I did the hull plates on top of Operations, though I did it all in photoshop. Since the saucer requires curved sections of hull plate, I had to use something more flexible in terms of curvature, and CC2 was the best thing I had at my fingertips.
I made up a texture for the sensor domes, but I'm not pleased with it at all. The way it wraps the texture around it isn't fun.
If everything keeps going like it has this week, I could be finished with this in a week, perhaps two.

Keep bringing on the in-progress shots. I'm enjoying it come together.

Here is an image of the textured saucer. One word: Unhappy. I need to make that texture larger so the patterns are more crisp.
Here is a close-up of Ops with some minor modifications. I think that in my tinkering I've messed up the lighting on it and will have to play around with it a little more in that department.

Go here and talk to the guiys and dolls :)

There are some excellent modelers over there and they are very helpful to new bloods :)
Great work BTW :)

Thanks for the tip, Aslan. I'll go check them out.
I do have good news. The Saucer texture is much better. I changed the CC2 source file from 720 pixels to 1280, took out the slight blur post-source, and it has improved greatly. I've even got my starfield up and working (though the render times are doubled - you won't see many more 'in progress' shots with stars. :)
Here is a closer images of Ops with Stars, etc. I am not sure if I like the 'up-light' on the antenna arrays, I'm still deciding on that one.

I have absolutely no 3-d skill, but from what i see at www.3dgladiators.com and www.scifi-meshes.com , your design is shaping up pretty well.
Oh, a side note: www.scifi-art.com recently came back up (albeit less than it had original)
