I am letting them read everything I have on ST:RPG-LUG now.
Not including my Net-Books. Here is hoping they are intreged by the system. Or the possibilites that lay within. However, I did state this to them:
1)One of you must be a Starfleet Officer
2)You are limited to Starfleet Personnel and or Federation Personnel

Hmmm ... from one Star Trek fan to another ...
Why are you even considering the idea?
I mean I agree, sometimes one group does not feel like playing Star Trek, or will never be interested in that kind of game...
Perhaps you should put an ad in your local RPG shot (which is what I did) and start a new group, who is interested with the feel and ideas of Star Trek Universe, this has worked for me :)
Kind Regards

Perhaps you are going about it the wrong way. While I tend to find that running a game too far outside of Starfleet rapidly falls apart becuase there simply isnt enough precedent and source material, there is the possibility to allow players to not be Starfleet officers. A Frontier setting is a good place for that. The current campaign I am running has about a 50 / 50 mix of Starfleet / non Starfleet. What i said from the outset was that though they could be anything they wanted too, any Class, any race. The only prerequisite was that the players were going to be working FOR starfleet and could not make a character that was openly hostile to Starfleet. So far its worked - fingers crossed hehe!
