ICON Species Database Weekly Posts

Good news! Shortly after moving I accepted a new job which cut into my personal time considerably, thus the reason for the lack of progress. The job was an oportunity I could not pass up, the draw back was having to work the overnight shift.

Well, it's paid off! Being promoted into a day management position. Expecting to move into the new position within the next two weeks. Once done the free time I once had will be mine again! Weekly datasheet posts and daily visits to the boards (as was my old habit) should be doable once again! I can't wait. :D

Just letting you all know more are coming. . .working on two (from scratch, lots of math and research) by request. I hope to have at least one ready for release this weekend, two if possible.

I did find a minor typo in your 'Star Distant Project' Tholia to Terra "2.31.2", I take it it should read 231.2. Other that that, how are you getting those distances?

I'm going to redo the Star Distance Project in another format. I can't get it to work the way I want on Quatro.

The distances are the result of a little math. I don't have time now to post the equation on my lunch hour, but I will do so after work.

Okay the equation is:

A is planet one and B is planet two. The letters X, Y and Z are the axis coordinates of the two planets.

Take the square root of: (Ax-Bx rasied to the second power)+(Ay-By raised to the second power)+(Az-Bz raised to the second power).

Redwood I know the formula. How are you coming up with the X, Y, Z coordinates?

I have posted one revised and one new datasheet to the first post of this topic. I have done a little tweek of the Aurelian sheet. Please discard the previous one in favor of this one.

Perhaps some may find the new datasheet of some use, not sure why it was not released at the start of the project. I've checked everything and cannot find any errors. I can only assume I withheld it due to Star Trek: Enterprise and the possible revelation of more details about them. Anyway, I've done a little upgrade and if anyone has a sneak peak version of this datasheet should discard it in favor of this one.

The new layout (and corrected typo) Star Distance Project will be out shortly as well. Next week I will start taking down the previous weeks files and submit them to the archive. I want to make sure everyone has a chance to grab them before they are submitted as I am unsure how much time will pass between submitting them and their being available again.

Question on your Tholian. Why didn't you use the recent version?

Haven't forgotten, just been really busy this last week--and not sure this week is going to be much better.

When I can spare the time I'm working on: updating the Andorian sheet (the Aenar patch to the Andorian Template I finished tonight), and after much comment about my picture choice for the Tholians I've updated that sheet with one of the new Tholians. Release of both will be as soon as I can finish up the Andorian sheet. Worth the wait, I think. :D

Okay, finally got things done this evening. The Andorain sheet is a little different than previous--I have limited datasheets to two pages, but with so much vital information it was just impossible to keep it limited in length. [I have to say I have really never favored one ST race over another, but I now have to pick the Andorians as the coolest. Time for me to come up with a new character to play!]

The Tholian datasheet is updated with the new image of Tholians from ST: ENT and is otherwise the same document.

One thought on this you might want to consider: give yourself some breathing room and go with "ICON Species Database Monthly Posts". I mean we're all here to have fun, and weekly deadlines are too much like work.

I agree with Phoenix its your Hobby not your job, while we all enjoy the work you submit here, were not a gaming company that wants to release a Species handbook for ICON. Just take your time. We're patient.:) :)

Okay, I survived my business trip but have been dealing with the affects of hearing about the peanut butter recall after having eaten some of the peanut butter. :o

Been very tired, but have slowly been returning to working on the database. I hope to have something to post soon.

Don't ya hate it when you spend a couple days on a datasheet and get it all wrapped up and all you have left to do is plot the star system's locataion on the little map you've been making. . .and you realize you've used the wrong star? :eek:

Okay, so we have LUG's Romulan box set. Would anyone be interested in a datasheet of the Romulan's based on Diane Duane's Rihannsu?

Okay, three weeks since I started working on this. . .but it is progressing! (I needed to read some of The Romulan Way again as it has been awhile.) I've actually got three in the works: Romulan sheet, Reman sheet and a Romii sheet. :cool:

Okay, my knees are sore, my back aches and I have a little sunburn but the yard work is done for the weekend and the "garden" is in place.

The Romulan sheet is 99.9% done. Just needs another proof reading and a few minor tweeks and it will be done and hopefully available by tomorrow afternoon. The Reman sheet is three-quarters done and I could have it out this weekend I hope. The Romii sheet is coming along much slower (and I still need to find a screen cap of the critter I intend to use for it's dominate species--may need to cap that myself). I've also found a couple of Romulan ships I'd like to write up for LUG and Spacedock once I have at least the Romulan and Reman sheets done.

Capt. Lundgren is helping me by setting up the archive again and allowing me to post new sheets to it myself without having to pester him all the time. I really, really, really hope to be able to start putting out two datasheets a month (more if possible).

But for now, it's off to bed so I can not be a total zombie at work tonight.

Okay, the Romulan sheet is posted to the first post of this thread.

I've tried melding what we've seen in shows with ICON and Diane Duane's Rihannsu. With any luck I've gotten something together somewhat usable.

I'm very tired, so I may have missed something in editing. See any typos or ideas that don't mesh/work please point them out.

Sorry, everyone. I shouldn't proof read when tired. I've had to correct the Romulan sheet as the origianl sheet did not have the ICON Template as the copyright stated.

It does now and the Traits have been listed in the originally intended Option Trait Patch, and thus the reason for the updated sheet. :o

I think the optional traits bring the Romulans a little closer to the Diane Duane's Rihannsu.

Is there any chance we can get Tauren's? Or draenei

I guess I could see what I could come up with. I'm not familiar with either of these, other than the sources you provided. Is this something you want integrated into the Star Trek setting or the setting provided by the sources listed? I'd need to know how they fit into your game/Star Trek setting.

And how soon would you be needing these? I have the next several datasheets laid out (a few are just editing stuff needing to be done):

Romulans (done and released)
Remans (completing, and releasing today)
Romii (newly added to the list of species to do. . .nothing on paper, just some ideas floating around in my head)
Klingons (I figured why not)
Vulcans (a proof and touch up, if needed to make thinks conform to the Romulan sheet in case of contradictions)
Andorians (making it a stand alone sheet)
Aenar (separating them from the released Andorians sheet)
Tellarite (a proof since, well, idk)
Draylax (well, because the females have three. . . :D )

I could see when I could fit this request in.

No really, the romulan looks great. I do have a question for you: are you planning on doing any work on non-cannon Trek species (I think there's enough information to build on the Kzin from TAS)?

I have a list of species that have been mentioned or appear, and pictures of unknown species that have appeared in TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY and ENT.

I've not given much thought to TAS as I'm unfimilar with it. I remember seeing it once or twice as a kid on the Nickelodian Network, and I downloaded the Spock goes back in time show one a few years ago. That is the limit of my experience. Is there a star associated with the Kzin? I'll need to do some research to get something out, but I can see what I can come up with for you.

Oh, and I have posted the Reman sheet to the first post of this thread.

As for the Kzin (or Kzinti) they origionally appiered in Niven's "Known Space" series (Ringworld, Man-Kzin Wars). Their cononisity is questionable at best (leagle issues). In my opinion, DS9's Tzenkethi reference is a nod to Niven's work.

Hrm, interesting. I can understand peoples interest in these Kzinti. I'll add them to the list and see what I can come up with.

As for the Romii, this is all we know. Some friends were asking about them while looking at the stuff I had laying around for the Romulan/Reman sheets. Got a few ideas bouncing around my head for them so I thought why not, and it never hurts to have more people for the Romulans to push around.

Romii being a simple Romulan colony world is another idea.

As far as other people for the Romulans to push around as you say, the "Way of D'era" has 13 species mentioned as being clients or are soon to be (though one of them are trumped by "ST: Nemesis"). There also seems to be a species mentioned called Garidians.

Well, 'Reman' could be the Romulan name given to the Zelvorians, who're never really described.

Watch a future issue of BTFF for an article on Romulan client species.

I think my wanting to do the Romii is the fact that it is the closest system to the Romulan's home system. I was kind of heartbroken when The Way of D'era didn't mention it as a stand alone system. If I remember right, TWOD has Romii as the native name for Remus used by the Zelvorians.

Are the Garidians from TWOD? I don't recall them.

I kind of thought as the Remans/Zelvorians as being the same myself. I'm looking forward to the Romulan Client Species Article in BTFF. I find the topic very interesting, even more so since researching the Romulans/Remans.

No the Garidians are from a TNG era video game called "A Final Unity". From what I can tell that is their only apperance.

Okay, still working on this stuff. Just been a little busy with work and what not. It's hard to work in the transportation industry when major roadways and bridges are closed due to flooding. :p

I've been tinkering with consolidating my source material I use to make the datasheets. Finally found a format I like. And I've been researching (with little luck, I might add) the Miradorn. Trying to find a star system I could use for them near the Bajoran system as apparantly they are from nearby. Not much luck yet.
