Sector Arrangement

Here's my rationale for Sol being in Sector 001...

Current astronomical estimates place Sol at 25000 ly from the Core (almost exactly half way between Core and Rim), and 20 ly up from the Galactic Ecliptic. The Alpha/Beta border is explicitly drawn as a vertical plane through Sol.

Sector 000 has at its centre the intersection of the Galactic Ecliptic, the Alpha/Beta border, and the halfway point between Core and Rim.

Sectors are generally a cube 20 ly on a side. This conveniently places Sol at the centre of a sector immediately "above," or to Zenith, of Sector 000. That sector is designated 001, or Sol Sector.

And the last time you said that I agreed in theory!

Just that it would have alot of sectors which are split in half due to the alpha/beta border line.

To me it seems more logical to have Sol on the borderline but also on the edge of ssector 001.

As demonstrated by my map, but in all things your mileage may vary!

well, I was just following some authoritative source or other. If I were to decide from scratch, I'd have Sol at the center of an eight- sector cube.

Proberly scaled by the double size sectors from DS9 TM.

The more I work on the 2nd map the more I think the big 20000 sectors can't be right or atleast in reference to Cardassia and the DMZ, considering DS9 puts it in the area of the station.

Thats like a 1000 ly gap, I'm not saying Carddies space doesn't go out that far but the DW stuff seems to contridict this info and make them no more then 150 x 60 ly roughly!

Ideas?
