I enjoy a good political debate with fellow Star Trek fans, but when I'm in that mood I go to the Trek Nation site which has a section just for that sort of thing.
I respect Don's decision to leave that stuff out of the TrekBBS.
Having said that I have to say that leaving the site because someone was mean to you over the internet seems somewhat childish. There are people that use the anonymity of the net to be rude. That is also childish.
The thing is that leaving the site where you have people who enjoy discussing trek with you because someone was rude to you in a thread you did not have to even read...
Enough said.

So since I come here no more, I am childish and ridiculous ? No, I will come here no more bacause of above beliefs.Quote:

I have to apologize -- I didn't peek in and read this thread until now. (My time requires me to be selective in what threads I read and participate in.) With that said, I appreciate all the comments and will continue to review opinions posted here.
Thanks.

While in my opinion it seems a little extreme to depart because of the opinion of one or two people in a community with so many act, if you do want your account terminated I believe Don is the proper person to contact.
We all come here to talk Trek and Role Playing Games. Our common interest brings us together. Talking about one subject usually leads to another. We also over time like in some form the people we talk with, their opinion, or just intellectually spar with them. No doubt subjects of a more real a serious nature will come up. People have a choice to enter which conversation they choose. If a post is to offensive or causes a complaint that should be handled by the Moderators and the poster and post dealt with appropriately.
I have enjoyed discussing politics and other general threads here because we originally all came here for Trek and RPGs. Over time I began to like many here and valued their opinion.
This has just been my reasoned argument for judgement to allow political discussion back to this board. No gripes or complaint.
How did I ever end up as minion #32?
Of course the person to go after is Phantom the number one minion...
My post was not directed at you; it was a general statement. And I stand by what I said; leaving a forum because of one section which has material you don't want to see is ridiculous. You have the choice sitting at your computer whether or not you click the thread.Quote:

It is your choice whether you unsubcribe. But leaving because of comments people made is also silly. Simply kill-file me and the other person who made the comment and continue to exchange ideas with the other board members. You don't have to endure my presence or even listen to me.
My views are my own and I won't change them to accomodate others...tough.
I miss the political threads... I had the opportunity to learn a lot about foreign mindsets and begin to understand the view of the world people had in other countries than mine.
I'm glad the political threads are gone... recently they had become critical, with a couple of new threads per day, with the same posters chiming in, the same arguments being rehashed, and the same epithets soon starting to fly (some of them originated by me BTW - for wich I now apologize).
It's interesting to have a political discussion from time to time, to share our different points of view and discuss some political events. This however is nice as an aside to other, more Trek and RPG related discussions, not as the main subject of the board, since, as has been pointed out, there are other boards for that.
And it's also important to remember that the main goal for such a discussion (at least, in my eyes), is not to convince the others that you are right, or to hurl epithets or fast judgements at them, but to make them understand why you think so (even though they still won't share your opinion afterwards). Something difficult to do where the subject at hand strikes home for at least one of the parties, and also, let's say it, when the conception of a debate for some of the posters involved is to hurl expeditives at the others and belittle their opinions until they agree.
This being said, I'll be glad to join the political threads again once they re open, provided of course it happens some time from now - especially long enough after the current war to make it a less burning topic (and to avoid full threads of "We told you so" from either side wich will happen to be right).
Now, let's discuss of the quality of Enterprise and Nemesis. This is not controversial at all :D
