Great work guys. It makes me want to bring some of my off the wall adventures to the table, but of course, much like when I run them, I suspect no one would have a clue what was going on :)
Great adventure, Doug! Was this one of the Deciphercon adventures or a never-before-released one?Quote:

Thanks, Karg. The lion's share of the credit definitely goes to Don. He took a poorly slapped-together adventure I'd run for our gaming group and turned it into something not only playable, but suitable for convention play... :)
Well on the basis of this one, I'm very much looking forward to the remaining adventures.
Bring 'em on Decipher. :)
Glad you like it. :) Yeah, it was put together for GenCon2002 and was used at DecipherCon that same year (run by yours truly).Quote:

Conisdering the adventure was originally written for the Intrepid-class USS Blackthorne, that should (hopefully) be a fairly simple adaptation... :)Quote:

I'd say there's only one possible flaw with the adventure.
It mentions pregenerated characters in the back, but gives the impression that they are possible PCs, not the main NPCs.
That's the only problem.
Very true :) I am setting it post Dominion War though. ;)Quote:

Well, for the conventions, we provided the full command staff of the Blacklthorne (all that weren't PCs from my game at the time, of course, though those were replaced with new characters) to be used as PCs by the demo players. Unfortunately, these were not included in the actual text of the adventure...Quote:

Simplicity itself. Just push the date back as needed and have the mission be a normal survey of the Styx Rift, even removing the Task Force from the adventure, if you want to. :)Quote:

(Although, thinking back on it, one of my most subtle connections/inside references with the shows was included in the Task Force...)
Actually, the Intrepid will be heading up a small survey fleet. So it works fine. :)
I have a demo to ran at the end of April. the demo must not exceed four hours plays.
Can this adventure be played in that time ? if not, what kind of change I have to made for that ?
Yes. In fact, that's the kind of demo it was used for previously.Quote:

I have no doubt we will. :)
It have also seen a reference to a map or graphic of illustration of some sort.Quote:

Doug, is there any chance you could post the PCs and illustrations here?
I'll see what i can do, MC. :)Quote:

So, to reassure everyone that they mean business, they publish an incomplete e-document... That's not too reassuring, is it?
While the sample PCs aren't of any real use to me (CODA characters don't back-convert to ICON all that well), the maps would be handy.
The maps were never included with the adventure; they're not necessary to run.
The maps were used in Doug's private game only. Cut Decipher some slack.
What Don said. And, to be honest, there were only two maps. One of the Rift and one showing the patrol routes taken by the various ships of the task force.Quote:

In fact, here are the maps. They're not much, really, just a handy aid when running the adventure in my own game (more of a "pointer slapping the projection" kind of thing than naything else). :)
I'll see if I can get the sample charatcers typed up in a presentable format any time soon...
I have all the characters in form version, I believe.Quote:

If the maps weren't part of the tournament package, then there's no problem there. On the other tentacle, the sample characters are refered to in the actual .PDF. Either this notation should have been edited out, or a notation placed with the link that they were not being included with the .PDF document.
I know that some people are of the opinion that I may not have a right to an opinion because I'm still using ICON and haven't switched over to CODA. However, I have been waiting for some of the sourcebooks like the Klingon book to come out, since much of the material is not rules-based, and being written by the old LUG team should be consistent with the background developed for the ICON version. Sadly, none of this material has yet been released, I see no sign that it will be, aside from a note from one of the illustrators that he's received an acceptance notice. The failure to make any announcements at GAMA, one of the most important trade shows in the industry, seems to indicate an unacceptable amount of corporate apathy.
This seems to be the crux of the situation. Whatever the problems LUG had, it was a company run by RPGers. Decipher is a company run by a card game manufacturer, and seems not to understand RPGs. Look at their web site - the RPG has very little coverage, and one prominent on the site seems to indicate that they think an RPG is simply another good way to use up the less useful CCG cards! Seriously!
As an outsider, it seems to me that Decipher thought that hiring the LUG RPG writers would make them an RPG publisher, but that was only half the battle, and clearlty half isn't enough. I do hope Decipher can pull its act together, but there's not much sign of it.
They look great! Thanks for taking the time to post these!Quote:

I finished reading your adventure and really enjoyed it. I would love to see more of your work!
Yeah, me too. But I was thinking of typing them up in NG-style format to avoid forcing the use of the form... :)Quote:

(Of course, on reflection, I suppose (if it's okay with you, Don) I could include the form in the zip file with the characters...)
Any progress?
I might be able to get to it tonight, MC. Been a busy week...
