Enterpise...I'm looking forward to it

Well , my mom always told me “If you can say something nice, don’t say anything at all…” but if you don’t say anything, then B&B think “hey, we’re doing an awesome job…”(this despite the fact that the rating are dropping faster than the XFL… http://www.trekrpg.net/Board/ubb/smile.gif)

I’d rather sacrifice/kill this series in order to save the franchise, then allow it to ‘bleed the body’, and destroy all the creativity.

(You know; someone else said that B5 was their favorite show [great continuity, character development & advancement, and so forth]; for me I like SG1. You can find all those things mentioned on this show, it’s as crisply written as B5…make me wish Trek writers study this show for dialog, timing, character interaction, and all the other things that make sci-fi/fantasy fun)

OKay, I have seen the trailers for the new series and it finally hit me. What "Enterprise" reminded me of. How many of you have seen SPACE:1999.

This is what the new Trek reminded me of, futuristic, but close enough to material today. This program like the others will be workable and will survive on it's own merits. As did ST:TNG when it came out, lot of nay-sayers there too, for a while but then it really kicked in.
ST http://www.trekrpg.net/Board/ubb/biggrin.gifS9 was the same, who could imagine Star Trek on a space station, but in the end it went for seven seasons and showed us that it still held to the spirit of what STar Trek was.
ST:Voyager- once again A bomb or so every one thought that finally grew into its own right.

Enterprise should do as well. Granted I do agree with what has been said negatively but not about the show, StarTrek has had a good long run, and I do believe that people are getting burned out on Star Trek, it happens. I mean after all we have had four series to date ( 5 counting Enterprise), Nine Motion Pictures( at current count, X is still in production), and the Gods knows how many books, refrence materials and Role Playing Games.

I will sit back and watch Enterprise with the same anticipation and hope that I had with all the others.

So much for positive out looks.

Trek has always mananged to make great errors with warp. Mostly because in their effort to keep the Galaxy big they made it too big. I recall vaguely, that once or twice Bajor to Earth was listed as a few days travel...by runabout...which maxes out at...Warp 5, new scale. Grab your tech manuals you'll see that that is way too close.

It's the way of Star Trek. Voyager's big one for me was in Scorpion, when harry detected borg debris five light years away, so Captain Janeway ordered and intercept course at warp 2. Warp 2! It'd have taken them years to get there!

TOS has several moments where kirk orders the ship to set interstallar courses at all of warp one. He was on a five year mission though....no hurry.

TNG may have a few warp errors too but my favorite is a Deflector sheild trip. Reg Barkley, when he was super REG upgriped Enterprise's sheilds to 300% over normal, but the Enterprise never used that rick again. NEVER! They used Metaphasic sheilds more than once, why not that? Because Reg was returned to normal? Just because he forgot doesn't mean the Main computer did.

The shows have been rife with continuity flubs. As far as I know Enterprise has yet to violate cannon, (although they are skirting the ragged edge of it) so I'm looking forward to it. I'm hoping against hope for something fresh and exciting. As was said before, TNG, DS9, Voyager...2 out of three isn't bad....in fact in the world of TV that's Damn good.

In any case, for every continuity quible I've seen I've seen two cases where the Show has paid it's lip service and acknowledged their history. Case in point...the romulan was was fought with atomic weapons according to spock...Not likely to fit with the standard audience of today since Thermo-nuclear weapons have superceeded them, but Enterpise at least has no Photon torpeados. What ever missile weapons they have they aren't antimatter based, it seems.

I was actually afraid they would not use Starfleet, but somebody on the staff must have recognised that it wouldn't have really been Star Trek with out Starfleet. And I don't recall any canonic statements saying the Federation predates Starfleet.

All in all I think Enterprise could be good trek. I'm not holding my breath or putting money on it, it has things against it as well. But I will be watching come premire...I expect most everyone else will be too...

My only quibble with "Starfleet" is that it sounds rather pompous to call it that when we're only sending out our firts long-range scout... into aread that other have explored already.

I think I have that Stardate magazine; if I remember it was a slightly tonque-in-cheak in-character rant by a Klingon. His arguments from what I remember were:

1. Klingons as Federation allies and a Klingon crewmember - writer claimed the Empire would never align with UFP.

2. "Worf" was a silly name and not true Klingon. Used the FASA model as justification.

3. The Enterprise was a silly design and its deflector dish made a good bright target for Klingon warships to fire upon.

I think there was another potshot at the ship having children as crew but generally the above is jist of it.

Never really took it that seriously, concidering it was an IC article.

Every series will get its detractors - some hated TNG, others DS9, others Voyager, and now Enterprise. To each his or her own... I find myself less opposed to it everyday, but I expect that is just exhaustion. I still am crossing my fingers that it will turn out all right.

Sir, if I may...

1) I always thought the connection to the Orgainian ep. was cool.

2)The writer in question obviously did not read the whole of the FASA model, which states that once a warrior enters a service branch then the first letter of his name is changed "K" if in the Navy "M" if in the marines. I should also say that I thought this idea was silly as well.

3) Never thought about it before the series aired. Because I never heard or saw the ship before it aired.

4) Come on! Every Trek fan I know hated Wesley! I really missed the alternate ending of "Yesterday's Enterprise" where he gets decapitated in the end...They toned it down, thought it was too bloody already.

I for one am looking foward to ENTERPRISE, and a lot more after the newest trailers. The aliens I have seen so far (besides the vulcans) look A LOT more alien than ones from Voyager. "Oh my god it's a V'rel'ak'- oh wait, Ensign Kim just broke his nose. O.K. so the Klingons are against cannon, but I can live with that. Maybe just two different types of Klingons exist. (or three, if you consider the differences in the TMP Klingons) As far as the ship is concerned, yeah the exterior is definitly off-cannon, but what about the interior. The bridge looks pretty good, but we really haven't seen it in it's entirety. What interests me more is the engine room. It looks like exactly what an engine room should look like in the time period: cramped and with huge machinery. And then there's the actors. I can't say much for any of there past performances, anything they've been on (like Q. Leap)is only on cable, which I don't have http://www.trekrpg.net/Board/ubb/frown.gif, but it looks like they will do a good job, but Trek has always had good actors. And Scott Bakula doesn't seem half bad to me. But enough already. I'm already a biased ENTERPRISE fan. When I saw a young capt. Archer building the X-33, I was enthusiastic.

Hi guys, long time no post! Count me amongst those who are hopeful that Enterprise will be good, in fact the more I see/read about the show, the more I like the look of it.

Someone else has already mentioned what I think will make or break this show; the characters. Give us strong characters and good stories, (& and at least try some continuity), and I think the show has a good shot.

I'm in favor of letting the the show run and allowing history to decide how good it will be. When TNG debuted in 1987, there were a lot of nay sayers who were proven wrong in the final analysis

The latest previews to Enterprise looks good and I think everyone should give it a chance. The more I hear and see of it the more I like it. With all the rumers going on about this show I am woundering what Paramount is thinking. They have to be concerned about canon and about die hard fans. It has to be more than just making money.

What previews?!?! The only thing I've seen on TV about Enterprise consisted of sceen shots of the different series, not includeing Ent., and Mr. Berman patting himself on the back so much I thought he would break his arm. What are they hiding?

Last Wednesday during Voyager they showed a new commercial, about 20 seconds long, of Enterprise, with some good shots of the uniforms and aliens.

Here in the L.A. area they replay Voyager on Sunday night at 8pm. I am sure the commercial will air again.
