Personnally, I need them to run a game smoothly.
I need the screen to ensure a smooth run of the game, so as to avoid flipping through the books.
I need the Starships book because my campaign is heavy in ships stuff and technology.
I need the Starfleet Ops book because my players are Starfleet officers and run their ship.
And I don't have days and days to make all the stuff myself.
I'll want - and buy - all the rest as well, and I'm sure other GMs need these other books.
Need? No. I'd like to flip through them, check them out, but I don't *need* them for my games. The PG and the NG provide all the info I need to run a Trek game or episode. If I don't know a rule backwards and forwards off the top of my head, I wing it.Quote:

I know all GMs have their own style, though.
As for the topic at hand, I think Decipher should just remove the upcoming product list from the website completely. That way, when stuff hits the shelves, it'll be a pleasant surprise. :)

Frankly, I think it'd be (even) worse.
TO DECIPHER EMPLOYEES:
Don Mappin is not responsible for my poor attitude, despite a previous post that could have been interpreted that way. My disappointment at ongoing events "thinned my skin" to the point where I reacted out of proportion to the percieved slight. It's important to me to make this clear.

Listen, yes, it's a pain in the hindquarters that Decipher is woefully behind schedule. But is it really that important to get worked up into a frenzy for it? No. It's just a game.
Now, maybe I'm more patient than others, but please, people! Relax! Decipher will get the product out (hopefully sooner than later). Whatever the problem is (and, to be honest, I really don't care what it is), Decipher wants to get their product out as soon as possible, so they can make money.
Personally, I think there's an experience problem within the leadership of Decipher, in that they probably underestimated the complexity of producing RPGs (as opposed to CCGs). I say let them work through it.
Decipher has updated their LOTR RPG info. Nice to see this stuff on their site. :) I imagine a similar Trek RPG update can't be too far behind.

Regarding Decipher and CCGs and RPGs:
I suppose someone must have already mentioned it, but Decipher probably just assigns a higher priority to their card lines than the RPG lines. Hence, the RPG stuff lags behind on the actual production end (as opposed to the development end, which, by all accounts, is as quick as any company). Follow the money and you usually find the culprit, or the reason in this case.

LOTR 1st...Trek 2nd.
Even though the next Trek movie comes out before the next LOTR flick, Decipher has always taken preference to LOTR. Don't know and don't care why (so don't bother throwing that bat'leth at me), that's just how it is. That's how it was last year...Trek was supposed to come out around November/December '01. Decipher then pushed it back to April (not because terrorists had wiped out WTC) because LOTR was just released (as if we didn't have enough horror in NYC) and it was more important to get that out on the shelves than Trek. <>
The Dec-reps can argue that point until the Borg come home, but that is what the game stores all said they'd been told by the Dec-reps at the time and that's exactly how it played out. History repeats itself over and over.
Now to go back to playing with the HERO system...:D
I'm confused. AFAIK, the Trek RPG Players Guide came out before the Lord of the Rings Core Book. It, the LotR CB, came out this past summer. Are you referring to the LotR card game or the Adventure Game?Quote:

I do believe you are correct about which PG came out first. However, I was discussing Decipher's sentiment. Yes, Trek-RPG was put on hold until LOTR-CCG was on the shelves and after the TREK-PG Decipher got to work on the LOTR-PG.Quote:

Decipher's attitude (according to game shops in NYC) was LOTR came first then Trek. Again, I'm only repeating what was told to me by my friendly neighborhood game store proprietor...the reps for Decipher may (or may not) have changed since the announcement of the Trek-RPG being made by Decipher. I mean no slander (liable in print) or disrespect to the current Dec-reps, this is just what I heard at the time.
I think I also pointed out that maybe the printer that they seem to be having problems with has other customers. I don't know how these things really work so I can't really speculate. Maybe the printer is having serious mechanical trouble. And as always, Decipher's Trek stuff has to get a stamp of OK-ness from Paramount, and that could take some time.

All I know is that I worked for the largest printing company in Canada for three years, and businesses that would purchase print runs on the order of Decipher's (at least what I would speculate the size of their runs are) didn't get high priority. They simply had to wait for free press time.Quote:

And no offense to your FLGS('s), but this would not be the first time a store owner repeated something he'd heard from his distributor who claimed he heard it directly from the game company and that it was gospel truth. Nor will it be the last. (Lord know's I've run into it numerous times over the years out here in Utah...) Either way, it still doesn't mean that they are getting the whole truth. :)
