There are relatively few systems in this sector. Starbase 619 is located in the Deinura system (the system is named for an ancient Cardassian artist who was renowned for her paintings and murals... the Cardassians who discovered the system said the nebula on the outskirts of the system reminded them of her work-vast, beautiful, and swirling with color.)

There is a large asteroid belt separating the sector from the rim of the frontier, beyond which lies unexplored space.

Beyond that, there is no cartographic data (either that, or your brilliant, competent Narrator hasn't worked out those details yet, genius that he is :D ) I hope to have a full system template for the Deinura system soon- I'll need it for this series!

A smile instantly on his lips the moment Mort's story ends, the Cardassian engineer claps him on the shoulder. "We should probably head for Muiroc's before our seats are taken," he says, gesturing down the Promenade. "Shall we?"

Disregard the info about the station's appearance... I've changed my mind; it is a standard Nor station that has been upgraded with some Federation technology, no special appearance or anything. It was hard to come up with a good picture of its first design that I could put on the... (drumroll) website that I am building for the game.

Nothing fancy, just text and some graphics. It's hosted on Geocities, so unfortunately you will have to deal with pop-up ads. Also not much is on the site right now, just a brief blurb about the setting of the game, and links to the stats/background for your characters. More info on races, ships, etc. will be added as they are encountered in the game itself.
Also be forewarned that the pop-up ads seem to occasionally cause scripting/debug errors. Nothing major, just click Cancel on the dialog boxes if you encounter that problem.
So we are now an official online presence! I'm going to try and create a banner to add to my signature ala AslanC and I'm also going to see if I can get a link to the site added to the TrekRPGnet Transporter Room.

OOC: Okay, I'm going to fast-forward a little to the time when dinner starts so we can keep this moving along...

Muiroc's Restaurant has a stylish, romantic atmosphere. Candles are lit on the tables, and soft music is playing when you all arrive. Taking your places at a large table that has been set up, you have a chance to meet the two remaining senior officers you have not met yet:

William Tairen: A very young man with red hair and deep green eyes, he is the station's Chief Counselor. That someone so young has been made a senior officer is a telling sign of the personnel shortage Starfleet is still suffering from following the heavy casualties of the Dominion War. He appears human at first glance, but on further examination you notice he has pointed ears. When asked about this, he quietly explains that he had a Vulcan grandmother. This is reflected in his personality. Although he shows his emotions, he seems a great deal more calm and level-headed then the majority of humans any of you have met so far. He's quiet and shy, not traits you would expect in a Counselor. When asked about what qualified him for a high-ranking position so early in his career, he states- not without a hint of pride- that he has made extensive studies in psychology. While still at the Academy during the war, he wrote papers on the effect of combat fatigue on Starfleet officers which became required reading there before he even graduated. Judging from his credentials, Will is a genius by anyone's standards. As for his childhood and early background, he doesn't say anything.

He makes a particular point of approaching Solek and Soltar and engaging them in conversation- he is, after all, part Vulcan and feels obliged to socialize with those to whom he is related by blood. Although he seems to be a bit nervous as to how the two Vulcans will react to a "half-breed."

Tajira Mun'daron: Andorian female, called "Taj" by those who know her well. Like Tairen, she is very young. She is the station's chief of security. The exact opposite of Will Tairen, she is always alert as though on the defensive for some hidden danger that no one else can see. However, she is frequently distracted by something else: an infant girl, no older than two, who, she grudgingly admits, is her daughter, Li'shai. She has a babysitter take care of her daughter while she's on duty. (When she says this, you see a pained expression in her eyes, as though she regrets having to neglect her daughter by choosing to remain as a single mother in Starfleet.) The girl appears to be a full-blooded Andorian at first... but when you look closely, there seems to be something... well, different about the girl. At much pressing, Taj admits that the child's father was human. You were not even aware that crossbreeding between Humans and Andorians was possible... but the proof is right in front of you. The mixed blood accounts for the girl's odd appearance, but there is still something else about her that you can't quite put your finger on...
From the way Taj talks about her past, which she does not do much of, you realize it would probably not survive the evening if you actually dared to ask who the father of her child was.

As for the rest of the crew whom you've already met, they are already here. Rather than sitting at the main table, Arek Kuran has set up a small table in the back corner, apparently for himself and his significant other, Commander Julath. Julath herself sits at a piano on the stage where the band usually plays, toodling out some random tunes. You haven't the heart to tell her that a Denebian Slime Devil crawling across an iron grate would be preferable to the sound of her poor musical abilities. A glass of wine is set carefully on the top of the piano- from what you've seen of her so far, she drinks a lot, obviously more than is good for her.

Muiroc, the Ferengi owner of the Restaurant, waddles slowly over, supported by a walking stick. He smiles broadly at you all. Somehow the smile is reassuring (for a Ferengi anyway.) He says, "Welcome to all of you! I certainly look forward to seeing some new faces around here. Seeing those profit-forsaken construction teams day after day was getting dull as dust, you know." He passes out menus to each of you- you notice they are printed on paper and hand-written in fancy, curving writing with a real, antique pen- not lined out on PADDs like other establishments you've been to.

There seems to be something to order from just about every culture, to suit anyone's tastes. You can order your meals, converse with each other, or do whatever else you feel would be appropriate at the moment. What are you all doing?

Mort is pleased to discover Muiroc has Bolian cuisine as it's properly prepared... meat that has been sitting long enough that it's begun to decay. He orders this, as well as Bolian tonic water, both of which he enthusiastically recommends to those sitting near him.

Mort is displeased with the Commander's and Legate's decision to sit apart from the others. He will approach them both and politely invite them to join the crew at the main table. If an issue arises with seating arrangements, Mort will personally move two extra chairs to the table, as well as the necessary utensils, etc. In other words, he won't surrender to letting them be anti-social without good reason.

Gir pauses suddenly in the aisle as he catches sight of the Andorian and her half-breed child. His eyes harden, then just as quickly move away from her, and the engineer finds a spot at the table as far away from the security chief as possible.

He orders an expensive Cardassian dish from Muiroc and quietly asks him for a bottle of '63 Lerenz kanar, or a '68 if the Ferengi doesn't have the better year.

Soltar inclines his head in a gesture of acknowlegement:

"Quite. It bodes well for our mission here that our positions on this matter are so closely aligned... that the path to peace is to ensure there is always a logical alternative to war."

Soltar then listens to the others, and heads to the resteraunt on time.

OOC: Just a note that we will have two players joining us imminently, Silverthorne and RaconteurX. They didn't have their characters ready when the game initially started, but they'll be joining us soon. I'd like to hold out this scene until they can join us since the dinner is a good place for them to jump in and introduce their characters. But rest assured that the main plot of this episode will begin before the scene is over... ;)

Edit Note: I've also received word that AslanC is interested in joining. If all three of these join, it will bring our total up to 8 players (!) but I can handle it. I keep breaking my own rule about not accepting more players- I think 8 is my maximum though. I've never run an RPG online or otherwise with more than 3 people so this is definitely a learning experience for me. Aslan helped me get my banner up and running by the way, so this is the least I can do to thank him. :)

"Ah," the old Ferengi says smiling, "you're in luck, my friend. I happen to have a single bottle of the '63 left... but this seems like as good an occasion as any to polish it off."

Gir's not-so-subtle effort to stay away from Taj and her daughter has not gone unnoticed. The little girl scoots out of her mother's arms and stares wide-eyed at the engineer. "M'ma! Cardashian!" she says exuberantly. Taj looks over at Gir, notices his hard-eyed stare, and quickly scoops her daughter protectively back into her arms before turning away once more.

Solek will greet Counselor Tairen in traditional Vulcan manner. He is not at all perturbed at the fact that he is 1/2 human as Solek has a few human cousins himself. He expresses his admiration that one as young as he has achived so much allready. If Cnslr Tairen is fluent in the language, Solek will carry out the conversation in Vulcan.

Solek is pleased that the resturant has a great many selections from various planet (and ammazed at the illogic of printing a menu on paper when a PADD would of sufficed) and orders a Plo'meke soup and a salad. However he is a bit put off at the sight of Mort's meal having not been aware of what Bolians consider a delicacy! :D

Tairen does indeed converse in Vulcan. He asks Solek and Soltar about themselves... their jobs, their motivations for accepting this assignment, and about their backgrounds if they are willing to talk about that.

Meanwhile, Julath and Kuran make their way to the main table at Mort's invitation. Kuran is a bit unsure- sharing his romantic dinner for two that he had all planned out with a lot of other people isn't exactly what he had in mind when he took his beloved to dinner- but Julath is more than willing to join the crowd so he goes along with her.

Taj continues to try and keep a tight rein on her daughter... she is wary of Gir, occasionally glancing at him when she thinks he isn't looking, watching him like a cornered animal.

BTW just a clarification, Tairen is 1/4 Vulcan, 3/4 Human... as mentioned above he had a Vulcan grandmother.

Gir is not unaware of the security officer's furtive glances, but he doesn't allow himself to be drawn into her game. The glen focuses his attention on his nearer dinner companions, specifically the young quarter-Vulcan.
