Yeah, I hope the klingon situation is a result of temporal manipulation. Janeway as the culprit is acceptable, but I'd prefer Braxton. Another thing, maybe Phlox should be Andorian.

Enterprise will dubute September 26 at 2100 hrs. I would like to know what all of you consider canon or cannon or whatever. Encyclopedia is over priced but quotes all the movies and all TV shows. Can anyone respond without getting yourself all lathered up?
I forgot to mention above but we..I mean Paramount is about to sign Sean Connery as the villian in Star Trek X.

Yes, Pacific Time. The date is firm, 09/26/01. The time will be 2000 or 2100 hrs, yet to be determined.
Canon is what's onscreen, and for me that means also the Encyclopedia, since everything there is from the shows.
Connery would be cool.

Only one hitch to that, Cochrane. A lot of the information in the Encyclopedia and the Chronology are conjectural, based on information given or statements made on screen.
Therefore, not everyhtiung in it is canon. I do believe the date for Klingon First Contact is one of those self-admitted conjectures.
I could be wrong, but I'm fairly sure. I'll check the chronology when I get home from work...

OK Doug Burke, Just what do you consider Canon? If it is mentioned or talked about on screen or tv is it not canon? What is your difintion of canon. If the Encyclopedia is not canon then what is and what is your refrence?
Okay, I gove up, I have seen the Interview with Scott Bakula, it was their in the engineering room, up on the Schematic board, much like in Next Gen, this is the real deal. You would think they would try to give a passing nod to Mark Jefferies for one of his orginal designs, But no, they went to some other direction.

Well, touch screen technology isn't new. Of course, if they used Okuda's LCARS design (suitable for the 24th century) then it will be blatant violation of consistency.
Like I said, they have to balance with our real-world modern tech and progress from their up to the mid-22nd century. So you'll have to imagine a communicator evolved from the modern cell phone or Nextel, and an evolved form of DVD-ROM for data storage.
And they will have to take creative license to make this appealing to today's audience both old generations and new.

If its mentioned on screen or shown, that generally denotes canon.
Sometimes that isn't true, since Star Trek V and Star Trek: the Animated Series are not concidered canon for various reasons.
Other sources are generally concidered canon in a source-by-source basis. I have heard that Jeri Ryans Janeway novels are concidered canon.
Okudas stuff is often conjectural, based on canon information with his own ideas and best guesses thrown in. Its not guarenteed canon bit the often seems that the Chronology and Encyclopedia are used as a guide by Trek writers as many of its conjectural dates and items end up on the big/small screen and thus be canonized (one of the best examples is the date for the founding of the Federation which was first conjectured in the Chronology and then canonized in a TNG episode AFRAIK).
But generally if you see it on the screen thats canon. Don't necessarily trust anything else.

Jeri Taylor's Janeway novels and any novels regarding the origins of the Voyager crew are not considered canon. Only the elements from that novel that have appeared on screen (like her father, Admiral Janeway, and how he died) are considered canon. It's not proof positive that the entire novel is canon.
