Block gone... New game setting coming...

I didn't want to bring this up in the game thread, but here's another question for the almighty GM. ;)

I based R'rssar's comments to Jacoby in the sickbay scene on the assumption that at least some of his crew would be new to the ship. As Cpt. Grimm's log mentioned that the Banockburn spent about 18 months in spacedock (in one of the very first IG posts) I thought it unlikely that Starfleet would have put the complete old crew together again.
If I were Starfleet Command I'd reassign at least some people from the original Banockburn crew to other duties, knowing that the ship would stay in spacedock for at least a year - no use in letting experienced crewmembers and their skills go to waste. Therefore I never even thought of the possibility that Jacoby would be so intimatly familiar with all his personnel, as I assumed that at least some of the people he knew would be scattered to all corners of the Federation.

How realistic is it that Jacoby knows every one of his sickbay crew so well?

If you say it's perfectly realistic in the "UST universe" that's fine by me, but have you even thought about Jacoby not knowing everyone of his team as well as he used to?

He, like every department head, had a chance to hand pick most of his officers (if available).

Now look, I sense that this is obviously a very important thing to you as a player, for me it was a scene and nothing more. Some colour and conflict, establishing how this isn't the huggy-touchy TNG where everyone gets along.

Since you have returned to it weeks later, I assume that it has stuck in your craw. I really don't see this issue as that important, it was all flavour to me. If you do feel it is very important to your enjoyment of the game, then we can discuss this in private.

Heck, I don't even know when I am. Seems I should have noticed something gone awry well ahead of the current time index of the episode... do have some god-awful bonuses to Observe. ;)

Still, I'd rather Aslan give me some cues, ere I begin improvisation. Some directors don't like it when the talent ad-libs overly much. Believe me, given free rein I could introduce plot elements so odd that Aslan would need weeks to sort out where all this is heading. But he already has ideas of his own, and I would like to see what he has up his sleeve. :D

So much for having something to do whilst stuck covering shifts for no-show and vacationing coworkers. I'm on my seventeenth hour of what will be a twenty-four hour shift, and I may work a double Saturday night as well. It'll be great overtime, but I'll be nearly dead come Sunday morning. :eek:

I am the sole staff member on-site so, even if I had a cot or couch on which to stretch out, I would be remiss in my duties were I to take advantage of it. I wouldn't get much out of it anyway, being an insomniac. Better to find something to do to keep myself alert (like converse with night-owl residents, surf the 'net and peruse all the lovely games I picked up at Origins. To quote a tune from Warren Zevon, "I'll sleep when I'm dead".

After some thought, and conversation with a gaming friend of mine, I am curious:

At the risk of sounding like Deanna Troi, I sense a certain ‘constipation’ in our DS6 game-

and after some introspection, it seems like the friction points might be due to confusion over technology, and how it works in the UST universe. It is difficult, for me at least, to know the line of demarcation between TNG era and the Movie Era, since UST blends both.

Having read Aslan’s site, and talked with him a few times, I think I am beginning to get a feel for where he feels the division is, but obviously I don’t have as good a sense as he does. (He wrote it, after all!)

What about you guys? having similar problems? would the game be easier if it were simply TNG *or* Movie Era, and not both.

I’m merely curious, but don’t want to step on Aslan’s toes. (So feel free to chime in, Aslan!)

I'm very comfortable with the TOS/Movie Era mix of technology, so no problems here.

No, no problem here.

OTOH I had little chance to interact with the "technical" side of the setting.
Ask me again when you get shot up and my character can't put you together again because the technology isn't as advanced as I expect. ;)

RolePlay OnLine! might serve us as a new home for the campaign, if all are interested in continuing. I have only recently joined, but it seems a decent site.

As to the game itself, sorry for the lack of posts lately, but life has gotten very busy (it is summer after all) but I haven't given up, despite one player quitting in protest (Which did sour me for a bit).

Well, I'm willing to continue the game, whether we move to a Yahoo! Group or some other online forum venue.

If we could find a decent evening time that suits everyone, I'd even be willing to try an ICQ or IRC based game.

There is now the Ferengi Blue Room, of course, and coaxing LtCmdrMatt into creating a Gaming Hub should not be too difficult.

It matters not to me, but I cannot play by chat.

Do we just want to pick up where we left off, or "reshoot" part or all of the episode? Either works for me.

Likewise - time difference to all the North Americans involved would make chat almost impossible to me.

AFAIR Aslan ins't one for PBEM, so finding a forum to support us seems like the only viable alternative.

Okay I have given it thought and here is my decision.

I am restarting the game from scratch.

One of the major changes will be putting it in regular post DS9- Trek (with maybe a canon change or two, but probably not).

Why? Simple, I prefer stories set in Movie Gen, but the TNG+ Universe is ideal for Roleplaying.

Setting may or may not change, I don't know yet.

Ask questions.

But the game will go on, just slightly changed. If folks want to keep their characters, et al, no problem. Want to try something new? No problem. Want to drop out? No problem.

The game will have its own forum at FBR as well (thanks Matt).

I want to continue.
I want to use the character I have (with the changes required by the changed background, which shouldn't be much).

OTOH I reserve the right to change any of the above statements without prior notice, depending on - in part, but not limited to - the changes to the background you are going to make and other circumstances that I have not yet considered or which may come up in the future.

You have done a fabulous job thus far, Aslan, especially in light of your major work-related scheduling upheaval. I may make some minor adjustments to my character, mainly correcting the errors I made during character creation, but I am rather fond of Deacon. I have never played a Security Officer prior to this game, and have some interesting ideas I want to explore.

Of course, I said that about Meredith Davies as well... :(

Just so you know guys, there will be some drastic setting changes, and such, and once the "series profile" is prepared, I will post it.

Essentially I am going to run my Star Trek Genesis/Paradise Station idea :)

It will be very very good, and lord knows I have put so much bloody work into it, it is best that it pays off.

New characters wil be available, including a Klingon BOP Commander (and possibly another member of his crew) and some other non-Starfleet folks as well :)

Now I have to request an updated character pic from STPMA, but that was relatively painless last time. I still love my Ultimate Deke though. :D

Hey, just that we are playing post-DS9 era doesn't mean we are going to switch to the latest uniforms.
With Aslan at the helm the uniforms we'll be using is anyone's guess. ;)
