"Jago's Gambit" Continues...
At this point Drace is sneaking around DS9 trying to figure out how to get the stone back and save his own skin, when he almost stumbles across Vash and three burly Nausicaans. The goons rough Drace up a bit as Vash watches. When they are done she gets the story out of him as to the whereabouts of the stone. Vash, with the not so subtle threat of Nausicaans on her side, tells Drace that he will break into the security centre and steal the stone back. He will then deliver it to her and she will let him go about his business. Drace, not seeing any immediate way out, agrees.
With no intention of doing as she asks, Drace makes a break for it and heads onto the Defiant. Working the computer fast, he manages to gain control of her systems.
At Ops, the Defiant power up is detected. As the others try to contact the ship, chief Mitchell quickly beams himself onboard moments before the shields snap up. Drace attempts to quick talk his way out while fumbling for his stunner but Sam cold-cocks him with a right.
Now that DS9 is undoubtedly involved, Colonel Kira takes control of the situation and declares that Bajor will decide who will get the Gambit Stone. The Klingons, Vash and her Nausicaan mercenaries and a Starfleet contingency representing Drace Vlasdric, led by Captain Lindsay and Jago convene the hearing. Using Bajoran law the Klingons begin to complain of an dishonorable advantage b y their adversaries. This leads Drace to make some disparaging remarks about the Klingons mothers. Order falls apart and huge fight breaks out.
Mitchell (who has become entranced by the mystery of the Gambit Stone) runs off to where the Stone is held "to make sure it's safe". Drace follows closely behind him. Reaching the brig, Mitchell tell Ro that there is a serious disturbance at the hearing. She immediately takes her officers to quell the riot. With her out of the way Sam quickly bypasses the security system and goes for the case with the stone. Sneaking up behind him with a pipe, Drace tries to even the earlier insult, but Sam still manages to knock him down. Jago and Lindsay run in to stop the fight. As Sam and Drace struggle with the case, it falls open and the stone rolls into the corner.
Before anyone is able to grab it, Kira, Ro and the other complainants show up. Kira’s Bajoran religious background helps her to understand the temptation of the stone will affect anyone who holds. Despite the demands of the others, Jago suggests that they use the power of the stone to send it away. There is much wailing and gnashing of teeth. A quick discussion allows Jago and Lindsay to decide that Mitchell should be the one to wish the stone away. At first Sam refuses the “honor”, but a bit of prodding by Jago convinces him,
As he takes the Stone, his head is filled with the wondrous possibilities he can accomplish. He thinks of Allanah’s dead mother and how easy it would be to bring her back. The power is overwhelming him and temptation is knocking. Just then he begins thinking about omnipotent power and his reality alteration experiences with Q aboard the Farscape. With out realizing what he is doing he mental wishes he never see Q again.
With a flash of light Q appears in the security centre. Everyone holds their breath for a moment. Q looks at the stone in Sam’s hand and says "So THAT was where we lost it. We've been looking for this for AGES." Q plucks the Stone from Mitchell's hand and declares the wish come true. Sam Mitchell will never see Q again.
With the stone gone, Vash and her Nausicaans take their leave of the others. Ro places the Klingons under arrest for murdering the crew of the freetrader and Captain Lindsay wishes Sam and Jago well. She heads back to the Farscape to help corral the rest of the Klingon crew.
Having no charges that she can make stick on him, Ro reluctantly lets Drace go free, but warns him never to return to DS9 again. Drace proclaims to have had his fill of Bajorans and heads out, followed by his sister. She tells him that she has taken care of the family problems and he can head home. He says he might do that and then immediately begins talking about some other scam he has cooking. Realizing he will never change, Jago gives her brother a hug goodbye and then tries to salvage the last few days of her shore leave with the Chief
Narrator's Notes
Run as a pick up game one night, Jago's gambit is one of my favs of the first season. Drace was played to perfection by my friend LC and the story was a heavy modification of the Klingon Gambit stone from the book of the same name.
Originally April played her Elig character in this story, but since she didn't do much that would change to outcome and I sort of hamhanded her in, I have decided for the purposes of this write up to use her other character Captain Lindsay. In hindsight it would have been the smart thing to do at the game as well.
Live and learn.
By this point I was getting a handle of the game a bit better and trying to balance out the focus on each player, but a session dedicated to one player and her life was kinda fun too.
Robin, Chief Mitchell's player also requested that an adventure be run that gave him the spotlight for a change. I smiled at the time and began planing that one, making sure it would be one to remember. But that adventure was still a few off. I had some loose ends to deal with and some subplots that needed tending.

"Fal Tor Pan" continues...
Back on Lexington, Chief Mitchell informs the ladies that he has received the medical files and that he will need to enlist the help of his daughter, who is also the Chief Transporter Officer to create the transporter clone. Jago acquiesces but is becoming disturbed by how many people are getting involved.
Once Sagan-Mitchell hears the plan she calmly reminds them that they will need a stasis tube for the clone, otherwise it will die from shock and be of no use to them. This frustrates Jago more as she realizes that she now needs to get one more person involved, not to mention her need to find yet another psionic.
She heads to sickbay and begins to coyly beat around the bush with Dr. Pritchard, but he smells something is up and makes her cut through the BS. Once she explains everything to him he says nothing, gets up and asks Nurse Calloway to prepare a stasis tube and bring it to the transporter room.
Meanwhile Elig and Chief Mitchell have isolated the penal facility that Tamel is being held at, but are unable to beam through the powerful shields that surround it. Thinking for a moment they decide to have Jago hack into the power computers for the mountain facility and shut them down. This will give them a window of only 2 seconds to lock on and beam out the Betazoid, but it is the best they can do. Jago, her head filled with visions of her career going down the drain, agrees.
Setting herself up in front of a terminal Jago sets to her task and soon enough has the power system off-line. As soon as the window opens, Chief Sagan-Mitchell beams Tamel, stasis tube and all onto the Lexington. With almost all the pieces in place, Jago and Elig leave the engineers and medical staff to create the transporter clone while they seek out another psionic.
Pouring over Starfleet records and FIPA records, Jago learns about Lieutenant Commander Deidhsuil Urram, Chief Counselor of the now destroyed USS Exeter. The FIPA lists her as being on par with Jago as to power level and her training is leaps and bounds ahead since she is Betazoid and has trained since childhood. At first hesitant to work with another Betazoid, they decide to test the waters.
Beaming down to Earth, they find Urram at her fiancée’s Montana horse ranch. After some refreshments and small talk about the battle against the Borg (see Episode 110 – Endgame Redux, Part 2 for more details) Jago broaches the topic. Urram listens and reveals that she knew Tamel from the Academy. She also professes a dislike of the whole Section 31 affair and agrees to help, though she isn’t sure how she can. The three women beam back to the Lexington to find that the team there has successfully created and placed in stasis a transporter clone of T’Cel.
With all their ducks in a row, Jago contacts Saavik who gives her the coordinates of the Vulcan temple in the Gobi. With that Elig, Jago, Deidhsuil and Sam beam down with the two stasis tubes. Pritchard, Calloway and Sagan-Mitchell remain on stand by on the Lexington if needed.
The temple itself is a marvel of Vulcan architecture and is almost two centuries old. Greeted by bald Vulcan monks who say nothing, they and the stasis tubes are brought inside. There Saavik has set up an alter for the event. She explains that she will use the power of Deidhsuil and Jago to perform the ritual while she will act as the focusing lens of that power. She warns that things could go wrong, so they two women will have to clear their minds of emotion and doubt.
With a clang of a gong the ritual begins. For what seems like hours Jago and Deidhsuil remain mind-melded with Saavik while she struggles and moans through the ritual. All around are Vulcan monks who chant and murmur in ancient Vulcan. Their voices rise and fall in time with Saavik’s moans and struggles. Then T’Cel sits up taking in breath.
Quickly the monks move to the women and catch Saavik before she collapses on the floor. It seems the ritual has been a success and T’Cel is restored. With that said Saavik then turns to Jago and croaks that she has held up her end of the deal and that she needs Jago to no fulfill her part. On the balcony above Vulcan monks begin pulling off robes, revealing Starfleet security officers.
From outside more pour in and eventually they are joined by Commander Joseph Reese who takes Saavik into custody for running an unauthorized operation. Jago demands to know how he knew where they were, and he just smiles and tells her that she and Elig have a nano-transponder in their digestive track from the refreshments they had at his house.
Jago holds out her hands, expecting to be arrested. Joseph laughs and tells her than if he wanted to arrest her he would have done it before Saavik completed the ritual. Instead he let it be done and now T’Cel is alive and Tamel can be tried for her crimes. Jago and her friends are free to go, but he then points out to Jago that he has done her another favour.
Grumbling as she is now two in debt to him, Jago, Elig, Deidhsuil, Sam and the reborn T’Cel all beam back to the Lexington. Elig asks Jago what it means that Reese has done Vlasdric two favours. Jago just smiles weakly and surmises that someday, sooner rather than later, he will ask her for a favour or two of his own.
Narrator's Notes
Again I must start this one off by explaining that this is cobbled together from my own spotty memory and then edited for flow. While the events happened as such, they may not be exactly accurate to the minuet details. Still it is %90 accurate to be sure.
When I first knocked off T'Cel in Mindfield I wasn't sure if I was going to run this story or not. Then as time went by I decided it was suitably "Star Trek" enough to warrant running.
For a second time in a row Jago took centre stage, and certainly she did an excellent job with the spotlight. The move, countermove, counter-counter-move game she was in with Section 31 and Starfleet Intelligence had taken a new level with the completion of this adventure.
For the other players, well Elig and Deidhsuil are played by the same player so it was a bit of work for her, but she did a great job. And poor Chief Mitchell, I was wondering if there was anything Jago could ask him to do that would make him say "no". Not yet thus far. But that said the good chief still had his day on the horizon, but not just yet.
First the crew had to be together for a big adventure involving an old TNG enemy.
