Wouldn't it be nice to see Series V with a non-human captain? We've seen Kirk, Picard, Sisko and Janeway, maybe its time to have a Vulcan or a Bolian in charge, anyone but not a human again. Would be a nice change of pace from the constant humans running about. Personnally I'd like to see the series shortly in the future, maybe after the Dominion wars and the return of the U.S.S. Voyager.
If ratings are falling wouldn't it be better to make it in the future so they could introduce new aspects to the StarTrek world? Apart from fans I doubt people will sit down to watch the beginning of the Federation if they did not watch the previous series. A new series based in the future with exotic aliens and a fancy new ship may garner some attention. I'm a fan so I'll sit down to watch no matter when it happens, but if they want new people to start watching then they should do something which the other series haven't done starting by changing the crew composition.
