Lancer
I don't mind playing in any position, I just asumed that most pilots would be NPCs.
In Above and Beyond I though the squadrons were the 58th "Wild Cards" and 222nd "Angry Angels"

I took some time today to go back and reread portions of the Dominion War Sourcebook- especially those areas dealing with fighters. Based on my reading, the USS Vanguard carried 12 Attack Fighters which comprised its Fighter Wing. This would be the 222nd Fighter Wing ("Hell's Angels"). That Wing was broken down into 4 Fighter Squadrons, identified in the previous game as Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, and Delta. With only 8 fighters remaining (assuming Sidewinder and Intruder are repairable), we would reorganize as Alpha Squadron (Sidewinder, Intruder), Bravo Squadron (Stellar Knight, Paladin), Charlie Squadron (Phantom, Trident), and Delta Squadron (Eagle, Falcon). Having two fighters per squadron is still within the guidelines of the DWS descriptions. In addition to these Peregrine Starfleet Attack Fighters, we also have the USS Colorado (Danube class), 2 Type 6 (Lucas, Addams), 2 Type 7 (Onizuka, Kelvin), 2 Type 8 (Pournelle, Bova), 2 Type 9 (Tereshkova, Ride), and 2 type 15 (Haskell, Ryan) Shuttles.
Captain Craig, were I you, I would check out the above list of fighters and grab one, creating a fighter pilot character from the DWS.
...Or you might put together another sort of character entirely. We have an Andorian NPC named Lor who is the Science Officer, but why not just make him/her a science officer and you take that post. I have a real distinct feeling that we're going to be needing one of those soon. Another sort of officer we don't hear from a lot is the Ops officer- in charge of managing ship's systems. -But if a fighter pilot is what you want to be, why not?
Denzil Miracle informs me that he will be trying to play a Rapid Response Team leader (he lost the last two characters he played). JALU3 obviously is the Flight Operations Officer (CAG). dhorkan is obviously Capt. Ronaldo Marques. We haven't heard from Greg Smith, but we have heard from our Romulan foeperson, and I don't see why we can't get "Sevekk" to play again.
It's good that this is starting to get started, all the pregame organization and what not. Ok, so there is only one person of the original Vanguard grp that hasn't joined yet . . . great. One of the Romulans from their GRP wants to play, and two new people. Am I correct in counting a possible 7 people at this point?
OK . . . so the Air Group is now what? Cause it was the 222nd Air Group/Wing . . . and the 442nd Fighter GRP. I guess we'll just flip the numbers around . . . act like nothing had ever changed  .
As some of you might have noticed, via Email, I've sent my character out to Narrator Raets. However, I've only recieved one Email from you all, the CAPTs . . . and IMHO that character is STACKED!!! Good God . . . just look at his characters contacts! But anyways, I guess that's all good cause he's the CAPT. But we'll here from Narrator Raets about whether it is acceptable.
Furthermore, I've been talking to CMDR Powers here and this is what he said about the damage to the Aft portion of the Flight Deck:
The doors were buckled and jettisoned. All of the interiors of aft three bay sections were scorched and damaged by plasma fires and shock wave. Lots of minor equipment damage. Basically, if it could be shook loose, its no good anymore. The aft bay control room is open to space and both crew on duty are dead. The refueling bays to Starboard and Port are damaged, but thank ghod the deuterium tankage didn't blow or the back of the ship would look like a spent shotgun shell. The plasma fires were conducted through corridors and jefferies tubes to the impulse engines, but by that point had spent most of their energies getting there. The damage to the engines is mostly superficial and to control systems. The main bay blast doors did their job and kept the plasma fires from reaching the flight deck mid-bay. We lost a number of flight deck crew and engineering crew, but nothing we can't handle (except emotionally perhaps). Essentially, the emergency systems did their job for the most part. No weapons have been lost. We still have our industrial replicators available to make repairs with.
Well I hope we get a roster soon, and an email list toboot . . . and I hope it'll be a while 'til the Roms come around . . . we'll need the time to lick our wounds. But like I've said before, a collapsing singularity is pretty hard not to notice.
Also regarding the Fighters. The 'Trident' is my personnal fighter, granted I don't get much time to fly her, but she's my baby, and she's special. :D
Okay, I've decided to go for a science officer aboard the Vanguard as my character. If no one has any objections all I need are some game stats.
How did you build your characters for the original game? Straight from the Rulebook with Tours of Duty and all that or some other approach?
If it's the first, how many Tours?
God, this is gonna be great playing with you guys.
OK, I'll need some Rommie players and the Vanguard's command crew decision on what to do with the Star Runner survivors.
Lancer . . . Lt. Lor didn't have any written stats to my knowledge. However, check with CMDR Powers, he'll have the official statement on what Lt. Lor did have in the way of skills.
Currently, if you are to take up Lt. Lor, he is with me onboard the Onizuka (Type 7 Shuttle) and two security Personnel. We were going to try to negotiate with the Roms during the lull in the battle, which was the Role Playing that happened midgame that everyone talks about. We ended up high tailing it due to the fact that . . . well . . . we were in a Type 7 Shuttle! :p
From the knowledge that I have . . . he is a Male Andorian. That's it. Consult Narrator Raets and FMR Narrator 'CMDR Powers' for how this character should be written up and played.
Narrator Raets,
Shouldn't the decision of what happens to the Rom survivors be decided in game?
Having watched a lot of STNG on TNN this week, I've had my conscience 'Picarded' a bunch!
Cmdr Powers approaches the center seat where Captain Ronaldo Marques is reviewing sensor systems damage on a Padd:
"Captain Marques, it is our obligation under Starfleet regulations to make every effort to retrieve the Romulan survivors. However, we can't ignore the fact that they haven't acted much like allies. I suggest that we set up a temporary facility on the flight deck mid-bay. We could put sleeping pads on the deck and put in a couple of portable latrines. Engineering could put up a temporary forcefield perimeter and I'm sure that our Rapid Response Teams will be more than willing to supply security. What do you think, sir?"
Lancer, its great to have you aboard. As per JALU3's implication, you could take over the personna of Lt Lor, a 'male' Andorian (see Avatar I and II novels). Or you could make up your own character. Its certainly up to you. Lor is a PC in a Vanguard campaign played here in Baton Rouge, LA, USA by a gent named Loran Conrad. I borrowed him for the role playing aspects of the last scenario. I don't have his character sheet handy at the moment. He might even be interested in playing :) but this doesn't keep you from making up any character you like. We are using the LUGTrek rules for characters, as they dovetail with Space Dock's rules.
We could also use a good Engineer to handle some of the repair and maintenance problems we now face. We also need a CMO- a person who's resources are particularly strained with radiation, decompression, and plasma burn victims.
I don't know where we want to cut off participation in this game, but we certainly have openings for more than just fighter pilots!
We've just managed to exceed the original message count of the old Akira vs D'Deridex thread! And we haven't even started to play yet (much)
I suggest we open a new thread when we start playing.
USS Vanguard's bridge
Capt. Ronaldo Marques, with a sad expression in his face, talk to his XO:
"It's not a question of regulations, Shannon... rescue the survivors is our moral duty as human beings... Life, even the enemy's life, is sacred... The respect for life always comes first..."
The captain makes a pause. He seem to dig something from his memories... the painful past... and whispers:
"Even the Jem'Hadar's life..."
His eyes reflect some anger after this... some fear... And recovering himself he concludes:
"Execute your plan, Cmdr. Powers. And tell all the ships to use their sensors to help us locate as much of the survivors as possible. We'll take all precautions but I don't want the romulans treated like enemies... At least, not for now... Take the wounded to the sickbay and heal them as if they were starfleet officers.
And Cmdr... schedule a meeting with the command staff to discuss our situation... We have many people wounded and scared..... and a lot of work to do... "
However, I've only recieved one Email from you all, the CAPTs . . . and IMHO that character is STACKED!!!
I told you people, the man was "designed" to be a legend! :D
My first impression was exactly like yours, JALU. But then I went back to the TNG Core Rulebook and read the Contact advantage again. If I understood well, it's like the character have someone who knows his name, knows who he is, know one thing or two about him, but isn't his friend. And the contacts weren't changed.
What do you think Narrator? Have I to rebuild the man? Just tell me and I'll do it. :D
Thanks for your reply on my character, JALU. Your opinion is very appreciated!
See ya
1 Xp to the CO and the XO for excellent roleplaying. ;)
USS Vanguard's bridge...
Powers listens carefully to the captain and responds...
"Yes sir, we'll get started right away. Sensors indicate anywhere from 50 to 60 survivors. Not too many considering the size of that ship. We also need to see about retrieving Sidewinder, she seems to be the only lost fighter worth recovering. I expect Cmdr Lipumano and Lt Lor to be aboard shortly, I'll set up a conference as soon as everyone's ready."
She leans in closer, making their conversation more private...
"Sir, with all due respect, I appreciate your point, but they've shown us nothing but deceipt. I don't trust them one centimeter. We'll treat them humanely, but there needs to be a Security guard wherever there's a Romulan. There's something else, sir- there needs to be a memorial service. We've lost a lot of good people. I presume you'll wish to preside?"
Thanks for the XP! I am really enjoying this!
Excellent! that's the true feel of Star Trek!
