News about Star Trek Worlds

Just got this email from Decipher and the Fanclub about the Star Trek worlds book:


We apologize for the delay in responding to your inquiry. Here's the
information you requested...



An outside company bought the license from us to publish ST RPG Worlds.
Therefore, we have no date yet for when it might be released. If you
would like to cancel your order, we'd be happy to oblige. You have not
yet been charged for this item, as we do not process charges until our
products ship out. However, if you chose to leave your order open, we
will ship out Worlds as soon as it arrives and charge your account at
that time. Please let us know which you'd prefer.

As far as the website, we are working on optimizing for special
features. Just keep checking...

Anybody else receive this e-mail ? This sounds bogus. After the Franz Joesph / Star Fleet Technical Manual mistake, Paramount likely wouldn't allow any of their licensees to reassign rights to a third-party.

Odd wording. I could suspect they were using an external house to publish and make the the book, since they don't havwe the staff to do it.. but actually have the liscence.. they don't have the right to sell the liscence from paramount. From the implications the product is still from them, so i suspect it's that they simply bought the liscence to make them books, rather than the RPG franchise from them.

Hmmmm... outside source. Is not Decipher having Mongoose publish a game based on one of their card games?

If this is true, could they have gotten the Trek license as well? Then again this has been discussed in another thread but if this e-mail Silverstreak is kosher (which it could very much be. I do not think he is lying at all) then Mongoose would be the heavy favorite as the new publisher.
(Speculation) The irony is this: if Mongoose is the new outside source game publisher for Star Trek now they are also doing Babylon 5. Where is the irony? JMS, the creator of Babylon 5, is trying to get fan support to get his proposed Star Trek series out there. Just weird.

Matt Sprange at Mongoose has already gone on the record stating that Mongoose does not have access to the Trek license. Mongoose is doing the WARS RPG for Decipher. Officially, that's all we know.

Matt could have been pulling a fast one on everyone, but I really don't know.

I received the same exact email today. what the hell is going on with the product line? I am thoroughly disgusted. They make it seem that the line returning to us, while isn't imminent, is close at hand, and I get this response. Decipher never ceases to amDear Customer -

I received the exact same thing and my feelings on the matter can be pretty much summed up as this:

Decipher has lost my business, my time, and my concern. If anything, they have truly pushed my business away from them and I will actively encourage my gaming store to no longer sell their product.

This has gone on far too long and I am tired of waiting for something based on promises of little or no substance.

To Don Mappin and those that truly enjoy CODA system and have actively made efforts to keep the game alive, You have my full support. At least you guys are honest.

Decipher can go out of business.

Thank you for understanding the difference between the authors and designers who worked hard on a product they enjoyed and cared about versus a publisher that, frankly, shows a shocking lack of respect for their customers.

Well, Decipher has lost me a customer. The Star Trek RPG was the only product line of theirs I was interested in. I guess it is as Ron Moore has said: Star Trek really is going back into the hands of the fans.

Well it is now, for the forseeable future!

Thank god I still have all the info from my LUG's stuff.

At least it was much more detailed.

It's a shame really, I like the Coda stuff.
