I'm still here but not playing LOTR RPG at the moment. 99% of my fellow gamers won't play a 'dead' game.
I'm still left... been playing all summer, made a break, and after the seson hollydays, i will begin playing a new chronicle: The Chronicles of Balin's Colony (I hope to make something interesting, using the Moria sourcebook, of course).
And another one of my frinds wil start the Triumph of the Witch-King campaign.
Alive and kicking here
Dead game ... hell no as long as we have hall of fire and my ranting and raving we are not dead yet! Keep the faith... enjoy the extended edition DVD rotk and merry xmas to you all... may visions of lembas bread dance in your head.

I've been working for a few months now on converting all the stats from an old ICE adventure module (Dark Mage of Rhudaur) to the CODA system (NPCs, monsters, magic and all). I'm just reaching the ready point and I have two separate parties of about 5 people who are waiting with bated breath to play these babies out.... I like CODA/Decipher, wish they had play tested more, wished they had negotiated better rights for the game, wish they intended to support the RPG better (instead of just the freakin card game - which is an easy win - take the pictures from the movie - slap some rules on it... presto you have a game.... rpg's require more writing then they are used to). Onward..... Hall of Fire Rocks btw.... and i wish we knew for sure if Games Workshop is getting the license... etc....
Yep, LOTR gaming still going strong here. I finished a massive campaign six months ago set during the war of the Elves and Sauron in the Second Age and have followed that up with a series of mini-campaigns set in the two centuries after that. That set the stage for the launch of the next big campaign, which I'm calling "The Dark Years", centered around the corruption of Númenor.
Unfortunately, player interest seems to have waned, so I'll try to sell another idea to another group: they´ll play Northmen who will help Gondor defeat the Wainriders.
If that fails too, I´ll have to resort to narrating solo games to my GF, as I have done in the past months :)
Well I took stock f how much tolkien I own. Of course the required LOTR Books, Simillirion (SP), Hobbit, The whole History of middle earth series I-XII, the ME atlas, Language book of ME (excellant resource if I may say so), LOTR strategy battle game for : FOTR,TTT,ROTK , SF and BPF. About 300 GW figures, The three movies art books. The Movies (platinum edition) as well. Then comes the RPG... all the books (that made it to press) the dreaded narrator's screen and all the Hall of fire downloads.
Hummm cost.... $1700......experience and joy....priceless.
I hope all of you out there are able to not only enjoy christmas with your loved ones and friends. watch out for the hobbits drinking under the tree.

I think that $1700 is a very conservative estimate. I dread to think how many £££s I've spent on my stuff, especially with over 500 GW minis!Quote:

This may be the wrong place to pop in and if so I apologize, citing the first amendment in the newbie bill of rights: The right to shameless ignorance. I am a veteran roleplayer of FASA, DND, Star Wars, and even robotech, yet I prefer the rule system presented in this game. I am looking for a game in southern california in san bernardino or LA county preferrably near ontario airport. If any of you know of or are participating in a game in that area I would greatly appreciate any help you may provide. Thank you for your attention.
LOL..send in the ents...
I have a game still up and running, actually one of my players just went out and bought the CODA ST RPG because we all like the system so much.
Our chronicle is taking place in the 4th age, the wizards Pallando and Alatar have re-appeared as the black wizards, and have found an item from the first age, created by Morgoth, that could have dire consequences for Middle Earth.
Our next chronicle is planned to be a third age chronicle during the downfall of the northern kingdom, and the height of the witch king of Angmar's dominance, the PC's will all be hobbit archers sent to aid the northern kings after the war drifts too close to the Shire.
Cheers,
Silent Dusty
I'm still around, along with most of my gaming group (one is on his way to the big sandbox).
In fact, my nephew is trying his hand at Narrator. He and I have cooked up an idea centered around following a broken Ring of Power throughout the Second and Third Ages. We will each take turns running a chronicle searching for one or both halves of this ring--The Ring of Fate.
At the moment, he is running an adventure that is set during the War of Sauron and the Elves. My character is a Noldor Weapon/Armorsmith entrusted with taking the Three to the High-King and safeguarding one half of the the Ring of Fate--the Ring of Life. We still haven't discovered what happened to the other half, the Ring of Death, but have a suspicion it has something to do with a certain assassin that has been trailing us since we escaped from Ost-in-Edhil.
Happy gaming

I too am still around, having recently begun running a new chronicle with two players. I was thinking I may have to come up with a bunch of new info and such, but with the latest announcement by Decipher, I'm back to looking forward to new books. :)
Tom
Still around, still reading Hall of Fire, still popping in to read the forums now and again. I will get around to running a LOTR game eventually. Whether or not the line is "dead" doesn't really matter to me. Our group often plays games using supposedly "dead" systems: Cyberpunk 2020, Usagi Yojimbo, Marvel Superheroes, Classic Traveller, Marvel Universe RPG, original World of Darkness.Quote:

But anyway, it would seem that it's not "dead" anyway :D
What is this latest announcement?Quote:

Yes, I posted this in haste - the next forum I went on (Decipher's) had the details!
It is my hope that when i return to be able to actively engage more into the LOTR RPG community. I really enjoy the game and the story weaving that occurs. I hope to see more replies in the future.
Yup, still here.
Alive and well. I refuse to give up on CODA.
Still around...though I lurk mostly. Im waiting for a few of the new sourcebooks before kicking off my 1st Age campaign.
There are more than a few of us die-hard LotR RPG fans. I happen to have it on very good authority that Decipher, or someone working with Decipher, will see to it that the LotR RPG is more represented at conventions. I suspect this individual will be looking for people to run games at various locations. I know Gen Con has been taken care of.
:) Still Love the game and the Coda System. I think its one of the best ones out there. It will only be a "dead" system when we don't play it anymore. We have some very talented players out there and so I'm sure that we can keep the Coda system alive!!!
well I am more than delighted to see that things are moving again!
Sandy ... where i am at now, best wishes to all.

Hmm...yeah, I'm stilll here; still kicking! :D
I'm currently working on incorporating the "Triumph of the Witch-King" chronicle into my 'normal' 4th age one. Being a Trek fan, my initial thing was "Time-travel!" - then my brain reconnected!
I'm thinking of doing a kind of 'flashback' campaign, where the current PCs will be the descendants of the ones in the TotWK. Except the Elf - his original 0-advancement sheet is around, he can go back and play "himself" at a young age!
*sigh* I'm getting another headache...but I can't let all the crunchy stuff in Hall of Fire go to waste! :D

Speaking of the Hall of Fire, I have to get started or this month's upcoming issue won't be released.
Tomcat
Tomcat,
Brilliant! Thanks a bunch! I've just signed up to your forums, as well (yeah, yeah - my friends call me a 'forum-whore'! :D ), so expect to see me pop in to say hello from time to time.
I've downloaded the stuff you have on the site and will have a read thru it when I'm not at work - it looks great at first blush!
BTW, where did you get those PDF character sheets? I'm using some pretty clunky Excel ones at the moment (GandalfofBorg's are too complex to run efficiently on my machine), but I really liked the look of the ones you have. I'm assuming they're "forms" in their original configuration? As in, you can enter the data directly into them?
Looking forward to reading your chronicle!
Cheers,
Hey Aldaron, here is my LOTR Form in it Microsoft Word Format. You can also download the PDF from the Hall of Fire webiste under Miscellaneous. Only this version allows you to enter the data, problem is you have to be careful as to not erase something that might be important and you would also need the fonts I used to have it appear the same.
Anyway, it is here for your taking. If you want to know the fonts used, it would be Tolkien and Mordred - they are free out on the web... somewhere.
I approved your joining our forum, understand that only players may post in the actual games but you are welcome to post in the General Discussion if you wish and read as much as you'd like. If you are ever invited in to a game, that game will be opened for you.
Tomcat - brilliant again! Those sheets are spot-on. Print it to Distiller and it looks terrific. Word may not do the calculations the way Excel does, but they're really not that complicated! :)
I'm still toying with how to incorporate TotWK into my campaign. The flashback idea has its merits, but I'm still wondering about tweaking it to fit with my 4th age campaign.
We're set around Fourth Age 20, and are dealing with Gondor extending its hand north across Eriador, trying to bring the Dunlendings in under its sway. I was thinking that TotWK could be modified with the following changes - let me know what you think:
The Witch-King is replaced by Carangul (we kept him from the original games)
The Angmarians can be replaced by Rhudaur "hordes" and northern Orcs flocking to Carangul's banner.
Carangul could have unleashed the plague, or it could be a final 'contingency' revenge thing of either Sauron or Saruman, that started off small, but has gradually gotten bigger.
With Elrond gone from Rivendell, I can perhaps use Elrohir or another Elf as a healer...in a way it's even better: maybe they think Elrond is still there..."Nope! Sorry buddy! You gotta go get this plant, 'cos Elrond's in Aman these days!" :D
The long period of war could well be the last 20 years of resettlement as Gondorians go north, Breelanders and the like move south, with lots of clashes with Dunlendings and Orcs working with Carangul.
The "central character" (Celephain's son) could be the son of the fellow who has been given authority over Tharbad by King Elessar: "Go and rebuild Tharbad, make it a livable city again and you will be its Lord" - perhaps as a reward for service during the War of the RIng (you could even make it Beregond or someone "famous" if you really wanted).
Any other ideas? Like I said, I'm still toying with the "flashback" campaign, but I'm worried it will go for too long and the players will forget their "original" characters - or at least lose interest, and I love doing 4th Age stuff! But I wanna do Triumph of the Witch-King as well! Waaa!
Dammit, Tomcat - why'd you have to publish such a fantastic chronicle! :D
To much Praise Aldaron, I am not worthy! :D But thank you, I am sure I speak for all who contribute their time and creativity to these games that the appreciation is... appreciated!
Anyway, about your overlay of your story with the TotWK... I think it really works. It sounds as if you have covered all of the main plot lines with a seamless story line of your own and I do not have any thing to suggest. I understand completely why you would not want to do the flashback thing because that can get to many stories going at once and as a Narrator, that can be hell.
About the sheets, I hope you found the fonts necessary because it makes the sheet look right and format correctly to the pages.
Well, nuff said for the moment. Let me know if you need any other info for the chronicle.
Tomcat
I'm still here as well. I am planing on starting up a new chronical as soon as all of my player schedules settle down some. From the anticapation of my players coda does not feel dead.
