Loved it. Period.
I've never given a "10" in any of these polls, or to any episode of any Trek since "Trials & Tribbleations."
Until now. This episode was so freakin' cool, I can't tell you!
i have to say that i thouroughly enjoyed the mirror universe episodes of enterprise. it would be awesome if there were a sourcebook to use in my game. heck i might even have an exclusively mirror campaign!
and does anyone know where to get one of those badass mirror universe enterprise uniform jackets?
ray
I give it a 10, too. Great episode.
Of course, the gamer geek in me has to point out the canon establishment of aft-firing torpedoes and phasers on the Constitution-class...
I was pretty jazzed about that, actually. I love the notion of the Connie having some teeth.
Is it just me, or was the Gorn just a phenomenal piece of work? It's completely changed the way I think of them....
Someone on the LiveJournal Star Trek community noted this:
After broadcatching the recent episode of Enterprise, "In a Mirror, Darkly Part 2" I was just rewatching it. I got to the scene where Hoshi and Archer are looking at their historical profiles. We only see the screen on each for a moment, but I noticed that there is real information written there. Thought I'd share with those who didn't catch it and can't download the episode.
Hoshi Sato
Rank at retirement: Lieutenant Commander
Former Assisgnment: Communications and Protocols officer, Enterprise NX-01.
Captain Archer's is a little more interesting.
Jonathon Archer
Rank at retirement: Admiral, Chief of Staff, Starfleet Command
Former assignments:
Commanding officer, Enterprise NX-01, 2150-2160
Ambassador to Andoria, 2169-2175
Federation Councilman, 2175-2183
President, UFP, 2184-2192 (Two terms!)
Well, well. Seems our little captain has quite a future ahead of him. :D
Cool. :)
Wow, that was phenomenal! I gave it another 10. These were two of the best episodes of the entire franchise. :D
And, the twist at the end...very cool (although, I did see it coming when the camera panned down). It's dangerous at the top. ;)
BC, I guess we need to rework the 2267 stats for the Constitution class (aft phasers, aft torpedoes)... :) That was too sweet. Now I want a TOS-era movie or series. :D
I'll say this again: Paramount needs to make Manny Coto the head of the franchise. He has the right vision and attitude to bring Trek back to prominence.
And, PG, the Gorn was exactly as I envisioned them to be drawn up. That was a nice sneak peek at the race.
I said the same thing last week!Quote:

Slarr was soo cool. They made him just how i've always wanted to see a gorn; powerful, clever, deadly. And not just 'walking slowly behind Kirk waiting to get a chestful of diamonds'. I only wish he had more screen time. (and i was glad they didnt do the "he's a reptile; lower the temp to freezing' bit; the grav plating bit was real clever, but it would have been cool to have them try 10 g's and have him still coming for Archer.
Alt. Hoshi ( or 'slutty Hoshi' as my friends call her) must realize that she's gonna have to live on that ship; the minute she's off it she's dead and some one else is emperor.
Oh, and by erasing the Defiant's logs, (not sure where 'Tholian Web' and the first appearance of the MU are in seasons), but doesnt she ensure the eventual downfall of the Empire?
I liked this episode too. Gave it a 9; they were both very fun.
it was two good shows . The samething always happens , a good story on the bordering of becoming a great one . " Shot we have seven minutes of airtime leave . The writers tpyed out a quick ending " This story arc needed to three or four parts . Then it may be the evil genes taking over .
Considering the abstractness of the Starships construction system, we can say that the Connie always had the aft banks of weapons. But as to making more TOS related ships, I'd like to give a crack at it.
As to the episode, it was a blast and this is the sort of fun Enterprise should have been to begin with.
Give it a 10. Kudos to Manny Coto for good work.
in the words of eric cartman: "kickass!"Quote:

I loved the first part start to finish. liked the effects and most of the plot of the second part...HOWEVER....I think they tanked the ending on a MAJOR point. If the Mirror universe captured TOS era tech in the "Enterprise" era, why don't they have at least TNG era tech when Kirk encounters them? After all they would have had the best the Federation could produce a hundred years before our Federation would have had the same level of technology. I know reverse engineering something as complex as the Defiant would take time, but I don't buy it taking that bloody long. For the episode to have worked, the Defiant should have been destroyed at the end.
Easy, assume a few years to recreate the Defiant, then assume a pirate/corruption regime that couldn't form a coherent research body worth crap. I mean, we're not exactly talking about a Pell-Grant-Heavy galaxy here. I could easily see them taking two generations to just replicate the Defiant (and get it a generation early), but then just stangnating as all the infighting, back-stabbing, etc, continues.Quote:

The ending just tripped my personal "willing suspension of disbelief" alarm.
Again, to make the 1701 in the alternate universe, the Defiant herself had to be given up, right? Or at least her secrets 'transmitted out'. Let's assume a few years then.Quote:

Remember, it took the Soviets a decade to create an atomic bomb after the United States used it, even though they had the bulk of German reserach on the subject.
Now, couple that with the obvious back-stabbing (literal) in getting ahead, and that the tech specifications of the Defiant would be a HUGE boon to a paranoid and jealous scientific/military leader.
"Sorry, Ceaser, but the launching of the USS Baton Rouge ended in failure as the ship was destroyed by an anti-matter explosion in the warp drive. We suspect sabotage , and the team responsible is being detained."
Suddenly, 55 years from the finding of the Defiant to the construction of the USS Constitution for the good of the Empire isn't too much of a stretch.
The coup only succeeds because of the Defiant. Take it out of service to dismantle and reverse engineer and Sato's reign will be very short. Reverse engineer the Defiant while she is still in service can take several decades, but it will eventually be done.
It's nice to see there are some explanations that plausibly keep the canon timeline intact without straining believabilty too far. I however, will continue to maintain that, for me the second part wasn't as good as the first part because of the ending.
According to an interview with Coto, if Enterprise were given a fifth season there would definitly be another Mirror arc. :(
One thing that sprang to mind was that Alt-Hoshi is going to be a virtual prisoner on the Defiant; The minute she steps off it every faction is going to try and take her out, and her only claim to power is the ability to blast everyone back to the stone age....again.
Not that life on a Starship is bad, but the Imperial Palace is so pretty this time of year.
I think Coto pays a little "too" much homage to TOS. Doing more than 1 mirror episode would seriously "water-down" the effect.
Loved both MU episodes. They, and Manny Coto are the proof that I'm right about always give Trek at least three seasons to get it's feet under it and moving. However, we won't have that now.... :(
I think one or two MU episodes a season would have been ok. DS9 pulled it off ok I think.
I missed the orion episode, but am definitely looking forward to the upcoming last episodes which will be amazing if they keep the pace of these previous couple.
I like to think of the Defiant as having been 'upgunned' because it was facing duty around the Tholian space... :)
Oh, and the Gorn look rocked! :D
Tom
This episode is a good follow-up, however I can't bring myself to give it a 10 or a 9. 8 is the best I can give it.
I guess I was put off by the inclusion of "Archer II," his anti-conscience(?). Is it really necessary?
The Gorn Slar is pretty cool.
I agree but the UBER geek in me could say that perhaps the Defiant was a special version of the Constitution, maybe a sub-class prototype, armed with aft-firing weaponery.Quote:

Meh. It was a 2-parter story. Had there been a fifth season, he would have explored MU again.Quote:

Sure it could be overdone - but Manny has certianly earned my trust.
I can't wait to see what project he has in store next now that Trek is in hibernation...
