It's getting closer. I've shown you the cover; here's a preview of a typical page in the layout. I'd've done a two-page spread, but the fluff text isn't up to my liking just yet for this one.

Looking mighty fine !
Looking forward to it, thanks for all the work it no doubt is & sharing
This is going to be wonderful, Patrick. I remember when that book was just about the only piece of Star Trek merchandise I had (other than Mego figures). I would spend hours paging through it over and over again, imagining what else could happen in the Star Trek universe (pre TMP!). You're really capturing it with what I've seen so far.
Now gimme my Dreadnought! :D
That reminds me. I always wanted to set an adventure in the Fleet HQ station as seen in SFTM. I always wondered what was in those "hidden caves"...
Wow, it looks good so far.
I can't wait to see it finished.
Looks awesome!
Cool.
Very nice. I like a simple clean layout. Never was much for the LCARS style stuff, just as a personal thing.
Awesome! Can't wait to see more.
Very cool, I'm looking forward to seeing the final product!
Okay, I've got all my art, I've got my ship stats (mostly), and I've got some optional rules and systems in playtest. Basic layout is done; once I get all the fluff text laid out, the ships will be done.
So, I'm setting a release date (mostly because, if I don't, I'll keep finding ways to dither and fritter the hours away; with a deadline, I've got to get it done). It's still a few weeks away, but it's a date a lot of us are looking forward to, anyway.
Starships of the Star Fleet Technical Manual will release on 8 May 2009, to coincide with and honor the upcoming Star Trek film.
Woot.
Hmm, you know, I should go dig around my shed, because I swear I've got an actual physical copy of the original SF tech manual lying around there.
It's been reprinted fairly recently; I saw a copy or two on the shelves at a local Hastings not too long ago. If, you know, you can't find the one you've already got.... (Mine's in the living room, where I'm busy with some of the other stuff I'm working on. :))
Hmm, didn't know it had been reprinted so often. I'm semi-attached to my copy though, I got it at one of only 2 Star Trek conventions I went to as a teenager. Both Shatner and Takei were there, which was fairly cool. Lol, I remember waiting in line to get an autograph from one of them, but couldn't be bothered when I saw 50+ people already ahead of me.
Not all that often, really; that was the first time I'd seen it on the shelves in several years. I can understand being attached to a copy, though; I was very attached to my first copy of the book, up until the moment it died. I still kinda miss it, to be honest.
Hmm,
One of my local gaming shops has one of the old TMs (the black "notebook" format) on the shelf. Maybe I should pick it up and try to sell it here while everyone is being nostalgic? ;)
Not that I'm any better, I still miss my MEGO playset.
Amen to that ! I wish I still had that too, had the playset, Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Scotty, Uhura & the Klingon.Quote:

Lots of good times for a little kid !!!
My gift to you guys on my birthday. I should so be working on paying projects right now, but I wanted to play a bit today, so I did. Enjoy.
Nice, thank you.
Giving away gifts to your friends on your very own birthday makes you a Hobbit, you know ;)
Didn't think you were accusing me of anything; I seem to have forgotten a smiley in there somewhere....
Happy belated birthday! Thanks for the profile, I really dig what you've done with the layout. Really brings me back. I have marked my calendar for 5/8.
Again, thanks for everything. My series is going strong and I have you and all the others on the forum for the help I needed to get started. I cannot wait to start using this new resource.
Thanks and I hope your birthday was a good one.
AWESOME work! Look forward to the completed book. :)
Aye, chock full of ST goodness. :)
I should know better than to make plans with a pregnant wife and a three year old.
Real life has gotten in the way, and I don't think that there's any way I'm going to make the 5/8 release date I'd planned for Starships of the Star Fleet Technical Manual. It's close, but the outside world has managed to get in the way a lot lately, so it's going to be another week or so, from the looks of things.
Sorry to let you guys down, but life's been crazy. You'll all be the first to know once it's actually out.
Don't make haste!
We'll be really happy once you release it. A few more days or even weeks won't change that.
Take your time, Patrick! Again thanks for all your efforts!
I agree with Cut and Sanmateo.
I think we'd all rather wait a bit, and get a good supplement, than have something put together in a rush that isn't as good (and needs to be reworked later).
Besides, if the gaming companies miss release dates, why can't you? :D
Compared to Decipher, you're still moving at warp speed. :p:D
How's this coming along?
Took a little time off for fatherhood, and realized once my cover art came back that I had to rework my presentation a little bit to keep up. I'm back at work revising the fluff (not up to my standards in some places), and should have a proof copy of the TOS section to some of my proofreaders/playtesters sometime this weekend. The TMP section should be ready not too long after that, but I'm not rushing things because, well, I've got a three-year-old and a six-week-old to keep up with.
Thanks for asking, though; I should be better about updating things.
Cool. Can't wait. The previews you posted so far have been great.
Wait til you see the final product. The cover I've got now is ten times cooler than the one I put together way back when.
New cover sucks. ;)
I can vouch for the fact that Patrick truly has been working on this bit by bit, squeezing stuff into the few spare moments in real life. I get emails at the oddest hours of night and morning sometimes. Personally, I don't know how he does it. I've only been raising a chihuahua puppy for the past few weeks and I can barely think at times!
It's looking might fine and, from what I've seen, it will be more than worth the wait.
And once it's done, we've got plans.... oh, yes...
Wow ! Very cool lookin ! :D
Glad you think so. I think I'm finally coming out of one of the worst bouts of writer's block I've had in a long, long time, so I might actually be getting myself back into this and getting the project finished...at long last.
Ohhhh... I eagerly await the finished result !
Say... on the subject of Starships and the like... has anyone done a CODA treatment of any starfighters ?
Our campaign does a lot with Marines, and fighter pilots in FASA. And I have to have something for Ronit Mair (our Bajoran fighter squad commander) to fly !
She's a beautiful lady, and we love her.
Personally, I think the fluff leans a little too much on the first movie, but it could just be me being too close to it. I'm just happy to be writing again; that damn block was starting to get to me.
The project's alive again, so don't give up on me.
