So long, and thanks for all the laughs. http://www.trekrpg.net/Board/ubb/frown.gif

LUGTrek isn't really dead. Not as long as we remember it.
I know how you feel, Mr Adams was the author who really inspired me to read in High School, I used HHGTTG as a sophomore English Project. He inspired me to write, including a crappy short story, maybe I'll dust it off and polish it as a tribute.
Most of all Douglas Adams taught me never to be ashamed of my intelligence, or my ignorance, as they are what carry us through life.
Sail on Mr Adams, you were one hoopy frood who really knew where his towel was.

What an insult to compare Douglas Adams to Peter David. http://www.trekrpg.net/Board/ubb/eek.gifQuote:

Douglas Adams’ body of work crushes Peter David on his best day.
So long Mr. Adams, and thanks for all the fish.

Farewell, Mr Adams (I don't presume to call him by his frst name, although he probably wouldn't have cared).
I guess the pains in the diodes down your left side are now gone.
Your towel is in your bag next to the front door (but you already knew that, didn't you?).
Enjoy your meals in The Restaurant at the End of the Universe, and have a Pan-Galactic Gargle-Blaster on me. http://www.trekrpg.net/Board/ubb/smile.gif

A couple of comments to throw in times of stress to that person who's really annoying you...
"Oohhh. Did I just step on your itty-bitty ego?"
"How many times do I have to flush before you go away?"
I'll bet he finally found that question he'd been looking for.
It's funny -- you never expect something like this to affect you. "Oh," you say to yourself, "He's a celebrity I never met. When he dies, it'll be a loss to the world, but I don't think it'll hit me all that hard."
Then it happens, and you find yourself on the phone with your GF, crying like a baby, and trying to explain why.
So long, Mr. Adams. You are already missed.

You are lucky, me I've only got 14.5 years left.Quote:

It's sad, but it reminds us to cherish each and every day of our lifes. Something I'm sure Mr. Adams would have liked.

We could really use a "bawling like a baby" emoticon on this system for days like this.
"There is a theory which states that if anyone ever figures out what the universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Oh damn. This probably means my relapse will have a depression -er- I mean this probably means my depression will have a relapse.
Hmm... no sig this time http://www.trekrpg.net/Board/ubb/frown.gif
Man...
I remember when I read my first Douglas Adams novel. I was 13 and living in San Diego. It was The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. It was so off the wall I nearly peed myself laughing and that was only while reading the first chapter. His style of telling a story, leaping to a tangent, and then dropping right back to the story was unique and entertaining.
Thank you Mr. Adams and rest in peace.
I guess a lot of you colonial types never got to hear the radio series (ca. 1978)? The original and best version of the Guide...
And I was still holding out for another Dirk Gently novel.
Those of you who recognise my sig line, will know I was a fan - to paraphrase: "We will be late, as in the late Adamsdouglasadams - it's a threat, I was never much good at those..."
He will be sorely missed... still, rumour has it he's only spending a year dead for tax purposes...

The world, especially those of us who enjoy Science Fiction Comedy, will surely miss him. His work was amazing, and I was lucky enough to be around to watch it.
"Order Arms!"
"Present Arms."
Ironically enough, the Minor Planet Center announced the naming of asteroid 1998 CC2 as (18610) Arthurdent on the same day that Douglas Adams passed away.

Actually, those of us willing to listen to National Public Radio got to listen to it in some areas -- I heard it when I was in High School ('94-ish)

I too have experienced the joy that was the Hitchhiker's Guide Radio Programme...
My high school had/has a copy of the scripts, and my local library had the whole radio programme on cassette before some ignorant boob recorded country music over both sides of every tape. http://www.trekrpg.net/Board/ubb/frown.gif
The Hitchhiker's Guide was also my second experience with computer games, my first being Sierra's Cranston Manor...
Mr. Adams' passing deeply saddens me, his twisted, warped, philosophical sense of humor molding my own in unimaginable ways since I was ten years old...
Writers' deaths always hit me the hardest, because they are most intimate with us-- sharing their thoughts and feelings, making us laugh out loud, cry, shout triumphantly and what have you. The last time I shed copious tears over someone's death was the day I heard of Roger Zelazny's passing. I offer them freely tonight.
Mr. Adams, you were a truly hoopy frood, and I hold my towel aloft to you. The Ultimate Question is now in your hands and I'll be sure to ask you exactly what the Belgium it is when I see you, wherever you are.
(Flamestrike then goes on to mix himself a Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster and drink the rest of the room into a stupor)
Damn. Fine writer - I loved Hitchhikers and his Doctor Who scripts were amazing too. A shame the Shada episode never made it to the screen, even if Professor Urban Chronotis finally appeared in Dirk Gently (complete with his TARDIS!)

Still, as long as there's a legend on the Master Engineering Monitor of the Enterprise that reads "Infinite Improbability Drive", the magic's still there.

Those of us who mourn his passing can celebrate Towel Day this Friday ...
