Quark - "The more things change, the more they stay the same."
Dave, you'll find that in the Hit Location chart on page 115, under "The Bridge."
Of course, as Narrator, you can always toss in a few explodin' panels whenever you want, regardless of what the dang hit location table's tellin' ya... http://www.trekrpg.net/Board/ubb/smile.gif

Gotta love those exploding consoles. Almost a guaranteed death everytime especially if your the man with no name http://www.trekrpg.net/Board/ubb/wink.gif
I had a feedback loop for this when the shields were breached, when you rolled the extra damage either went to the underlaying system after the shot or the feedback when to someone's console in that system, damage was always severe.
Now every one say SIR SIG is a nasty Narrator 3 times quickly and it will never happen to you http://www.trekrpg.net/Board/ubb/wink.gif

Thanks Steve!
And Sir Sig, the word is not nasty, it's "Old School" http://www.trekrpg.net/Board/ubb/wink.gif
"Broken glass everywhere,
people p***ing on the stairs, y'know they just don't care
I can't take the smell, can't take the noise,
got no money to move out I guess I got no choice
Rats in the front room, roaches in the back..."
Oh! Sorry, Dave. Wrong "old school". http://www.trekrpg.net/Board/ubb/wink.gif
BTW, what kind of fees did you pay to trademark Exploding Consoles of Doom? Inquiring Ferengi want to know. http://www.trekrpg.net/Board/ubb/biggrin.gif

"No one controls me. I'm uncontrollable. The only one who can control me is me... and that's just barely possible!" -John Lennon
Exploding Consoles of Doom (TM) are a great way of reminding the PCs of their own mortality - especially if you damage one (or more) of them in a battle... http://www.trekrpg.net/Board/ubb/eek.gif

In spite of the cost of living, have you noticed how popular it remains?
But i have one question, Havn't Starfleet Engineers(TM) figured out the Fuse Yet?
>>>:-)

The fee? Well, I had the most wonderful talk with a fellow from the Department of Commerce and it seems that he's quite the ladies man and I'm quite the shutterbug. The fee was waived and his wife knows nothing.
Oh and fuses, Karq, are pieces of technology lost to the post nuclear holocaust http://www.trekrpg.net/Board/ubb/frown.gif
C'mon Karg! Everyone knows that fuses make for bad TV. http://www.trekrpg.net/Board/ubb/wink.gifQuote:

How about a circuit breaker, jeesh that would suck during a battle http://www.trekrpg.net/Board/ubb/wink.gif
"What we've tripped the breaker again, someone get down to main engineering and open the fuse box and reset them." http://www.trekrpg.net/Board/ubb/wink.gif

Great Dramatics though... Imagine the cliff hanger at the end of Best of Both Worlds Part 1...
Acting Captain Riker on the bridge of the Enterprise closing for range on Locutus's Cube.
"Fire at Will"...
The bridge goes black as th lights go out due to the tripped circuit breaker...
"...Bugger" A voice says in the darkness...

Dan.
"A couple of thoughts froma random mind!"
I think Fuse and Breaker are too non-treknical. Prehaps:
Fuse:
1)Expendable Energy Surge Disapation Linkage.
"Blade Fuse"
Handels surges in tricorders, hand-phasers, positronic brains, and the wonder-widget-of-the-week and such.
2)Ablative Surge Diverter Module.
"Screw-in Fuse"
Designed for larger loads, such as computer consoles and other small scale energy systems.
3)Large-Scale Exponential Power Excursion Diffuser Array.
"Tube-Fuse"
Handels power-surges in warp-drives, phaser banks, Nav-deflectors, Shield Arrays, Anti-Matter Containment Pods, and the Holodeck.
Breakers:
1)Resetable Surge Isolation Switch
2)Automatic Drama-Inducing Energy Control Module Type II
And so on....

Somehow, Dan, I think Riker pulling out a Zippo may have detrimental effect to the overall ambiance...
Yea i know, but i couldn't help the nit pick.

Why don't they wear seatbelts? (Those who are sitting down)

Because seatbelts don't look cool and high-tech on the screen.Quote:

You could posit, perhaps, that the chairs they sit in have special mini-IDFs that keep them from falling out when the ship rocks under the force of some attack or phenomena. They might even have their own little power sources so they don't stop working when the ship loses power. In effect, a high-tech seatbelt -- and nothing uncool to annoy the eyes. http://www.trekrpg.net/Board/ubb/smile.gif

As for the fuses- Check out the hysterical treatment of fuses in Harry Harrison's Bill The Galactic Hero. Huge man-sized fuses that have crew called "fuse-tenders" just waiting in the middle of a battle to manhandle the monsters out of their clips and replace them with new ones so the main blasters can keep firing. Hilarious send-up and pre-Trek I believe.

"The best diplomat I know is a fully charged phaser bank" -Montgomery Scott
They did at one point have seat restraints - see TMP & TWoK. Apparently, though, when they refit the bridge for TVH & TFF, they got rid of the restraints - not cool enough, apparently.

This is our last, best hope for peace? We are so screwed.
Wold you REALLY want to be strapped to what amounts to an grenade? http://www.trekrpg.net/Board/ubb/smile.gif
How about mini force or containment fields that popup around the panel like an airbag. They would be activated by the surge in power and possibly be powered by the extra power or work off their own isolated power cells. They would also be good vs. fires as they would contain the fire and prevent more oxygen from getting to the fire, in essence killing the fire. As a plot device, imagine a malfunction where the field or fields go up, so the crew cannot get to the panels – “We’re heading for what??? And how long is that power cell going to last? Find away to drain that cell quick!”
Could also be used as a security lockout.

All very good, logical, well-reasoned uses of technology...........which is why, of course, they won't ever get used.
Besides, I LIKE seeing ensign slob fly across the screen!! :-P
